WHAT'S NEW

Li Yan's "Mushroom Kid" Debuts in Several Editions!

There's something about the "Mushroom Kid" design by Chinese artist Li Yan, sometimes stylized as Liyan, that reminds me of Brendan Monroe's "Figment" figure. Beyond the obvious sitting position, both do embrace a more ambiguous shape, letting general sculptural gestures create the character's definition in the viewer's mind. Of course, Li Yan's version is wholly her own, beyond the playfulness of the pose, "Mushroom Kid" of course also has a shroom hat atop its head. Produced in what the artist refers to as "vinyl resin", which I'm assuming either means a hybrid of the two materials or that it's roto-cast resin, there are five different color editions in the form's original 5-inch tall size: brown, light pink, light mint green, laser silver, and glow-in-the-dark light green. With each of these hand-painted colorways limited to an edition of 30 pieces for $60.50 apiece, you might notice a slightly bigger rendition in the below-center picture. The double-sized "Star Light Black" edition stands nearly 10-inches tall and is limited to only 16 hand-painted pieces, each of which will cost $182 apiece. With all copies expected to ship by the end of October, you want to know how to secure yourself one, right?
