Custom Jumping Brains for "Memorys Are Made Of This" by Mikie Graham aka ZombieMonkie

This coming Saturday, 8/18 sees the last art show to ever grace the walls of legendary Los Angles art gallery/toy store, Munky King. It's truly a sad night for toy and art fans world wide... but on the bright side of things, "Memories are Made of This" the last show to be hosted by MK, is a show put together by Super Cooper Berella, celebrating his 13th Birthday! For the show, 50+ artists have created work based on memories from their childhood, and the work is as inspired as the events jaw dropping lineup. For the show, toy customizer Mikie Graham aka ZombieMonkie created two mini Jumping brains customs. One we have already seen; "This Is Your Brain" which debuted at this years Comic Con. The other is a brand new psychedelic inspired piece entitled "Your Brain On Drugs". Although this may be slightly risque subject matter for a 13 year old's birthday, Mikie mentions "my customs come from a strong childhood memory of the stark black and white anti-drug adds of the 1980's. A dark inspiration that has translated into some very unique art toys." Each Mini Brain is hand painted, covered in resin and then hand painted again to resemble a fried egg. These customs are then set to rest in a real cast iron frying pan! Both customs come packaged in a hand crafted box with a removable mini print on its lid. Each egg is also signed and numbered and because this is Cooper's 13th Birthday, Mikie made sure to send yellow egg #13 especially for the show! If you're in or around Los Angles this coming Saturday night, make sure to head down to 7308 Melrose Ave. and enjoy two monumental events: the closing of a historic art gallery and the 13th birthday of one very special young man!

NIKE JAPAN INNOVATION HUNT feat. Medicom Be@rbrick

Trust Nike to be involved with this cool little project, the "Nike Japan Innovation Hunt". This is my kind of treasure hunt with coolness to be found. To launch the Nike Lunar Glide+ 4 and the Nike Flyknit sneakers, they hid lots of awesome on the streets of Tokyo. Aided with a map, lucky finders are keepers of a Lunarlon skateboard deck, soccer balls, the Flyknit Bearbrick toy and fixed gear bike. Damn. Peep the pics and see more HERE. Dig those kicks, although I would equally dig Olek making me some threads ;)

Josh Marlar's "Sacrifive" Sculpture for Munky King show!

Crafted for the "Memories Are Made Of This" group art show, Josh "Binary Drones" Marlar's creature creation is a sculpt-from-scratch evil tree stump known as "Sacrifive." Formed out of standard super sculpey and then airbrushed for coloration, this fantastic piece carries with it quite the childhood memory:
I was around 7 or 8 (if I remember correctly) when my left hand was almost eaten by this stump in the front yard of my grandmothers house…At the time we had been stuck in doors for almost a week because of a crazy rain storm. We were so excited to get outside as fast as we could. So what is the first thing that I do? I challenge my sister to a race to the ole swing set. Of course I wasn't thinking about the stump that was in the middle of the hill heading to the swing set but it def. caught my attention (if you catch my drift). I ended up falling, shielding myself with my hands by putting them out in front of me to catch my fall. The stumps core had some breakage that was not cut flat. That breakage pierced into my hand. Next, you can probably guess what happened, hospital, surgery, stitches, the whole nine yards. I don't remember much after the fall. Just the doctors in and out working on my hand. Weeks with stitches, hot alcohol rinses and bandages, I learned a lesson. Let your sister go first, just kidding. Don't hurry out into the sun, that greed will catch up to you.
Marlar's "Sacrifive" will be available at the show for $145.

"Memories Are Made Of This" opens on August 18th, 2012 with a reception from 4-8PM. It doubles as a 13th Birthday celebration for Super Cooper Berella and a final "Hurrah!" for Munky King before they close their Melrose location at the end of the month.

UME Toys's "Soundwave" from The Transformers is simply stunning!

Back when we teased the work-in-progress pic of this piece, we could already tell it was going to be a stunner… and Richard "UME Toys" Page does not disappoint. Pictured above (and shown in a slideshow of glorious images below) is Page's completely sleek, sexy, stunning and even simple-looking rendition of "Soundwave" from The Transformers. While staying true to the original design, Page beautifully reinterpreted it and made it his own. Please can someone, anyone, with a official Transformers license release this piece? Or maybe do an entire line in Page's brilliant style? Please? Hit the jump for more photos!

Hoakser's custom "Sloblife Episide 3" Munny… The show must go on!

UK-based artist Hoakser has returned to one of most popular designs for the third time… Sloblife, Sloblife2 and the freshly made "Sloblife Episode 3" (pictured above and below). Using a custom Munny body with a Simpsons TV set for a head, the original version had no articulation at the neck (which Hoakser fixed in the following two version) and neither of the previous versions had a bendable wire coming from the TV (which this third version does)… it's an experiment in refinement and evolution. I kinda expect the four version to include some form of lighting within the TV head to fully show off those interchangeable TV screen transparencies. "Sloblife Episode 3" is available now in Hoakser's online shop for £65 (approx. $102).
