WHAT'S NEW

New Skelves & Work In Progress Shots for Kathie Olivas's 'Scout' @ Stranger Factory 4/5!

Continuing our coverage of Kathie Olivas's upcoming solo, we get to ogle yet another batch of gorgeous handpaints, editions and paintings she has in store for Scout, opening April 5th at Stranger Factory. I'm always amazed at how prolific this gal is -- burning the midnight oil yet never producing anything short of stunning. A small gathering of Calliope Jackalopes and Lizzies are among the handpainted pieces making an appearance at the show, along with -- *gasp* -- the head of King Rufus?! Why, what ever has happened to our bear-hooded boy prince?! Nah, I'm just kidding. His body will be there, too. You'll actually see it tucked away in a later photo ... here's hoping he has no trouble finding it.

And then there's this rather delicious group of Greeters. On left, handpainted versions of the new resin Mini Greeter. On right: A NEW EDITION. That's right, ladies and gents! Say hello to the Red Death Vamp Greeter. It'll release as part of KO's exhibition, but there's no word yet on edition size or price, so we'll have to get back to you on that. Regardless, we are SO thrilled to see the Snake Skelve mask on a production piece!

Speaking of new editions, look carefully at these two photos. Notice anything ... different ... about the Skelves? The photo on the right is a pretty good hint. Folks, that '3' Skelve is a whole new size. Yes, I'm serious! Look at the scale from left: mini, regular, the new 14-inch 'midi', and the mega. Fsghj!! We haven't seen a new Skelve size since, what, the Mega was introduced three years ago? While details on a potential edition are TBA, you can bet your booty there will be plenty of handpaints in the future, which will ROCK for those of us who can't quite swing the Mega's price tag.

And of course, the 2D goodness. Kathie will have a number of new paintings and studies for the show. While often present in her work, Numerology seems to be a prominent theme for this exhibition and we're lovin' what we've seen thus far. Scout opens April 5th through the 28th at Stranger Factory (109 Carlisle Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87106). An opening reception will be held April 5th from 6pm to 9pm; Kathie will be in attendance! A character design workshop will also take place that weekend in conjunction with the exhibition. Click here for more details and sign up info!
