STUNNINGLY HIP! Lisa Rae Hansen's "Old Skool" custom Flawtoys's "Stranger" for ToyHeist!

My love affair with the art of Lisa Rae Hansen continues, as she continues to deliver stunning created pieces that literally take my breath away. Entitled "Old Skool," the above pictured piece is Hansen's contribution to the previously announced "ToyHeist" group show. Obviously living up to its name, I'll let Hansen herself describe it to, for I lack the words…

The face shape immediately suggested a TV and the curve of the head a "hoodie", so I rolled with that and went for a little nostalgic wander. The end result is character whose face is an old analogue TV screen. His body is suitably, non-digitally dressed, in classic retro Adidas (including the sneakers). I used the static on the screen to suggest the idea of his being stuck in a moment of time, jammed in a channel from a bygone era. He's either waiting to be tuned back in or happy to be lost in a fuzzy place from the past.

"ToyHeist" is currently on display until December 27th, 2013 at the Concrete Gallery, Spuistraat 250, 1012 VW Amsterdam.
