Bakemono Works Unleashes The Bizarre Men... A Mutant Art Toy Project From Tony Garcia!

Here we go... a brand new independent art toy project has started crawling out of the digital sculpting lab, and it is already packed with strange creature energy, Japanese street culture influence, graffiti attitude, and a whole lot of weird toy personality! Introducing Bakemono Works, the personal art toy studio from Brazilian artist, game designer, and 3D creator Antônio Marcelo, also known in the gaming and 3D communities as Tony Garcia.

Tony created Bakemono Works as a way to break away from his professional routine and explore the more playful, kitsch, underground side of his creativity. Outside of toys, he runs a company specializing in cybersecurity and blockchain, as well as his own game studio... but Bakemono Works is where he gets to let the monsters, mutants, and bizarre little weirdos run wild.

The first collection under the Bakemono Works banner is called Bizarre Men, a lineup of oddball characters pulling inspiration from science fiction, comic books, television, video games, vintage artwork, Japanese street culture, graffiti, and underground collectibles. These figures feel like they were pulled from the back corner of a bootleg toy shop, tossed into a fighting game, covered in neon attitude, and then sculpted into something totally original.

Tony’s process starts with loose, rough sketchbook ideas before diving into reference hunting through Pinterest, art books, and vintage visuals. From there, he builds the characters in Blender, using character rigging, non-destructive SDF modeling, and traditional modeling with Blender’s remeshing tools. Once the digital sculpt is finished, the characters are brought into the physical world through 3D printing.

What makes this project fun is that Tony is fully aware of where his strengths are. As he puts it, traditional clay sculpting is not exactly his superpower, but thanks to 3D modeling and printing, these mutant ideas finally have a way to exist. And honestly, that is what independent toys are all about... finding your own path, your own process, and your own visual language.

Bakemono Works is starting with four initial models as Tony tests the waters and looks to see if collectors connect with the project. His plan is to produce very small runs of around 10 to 15 numbered copies of each piece, with the possibility of offering them for sale. He has also considered connecting each piece to an NFT, although he is still thinking that through due to the way NFTs have been received in recent years.

For now, Bakemono Works is just getting started, but the early visuals already have a ton of personality. From the rough sketchbook pages to the purple prototype figures, logo work, card-style mockups, and full Bizarre Men presentation pieces, this project has that raw “first wave is coming” energy that makes new indie toy projects exciting to watch.
