Mechanical Dreams: Chen Yanran Reveals Her Futuristic “KeyA” Designer Toy Universe through Pop Mart!

Artist Chen Yanran has officially entered the designer toy world, in colloboration with Pop Mart, with the debut of her new character, KeyA, introducing a universe that blends mechanical aesthetics, sci-fi storytelling, and futuristic character design. At the core of KeyA is Chen’s signature “mechanical girl” style — elegant, elongated forms combined with intricate biomechanical structures. Each figure exists somewhere between machine and organic life, creating a visual identity that feels both delicate and engineered, emotional yet artificial.

With the KeyA: A Lucid Dream Series, Chen expands her narrative beyond familiar cyberpunk settings into deep space. The series imagines a universe shaped by mechanical life forms, alien ecosystems, and interstellar exploration — where technology is not just a tool, but an extension of identity and existence.

Within this world, characters move fluidly between biological and mechanical states, forming connections with their environments through hybrid systems and unknown energy networks. The storytelling is less about fixed narratives and more about atmosphere and possibility — a dreamlike space where evolution is constant and boundaries are blurred.

Two figures from the series, BlinkBot and BuddyGlow, have already been revealed, offering a first glimpse into this evolving universe. Both characters reflect Chen’s approach to combining structural precision with emotional presence, balancing futuristic design with a sense of personality and quiet narrative.

Rather than treating mechanical elements as purely functional or decorative, Chen uses them as symbols of transformation, freedom, and self-redefinition. In KeyA, the body becomes a system in flux — something that can be continuously reshaped, adapted, and reimagined.
