"Itchy & Scratchy" custom Qee's by MeSmithy

Megan aka MeSmithy just finished up another set fantastic leather clad customs... and this go around she choose the subject matter of the Simpson's cartoon, and more specifically "Itchy and Scratchy", as she customized 2 Qees for Toy2R's booth #876 at NYCC! The craftsmanship of each piece that she creates keeps getting cleaner and cleaner, and this is a fantastic combo! The attention to detail is so precise... shoot, she even made 'Scratchy's' head removable so it appears to be decapitated... so cool! Be sure to swing by booth #876 to see this piece, as well as many others in person!

"George The Vampire" by Tara McPherson x Cherry Vinyl... event announcement for NYCC!!

Well look what we have here... an updated shot of "George The Vampire" from Tara McPherson as she is proud to be hosting Pretty in Plastic, Cherry Vinyl, and Lulubell Toys on Saturday, October 15th from 7pm-11pm for the exclusive release of this blood sucking fiend! According to Tara this figure will be hand cast resin and is going to debut in a "Gold" colorway! One thing I do notice about this figure, that is different than last time we saw him HERE, is the hollowed out heart shaped chest cavity... a much needed touch to put this already rad figure over the top! What else will this group of talented individuals bring to the table that night... time will tell, but one thing is certain, if you are out in NYC for this event... don't miss it!

Plastic City @ NYCC 2011

I was curious as to when we would hear from the folks over at Plastic City... and just announced is their NYCC line-up... but it's not what you think! They are giving artists their own space this NYCC, and the artists are taking it over, meaning each day of NYCC at their Cultyard booth #676, it's being taken over by a different artist on Friday it's by Josh Taylor, MCA on Saturday, and Sara Antoinette Martin on Sunday! They will have new work, old work and special treats for all their fans. Oh, and there will be some Plastic City toys there to sell but the main focus is the artists... so be sure to swing by and say what's up to these awesome talents!

Red Alert Bambaboss & Soviet Infiltrator Customs by Dory

Artist Daniel Yu aka Dory sent up pics of these two awesome customs that were done up in a soviet style paintjob, and he killed them! From the three faces and rusty red of the "Red Alert" Bambaboss, to the added sculpting on the "Soviet Infiltrator" Playmobile figure, Daniel has brought two more incredible customs to his portfolio and I'm jealous of the owner! These were done as a commissioned set, so if you want your own custom then contact him here or hit up his flickr for more pics of these rad pieces!

'Tenacious Blue' Borracho De Los Muertos resin figures by John"Spanky"Stokes at NYCC 2011

Just when you thought all the NYCC 2011 releases had been revealed, we have one more for you, as I was tasked by Benny of Tenacious Toys to make a small special NYCC run of my resin "Borracho De Los Muertos" figures! I was stoked to say the least and this edition I am calling "Tenacious Blue"... get it?!?! These measure 6" tall and about that size in girth. This set of 5 hand-sculpted, hand-cast, and hand-painted figures feature three shades of blue with hints of pearlized silver accents all over... which, by the way, were almost impossible to catch in the photograph above... so you gotta see them in person to really appreciate the paint, it's stunning! These will be made available at the Tenacious Toys booth #876 everyday during the convention for $65 a piece. Oh, and if you are around on Sunday the 12th, swing by the booth to get something signed, sketched on, or to just chat as I will be there at 12:30PM!

The time of the Corrupter is upon is! Josh "f+" Pearce's new figure "The Corrupter" on Kickstarter

Artist Josh "f+" Pearce has been working on an original figure for quite some time now, and you all may know Josh for his AMAZING custom one-off figures... well he is now trying to take the next step and mass produce his new figure titled "The Corrupter" with the help from YOU via Kickstarter. This project however is a bit different as Josh is not raising money to have this sent to a factory to produce multiples, Josh is raising money to cover the cost of materiel as he is going to hand-cast and hand-paint each of these... giving you the opportunity to own a distinct/affordable piece of art from Josh!

This figure stands about 6.5" tall, and will come with a smaller 2.5" 'fungal fiend'! You gotta love that ominous pose of the Corrupter figure standing over the fiend as the sculpture captures that moment in time of the magical transformation happening. Through Kickstarter, there are a ton of different tiers that you can pledge, all of which give you a multitude of options! This is a great way to support an artist and in turn get an epic piece of art. Head on over HERE now and pledge some money! Oh, and if you are coming to Designer-Con on November 5th... look for this figure at the SpankyStokes.com booth along with tons of other customs from Josh!!!

Custom Qees by Tharp for NYCC 2011

Thse new customs turned out fantastic and in true Tharp fashion feature tons of vibrant colors and shapes. In addition to having a bunch of customs, contests, and merch Tharp notes that during the show he will be drawing with as many people as possible. "Anyone can come up and grab a sharpie and start the doodle. I'll finish it and they get to take it with them for FREE. We also will once again have a drawing to win a custom Munny. The winner will get to work with me in creating the theme, colors, etc for their Munny. The goal is to really help drive home what Ohiya stands for the -art of making friends-"! This is such a great opportunity to see some great art in person and to interact with artists so don't miss out!

Kidrobot @ NYCC 2011

Kidrobot makes their presence know at this years NYCC with a handful of release and first up is a new'ish 7" Labbit designed by South African artist Kronk! What is being billed the "Ever so often things don’t go exactly as planned" Yankee Pig Dog Labbit! This awesomely looking designed Labbit had some issues in the factory and instead of scrapping the entire project Kidrobot is offering these at a discounted rate... but honestly it's still too much money for a faulty item. DKE offers up slightly smudged items in their "Graveyard" sale every year at Designer-Con... and something like this would sell for around $20... even if it is just slightly smudged! I see what Kidrobot is doing, but $70 still seems like too much cash. in any case, these will be available at the con.

Oh my god, they killed Kenny... again!!!!! Dead Kenny is back and taking over NYCC in a very special addition to the South Park and Kidrobot collaborative mini series, Dead Kenny GID Edition is sculpted to look every bit the worse for wear, featuring exposed brains, bloody ribs, authentic cuts, scratches and scrapes, and an arm that falls off the bone. Distressed and decaying! These are really cool looking figure in person and seeing as they are limited to 1,000 pieces, and retailing for $11.95... I am sure these will sell out like the other version did in no time!

Want more Street Fighter... well Kidrobot and Capcom are back with an all new exclusive NYCC limited edition chase figure... the electric-powered Blanka! Resembling more monster than human, Blanka has an in-the-dark glow to navigate his way through the Brazilian jungle. Only 1,000 of these chloro-filled chases made it out of the wild (and to NYCC) for $11.95 a pop!

'The Monsters Series' from Sticky Monster Lab

WOAH!!! Nick over at 'This Is Vinyl' just clued us into a really cool looking company/figure release and I gotta say it's super unique in this world of designer toys! Sticky Monster Lab, a creative studio in Korea was founded in 2007 by 3 members... all of which came from a different field (Motion graphic, Illustration and Festival managing) and now a figure artist has joined on board as another official member as they put their brain power together to create these silly looking plastic 6" tall creatures... all of which are available over HERE now!

One thing that really stands out to me is how unique they are, and you can just tell that they are made by designers just by looking at the packaging and the clean unified look! They also have an individuality about them, yet hold well together as a group... as you can see in the above photo... what a fun set to own!
