'Suggestivism' book signing @ SDCC 2011

The Hi-Fructose booth was on fire during SDCC 2011 as they played host to so many signings and releases... in fact too many for me to cover, but I was able to make it out for the 'Suggestivism' book signing that featured a panel of artists including Ron English, Skinner, Bob Dob, and Tara McPherson. Each one of these artists signed and sketched in each one of the books that was purchased at the convention, which by the way just flipping through this book blew my mind... and is a must have (pick it up HERE)! Monstrehero & UhOh Toys @ SDCC 2011

Sean of Monstrehero and Aaron of UhOh Toys took over the 'Global Figure Symposium' booth last Saturday, and they brought a whole bunch of resin to showcase. There were even new figures in the mix from both parties... all of which are looking really clean! It's really cool to see the two artists styles on one table as the bright resin colors really make your eyes jump around to each figure... and the best part about all the pieces, they are all hand-made! Nice showing fellas... and I am sure that the remaining items from the con will be up in their respective webstores really soon, so keep a watch! Hit the jump for more photos.

Brandi Milne "Bunny.Go.Ride" signing @ SDCC 2011

On top of their release with Nathan Hamill for SDCC, 3DRetro also teamed up with fine artist Brandi Milne to release her very first vinyl figure titled "Bunny.Go.Ride"... which by the way is a true art toy in ever sense of the word... or maybe just a small vinyl sculpture since there is no articulation, in any case the piece turned out amazing and Brandi came out last Saturday to help promote the release of this with a signing at the October Toys booth. Once I arrived there, a line had already formed and tons of her fans were anxious to meet her and to get their piece signed, and Brandi was kind enough to do so for every single one of them! Hit the jump for many more pictures from the event.

MAD signing and release of his SDCC exclusive 8" Kidrobot "Zombie Robber" Dunny

Jeremy Madl aka MAD made a quick trip out to San Diego to help promote the release of his SDCC exclusive 8" Kidrobot "Zombie Robber" Dunny! As soon as the convention hall opened at 9am tons flocked to the Kidrobot booth to get a wrist strap for the queue in line... which by the way was not going down until 1pm later that day. Once that time hit people were lined up with Dunny in hand and Jeremy took the time to sign each and every one of them as well as chop it up with everyone that came out to support him. This figure turned out so sick, the matte black on glossy black is a killer combo and once you throw in a little neon green... it's all over, all those colors contrast each other so well, and Kidrobot did a fantastic job on the production of these... really stoked to have one in my collection, and it's my first 8" Dunny purchase in almost 4 years! hit the jump for more photos!

On display at DKE's booth during SDCC 2011 - New prototype pieces from Cherry Vinyl

What do you get when you match together the forces know as Pretty in Plastic and Lulubell Toys... you get Cherry Vinyl... and that is what was on display for the first time at SDCC 2011, and boy I gotta say that I am pumped for this! These two companies are becoming juggernauts in the designer toy scene on their own and to see them matched up... it's a match made in heaven, and after seeing the amazing prototypes on display during SDCC you would understand why.

They have teamed up with artists such as Nathan Jurevicius to release that rad looking owl figure, as well as with Becky and Frank of 'Tiny Kitten Teeth' to release "Egglue the Giraffe", as well as with Femke to release 'Le Chat'... some small but highly detailed pieces! Look for the first version of 'Le Chat' to drop this fall from this new company!

Alex Pardee signing @ SDCC 2011

So... it's crazy how much attention that Alex Pardee has been getting ever since his Sucker Punch fame and his amazing "Vertigo" art show... well you would think that would mellow out a little... wrong!!!! It's going super strong and the line waiting to see this man at SDCC proved it! Alex was promoting his new "Awful / Resilient" book and along with that he was sketching and chatting it up with all of his fans. One great thing about Alex is that even though he has been blessed with this recent fame he has kept very grounded... a humble artist that's for sure. Tracy Tubera's gun show... err, signing and release of his "Radiclaw" Spiki @ SDCC

Well, he was in his tank top and is always talking about his"guns" on twitter, so I felt the headline to be very fitting as Kuso Vinyl hosted Tracy Tubera as he released a new Spiki Chiisai figure dubbed "RADICLAW X Spiki". The color scheme of this particular figure is based on the famous character Wolverine from Marvel... and if you know anything about Tracy, he is a sucker for comics! This was limited to only 100 pieces and it retailed for just $15 via Kuso's booth and Tracy doodle and sketched for all those that came by. The figure itself is super cleanly produced and Tracy did a really great job at using the form to his advantage while creating this fun character. Hit the jump for more pics from the signing.

