WHAT'S NEW

Woodgrain Warrior by Motorbot

I was just going to post this via Twitter, but I thought, hey, why not hijack Spanky's blog and share it up with the world? Several months back, I saw some amazing fight figures on Motorbot's Society6 page. The armor was terrific, but it was the woodgrain that really caught my eye. It's important to recall that Motorbot has been hand-painting the subtle nuances of wood since well before 2009 (when woodgrain became the in-vogue "colorway"). The artist, also known as Kevin Olson, agreed to a semi-complex trade involving my inaccurate understanding of timezones and a Jamungo Squadt drop. The figure you see here was once a blank DIY 8-inch Qee. That woodgrain is not one of the recent Toy2R production figures; it was hand-painted. And no, you're not looking at metal: that's styrene.

Talent runs in the family. I saw a couple Munnys by mini-Motorbots, Elliot and Aidan, at the recent Art for Wishes show. Is this the year of the Tiger? Maybe, but it's also the year of the Motorbot. He's already got a couple shows on the books for 2010. You might want to grab up some of his reasonably priced figures before everybody catches wind of his work. Great piece and thanks, Kevin!
