WHAT'S NEW

Luke Chueh's Bear Head Re-imagined… “Bear in Mind” at The Clutter Gallery!

Once again partnering with the Beacon, NY-based Clutter Gallery, lowbrow artist Luke Chueh has invited a plethora of talented artists to paint lifesize vinyl bearheads for the “Bear in Mind” group exhibition. The 10-inch tall vinyl pieces were worked upon by a who's who of artists, sculptors, and designers, including Angry Woebots, Calvin Ma, Colin Christian, Edwin Ushiro, Eimi Takano, Heidi Taillefer, Huck Gee, J★RYU, James Groman, JC Rivera, Jeremiah Ketner, Joe Whiteford, Jon-Paul Kaiser, Kathie Olivas, Kelly Denato, Lana Crooks, Lola Gil, Luke Chueh, Mab Graves, Matthew Bone, Nathan Ota, Nine Tails (Andrew Hem), Otto Björnik, Sas Christian, 64 Colors, Thomas Han, Tokyo Jesus, Travis Louie, VINZ, and Yoskay Yamamoto. With Luke himself being in attendance for the opening, this is surely going to be a show not to be missed! But, if you can't be there, make sure you join The Clutter Gallery's Preview List, as members always have first online chances to buy exhibition pieces.

The always impressive Mab Graves transformed her blank Bear Head into the likeness of a bat (above left), while J★RYU completely stuns us with this "Balloonhead 2016" interpretation of one of Luke's classic paintings… the bear as a hot air balloon!

Above left, artist Joe Whiteford transformed the base design into what he is calling a "Halloween Bear Mask," though we'll have to wait to see if it is actually wearable. And, above right, Otto Björnik's work-in-progress deer-like interpretation with hand-sculpted elf/fairy atop the head.

The death-obsessed art of Tokyo Jesus continues to impressive, this time being strictly in his paint application rather than his sculpting abilities (above left). Candie Bolton, in contrast, delivers a beaitiful and almost calming rendition (above right)… wait, is that an eye blooming out of that flower?!?

Bear in Mind, a group exhibition using solely Luke Chueh's Bear Head as a base, will open on Saturday, May 14th with a reception from 6-9PM local time and be on display until June 3rd, 2016 at The Clutter Gallery, 163 Main St., Beacon, NY 12508.
