WHAT'S NEW

"B-KAWZ: APPROPRIATING THE APPROPRIATOR" vinyl figure from Necessaries Toy Foundation... a Kaws Tribute or RipOff?!?!

"B-KAWZ there isn't enough shit at Comicon already, B-KAWZ you are not a very discerning toy collector, B-KAWZ absolutely everyone bastardizes everyone else, B-KAWZ art imitating art is still art, geddit?" A very interesting solicitation email came our way this morning. Not only was it interesting in what it contained, but it was even more interesting (to us anyway) about who it was from. "B-KAWZ: APPROPRIATING THE APPROPRIATOR" is a new vinyl figure from Necessaries Toy Foundation... yup, they are still around. It appears that they pop up every year, or shall I say every four, to release a new figure... and to the best of our knowledge, their last release was Ryden's "YHWH" figure! With this new release, they are pretty much doing what artist Kaws already does... taking a classic character, putting XX's on the eyes as well as minimal additional sculpted elements, and calling it their own. Now, Kaws does nothing for us in that sense... not very creative - although a few of his designs are great - nothing in recent memory is very original... that's why after seeing this "bootleg" or "tribute" to Kaws is actually kinda cool.

Who says you can't bootleg a bootlegger, anyways?!? Plus, this is much cheaper than any Kaws out there... standing at 11" tall, limited to 250 pieces in this "Gold" edition, it comes with a custom box as well as a bootleg "Bendy" accessory that fits under the main figures foot! You will be able to snag one up at most all designer toy retail locations for only $100... needless to say, we have a feeling these will sell out, lending to the question... what other colorways will be available?!?! What do you all think about this? Read below to see how Necessaries Toy Foundation justifies this release...

"Call it what you will, is it a blatant rip-off or a noble tribute?
We at Necessaries Toy Foundation consider it a homage
to two successful and very respected artists.

It is also commentary and parody.

Is it an original idea? We think it is, but only in an esoteric sense.
In fact, it is a very original idea if you are a lateral thinker.

Appropriator? Perpetrator? Instigator?
It is what it is, and I yam what I yam.

B-KAWZ is a metaphor du jour. Merely this and nothing more..."
