Philadelphia is about to get its very own playground for indie toy artists and collectors alike! This August, the City of Brotherly Love will host the
Designer Toy Art Festival, (ticket website
HERE) the region’s first large-scale event dedicated entirely to independent creator culture, custom art toys, and all things pop-surreal. Born from the beloved *Assembly Required event in Asheville, NC, this expanded festival kicks off August 1st with “
Philly of the Phuture”, a curated art exhibition at The Space Lab and online. Featuring original pieces by local and international artists, the show explores the theme of futurism through a uniquely Philadelphia lens — setting the stage for an immersive week of art, community, and creativity.
From there, the celebration grows into a full-on festival from August 8–10 at the historic 23rd Street Armory. Over three days, the festival will gather more than 100 toy artists, independent brands, and DIY creators under one roof — a rare chance to meet the makers behind your favorite resin figures, bootlegs, customs, and collectibles. Expect far more than just toys on tables — the Designer Toy Art Festival will be packed with live DJ sets, food, drinks, cosplay, puppetry, a puppet slam, and exclusive drops that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s a chance for the indie toy community to celebrate its roots and look to the future together.
This expansion is the result of a powerhouse collaboration between;
Assembly Required, GoHero, Acori Honzo, and Atomic Toybox Entertainment, with the goal of giving independent artists a bigger stage and more opportunities to share their stories through art toys. From bold bootlegs to pop-culture mashups, surreal sculpts to next-gen designer figures, the Designer Toy Art Festival will show why art toys continue to thrive as a storytelling medium and cultural force.