Six New Customs from Daniel Yu

Artist and Sculptor Daniel Yu sent up these sick pieces that show off his incredible skills, and believe it or not most of these started out as UglyDolls of course with the exception of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sgt. Bananas figure. Clockwise from top left they are "A Guerilla Peacemaker", "Trials and Tribute-lations", "Wishful Thinking", "Imaginary Friend", "A Little Stranger" and "Still Standing, Standing Still". These were all made using epoxy putty and acrylic paints, and you can check out more work from Daniel on flickr or on his blog. Awesome stuff!!

Jeremiah Ketner signing @ SDCC 2011

Artist Jeremiah Ketner made it back out this year for another round of SDCC, but instead of traveling stag he brought his wonderful wife along with a ton of customs and enough ink pens to sketch for the entire convention center... which is what he geared up for as Dragatomi hosted Jeremiah to sketch and sign for all of his fans. Watching Jeremiah go to work on his sketches really gives you a deep appreciation for the talent that this man possesses, and if you have not seen his work in person, do yourself a favor and find some to eyeball :-)

On display at DKE's booth during SDCC 2011 - David Flores "Deathead" prototype

Yet another awesome piece was on display at DKE's booth during SDCC 2011, and once again it was from the folks over at BIC Plastics as they teamed up with David Flores to release a new figure that is being tentatively called "Deathead". The sculpt itself stood a good 10" tall and blended the iconic mickey mouse aesthetic with a fighter pilot along with a skull and cross bones. I am really loving the unpainted version and hopefully when paint is applied it will not detract from the bitchen design. There is no word on a release date or a price but expect details very soon! Kaiju, Metal & MMA - Kiyoshi Nakazawa x Josh Barnett signing at SDCC 2011

This had to have been one of my highlights for the SDCC this year as I am a huge MMA fan, and follow pretty much every league out there... to make a long story short I ran into Josh Barnett aka "The Baby Faced Assassin" last Thursday at the Munky king party where we geeked out on toys for a good 10 minutes until he told me that he was going to be having a signing at the Gargamel booth the next day... fast forward... he was with artist Kiyoshi Nakazawa to release and promote not only his new "FU Robo" vinyl figure, but his own "Drunken Master" zine that he created for Japan relief efforts... which I picked up! I totally fan-boyed out with this experience and the best part was is that Josh is super down to earth, and a huge vinyl toy collector! Hopefully we get to cross paths again!

Sucklord slinging resin part 1 @ SDCC 2011

So you may ask... what the heck is up with "part 1" in the title in this post... well Sucklord was all over the place throughout the span of the convention and we caught him in a few areas sporadically slinging some of his resin figures... and this happens to be the first encounter. Sucklord showed up at the 'Global Figure Symposium' booth on Friday ready to take the money from innocent bystanders, in fact he let all those who waited pick the figures and then he promptly slapped them together in a blister-card format, splattered them with paint and shoved them outta the way for the next sale... it was a sight to see, and boy was he hustlin... moving quick.. and how can you not notice his lovely minions in the back, a true man of class. Tristan Eaton "B-Bot" signing @ SDCC 2011

Not only did Tristan Eaton come out to promote his amazing 3D Art book, but he was also attending SDCC 2011 because he had a new toy he was releasing with vinyl newcomers Plastic City who took his originally designed "B-Bot" iPhone application character and turned him into a vinyl toy. Although the DIY version was only available at the con, and the OG Mascot version will drop sometime in the near future, Tristan did mention that they plan on making these much smaller, and more affordable with tons off different options in graphics to really expand on the playability of this figure... and that sounds really promising! It was a pleasure to finally meet you dude, and hopefully we can connect in the near future. hit the break for more photos of Tristan's signing.

Emilio Garcia's Brain Pattern Qees from Toy2R

Toy2R is pleased to announce the development of two highly 'active' Brain Pattern Qee Bears by Emilio Garcia. As seen during SDCC, Toy2R will be releasing variants of the highly popular Brain Pattern Qee, released last year. The editions both glow in the dark and will be available in the classic GID form and the newly 'Active' White edition.

Both versions will be limited to production and are scheduled to make their debut during the Emilio Garcia exhibit taking place in September at Toy Art Gallery in Los Angeles (as well as other major surprises to be announced soon)... and I wonder if those Jumping Brains above have anything to do with those surprises... stay tuned to TAG and Toy2R USA for more developments.

Scribe signing @ SDCC 2011

This year Kansas City based artists Scribe made the trip out to San Diego once again to release some really limited edition wares via the Cardboard Spaceship booth to the masses... and unlike the past few years where the folks over at Cardboard Spaceship had resin figures produced, Scribe did the production himself this year with a limited run of rhino "Rumpus" heads... and boy did they turn out amazing! He also brought out a ton of customs and doodled on pretty much everything he was handed! If you had the chance to stop by you would see why everyone is in love with his work... one, because it's amazing and two, because Scribe is one of the most down to earth artists you will ever meet... super cool guy! I am excited to see what he does the rest of this year because if he is making resin himself... the sky is the limit! Hit the jump for more pictures!
