PUNKITTY by Pono… A Squishy Punk Rock Art Toy With 90s Energy!

Sometimes a toy shows up that immediately feels different… and that’s exactly the vibe I got when I saw PUNKITTY, the upcoming debut art toy from Italian visual artist Anasse Nabil aka Pono. Pono’s creative roots run deep. Before diving into art toys, he spent nearly two decades immersed in graffiti writing, HipHop culture, photography, fashion visuals, and 3D design. That wide creative background clearly bleeds into PUNKITTY… a toy that feels like it crawled straight out of a gritty 90s underground scene.

What makes this piece especially interesting is that Pono approached the design from a different perspective than most collectible toys. Instead of creating something purely for the shelf, he wanted to bring playability back into the mix. The result is PUNKITTY, a rubber art toy that’s meant to be handled, squeezed, tossed, and enjoyed. Think collectible designer toy meets stress-relief toy… with a mischievous punk attitude baked right into the sculpt. The character itself has a chunky, ergonomic body with sharp punk-style spikes running down its back, exaggerated paws, and a mischievous expression that feels equal parts cute and rebellious. The sculpt has that raw, tactile energy that makes you want to pick it up immediately.

Even cooler… these will be produced entirely by hand by Pono himself, giving the project a very personal DIY spirit that echoes the artist’s graffiti origins. And there’s another fun twist… PUNKITTY will be fluorescent, adding an extra visual punch that collectors are definitely going to appreciate. Right now what we’re seeing are teaser images, but the plan is for the toy to officially launch around May / June, alongside the debut of Pono’s website and packaging.
