CTRL+Z prototype Art Toy by Dorff Studio — The Art of Undoing!
France-based artist Stephan Galvin launched Dorff Studio in the summer of 2025 with a very specific vision in mind… not just to create another designer toy, but to build a character defined by physical presence and the depth of its gaze. The result is CTRL — a platform character rooted in light, reflection, and perception — and CTRL+Z marks the first thematic edition built on that foundation.
At first glance, CTRL+Z references the familiar keyboard shortcut. But here, it isn’t about erasing mistakes. It’s about the possibility of choosing differently while acknowledging that what’s been lived still exists. The character stands firmly with hands on hips, facing forward. The posture isn’t retreating or apologizing… it’s steady. Present. Resolved.
What truly sets CTRL apart are the eyes. Instead of painted graphics, Stephan developed layered optical constructions that create real physical depth. Each eye is housed inside a capsule structure framed with a metallic gold ring and sealed with a domed PMMA optical lens. The result is wild in person… the character appears to look at you, yet what you see in its eyes is your own reflection and the surrounding environment. It shifts with light and viewing angle, making the gaze feel alive rather than decorative.
The prototype was developed at an impressive 40 cm (15.7" tall) scale to establish strong proportions and weight. Sculpted digitally in collaboration with 3D developer Victoria Cojocari and produced in high-resolution print by Demeng Toy, the matte black and gold finishes elevate the piece into that sleek, premium space collectors love. The optical eye modules and body elements were assembled by hand to ensure precise alignment and finish, and manufacturability for future vinyl production was considered from the start.
CTRL+Z is planned as a limited, numbered edition and serves as the foundation for a broader character line. The long-term goal is to transition CTRL into vinyl production and expand into multiple thematic versions, all built on the same core sculpt and silhouette. If this first edition is any indication, Dorff Studio is positioning CTRL as a long-game platform character… and I’m here for it.
