Review/Unboxing: Funko Steps Into the Art Toy Game?! Sad Salesman ' Blonks Animal Afternoon' Blind Box Unboxing!
Alright… I’ve been really curious to see how Funko would handle stepping into the artist-driven designer toy lane, and after cracking these open… I gotta say… this Blonks™: Animal Afternoon series from Sad Salesman is hitting that sweet spot in my collectors heart! I just dropped a fresh unboxing over on the YouTube channel where I opened up three of the Premium Blind Boxes by Sad Salesman… and the pulls were nice. (Watch the video above and be sure to subscribe)
First up… the Platypus. This one is such a vibe. Sitting on that mossy mound, casually sipping while holding the baby in the egg… it’s weird, it’s adorable, and it totally nails that signature Sad Salesman storytelling. The sculpt feels super clean and the whole piece has this calm, cozy energy to it... and yeah, there is a little frog on the back of the stand - adorable!
Next… the Anemone. This one is just straight-up beautiful. Resting on that coral-inspired base with the removable little clown fish… come on… that detail alone makes it. The soft colors, the flow of the tentacles… it’s one of those pieces that feels more like a tiny scene than just a figure... and it glows in the dark - YES!!!
And then… yeah… We pulled the CHASE! The one and only Freddy Funko, holding his dog Proto… and honestly, it’s kind of perfect that Funko’s mascot shows up as the rare in a series like this. It feels like a crossover moment between their roots and this new artist-focused direction. Super fun piece, and yeah… always a good feeling when you hit that 1 in 36. Overall… this line feels like Funko is really starting to lean into the art toy world in a meaningful way. The removable bases, the softer design language, the character-driven sculpts… it’s not just another blind box series… this one’s got personality. If you’re into designer toys, vinyl collectibles, or blind box hunting, this is definitely one to check out. Oh... and if you want to see the full unboxing—including the live reactions and that chase pull—head over to the YouTube channel and give it a watch. And seriously… if you haven’t subscribed yet… now’s the time. More unboxings, more toy news, more goodness on the way… stay tuned.
