WHAT'S NEW

Preview of Gallery1988's "Crazy 4 Cult" group art show in New York!

Adam Limbert's above picture art piece most certainly is meant to reference Snake Plissken's initial outing in Escape from New York, but it might be more apropos as a reference to the poorly received sequel, Escape from L.A.… since, as we previously announced, the sixth installment of Gallery1988's "Crazy 4 Cult" art exhibit will take place in New York City instead of the venues typical California locations.
The art series focuses on works inspired by iconic cult films, like the Back to the Future print by Jayson Weidel (above left), The Professional interpretation by Veronica Fish (above right), and Fred Harper's painting of Fight Club (bottom left). Of course, the pieces don't have to reference a single movie, as Jason Edmiston's painting (bottom right) — which is also used for all the advertising art — clearly shows; everything from The Warriors to Robocop, King Kong to Aliens, They Live to Akira, Ghostbusters to Star Wars, Blade Runner to Back to the Future, are fair game in his single piece.
"Crazy 4 Cult: New York" opens on Thursday, August 9th from 6-9PM and runs through September 1st at the Gallery1988 NY Pop-Up Store, 64 Gansevoort St., New York, NY 10014.
