THE BRUSH SALESMAN is based on the Fuller Brush Man version of the Big Bad Wolf from Disney’s Silly Symphony: Three Little Pigs (1933). In the original cartoon, the Wolf appeared disguised as a Jewish peddler… a scene that was later removed due to its offensive stereotyping. For the film’s 1948 re-release, Disney reanimated the sequence, transforming the character into a Fuller Brush Man while keeping the coat, hat, and glasses disguise intact.

That edit is still noticeable today, as the reanimated footage has slightly less detailed backgrounds compared to the original animation. Over the years, TV airings edited the scene even further, redubbing the Wolf’s voice to remove stereotypical elements. When the short finally hit home video, the reanimated Fuller Brush Man sequence became the standard, while international releases retained the original audio paired with the updated animation.

Vandul’s take leans into that layered history while pushing it into bold, sculptural vinyl form.
