Vandul Unleashes THE BRUSH SALESMAN… A Deep-Cut Disney History Pull Turned Vinyl!
Vandul is back with a seriously fascinating release, and this one digs deep into animation history while delivering a chunky, character-driven vinyl figure that feels right at home on the shelf. Introducing THE BRUSH SALESMAN, an 8" tall vinyl figure now available for preorder, and yeah… this one comes with a lot of context. Standing 8" tall and produced in vinyl, THE BRUSH SALESMAN features fully removable brush accessories, which instantly adds a ton of play and display options. The figure is slated to ship in the Fall (estimate), with preorder pricing set at $169 (and expected to jump to $199 after). Classic Vandul move… reward the early supporters.
What makes this release especially interesting is its inspiration. THE BRUSH SALESMAN is based on the Fuller Brush Man version of the Big Bad Wolf from Disney’s Silly Symphony: Three Little Pigs (1933). In the original cartoon, the Wolf appeared disguised as a Jewish peddler… a scene that was later removed due to its offensive stereotyping. For the film’s 1948 re-release, Disney reanimated the sequence, transforming the character into a Fuller Brush Man while keeping the coat, hat, and glasses disguise intact.
That edit is still noticeable today, as the reanimated footage has slightly less detailed backgrounds compared to the original animation. Over the years, TV airings edited the scene even further, redubbing the Wolf’s voice to remove stereotypical elements. When the short finally hit home video, the reanimated Fuller Brush Man sequence became the standard, while international releases retained the original audio paired with the updated animation.
Vandul’s take leans into that layered history while pushing it into bold, sculptural vinyl form. The character design is chunky, expressive, and packed with personality… from the exaggerated snout and beard to the tool-laden coat and oversized feet. I think it’s a super compelling mix of cartoon nostalgia, historical commentary, and modern designer toy aesthetics, and honestly, it’s one of those pieces that sparks conversation the second someone sees it on your shelf.
If you’re into designer toys that pull from deep pop culture history and aren’t afraid to get a little wild/controversial with it, THE BRUSH SALESMAN is absolutely worth a look. Preorders are live now directly from Vandul, with shipping expected later this year… and knowing Vandul, this one is going to stand out in a big way once it lands.
