WHAT'S NEW

Review / Unboxing - ESC Toy Old Skool Kaiju, Blind Box Chaos & Zelda-Inspired Art Goodness at DesignerCon 2025!

DesignerCon 2025 seriously delivered, and this YouTube review and unboxing was one of those moments that reminded me exactly why I love this scene so much. I finally sat down to crack open two Old Skool Kaiju blind boxes from Erick Scarecrow of ESC Toys, specifically the 20th anniversary DCON blind boxes, and mixed in a killer Zelda-inspired print that instantly became wall-worthy. This whole experience hit that perfect sweet spot of nostalgia, surprise, and straight-up appreciation for an artist who has been doing the work for a long time.
Opening blind boxes is always fun, but these felt extra special knowing they were tied to ESC Toys’ 20-year milestone. The Old Skool Kaiju line has that unmistakable Erick Scarecrow energy... bold colors, playful monster vibes, and that classic vinyl soul that never gets old. There’s something about not knowing what’s inside and then pulling a piece that just clicks that still gets me hyped every single time. I think that’s the magic of blind boxes done right.
The Zelda-inspired print was another highlight. It’s one of those pieces where you can instantly feel the love for the source material without it being a direct copy. I’m a sucker for art that nods to gaming culture in a thoughtful, stylish way, and this one absolutely nailed it. I think the design is seriously cool, and it paired perfectly with the kaiju energy from the blind boxes. What really makes this video special for me, though, is the personal side. I’ve known Erick Scarecrow for a long time (Check out our first interview HERE), and it’s been such a treat watching his growth as an artist. Seeing his professional progression, from early days to major milestones like a 20th anniversary release at DesignerCon, is honestly inspiring. Moments like this remind me that collecting isn’t just about the objects... it’s about the people, the history, and the stories behind each piece.
If you haven’t checked out the video yet, definitely give it a watch.
