KLAV’s Power Clone Turns a Familiar Droid Into Sofubi Scrap-Metal Gold!
Kevin Derken, better known as KLAV, is back with a brand new soft vinyl release, and this one looks like it rolled straight out of a rusted junkyard transmission from another galaxy. Meet the Power Clone, a bootleg Star Wars power droid reimagined through the beautifully grimy lens of old school kaiju bootlegs.
Inspired by the countless kaiju bootlegs KLAV came across during his recent trip to Japan and Taiwan this past March, Power Clone takes that familiar boxy droid silhouette and mutates it into a chunky, hand-sculpted platform built for paint, weathering, and full-on bootleg character. Each figure measures 5" tall x 4" deep x 3" wide and is produced in soft vinyl in China.
The painted versions are where this beast really comes alive, with each one-off featuring KLAV’s signature hand-painted grime, heavy rust effects, worn panels, expressive little screen faces, and added details like antennas and wires. These feel like discarded utility bots that have somehow survived decades of desert heat, scrapyard abuse, and underground toy culture all at once.
There will be 11 one-off painted sofubi Power Clones available, each priced at $300 plus shipping. KLAV will also be releasing marble blank versions at the same time, priced at $90, and each blank comes with a header card.
The Power Clone are available NOW exclusively through KLAV’s webstore at themoyogallery.com. Do not sleep on these little rust buckets... they look like they have seen things.
