WHAT'S NEW

Fun City/Urban Archeology by Hugh Gran

This 2 color screenprint on 100 lb. cover weight paper measures 17¹¹ x 4¹¹. It is an edition of 62 and each is numbered and signed by the artist.

Fun City/Urban Archeology was printed by JC at Hard Pressed Studios in Los Angeles, CA. This print is of a drawing by Gran that was created from a work platform off the Kosciuszko Bridge in NYC the last summer of the World Trade Center towers' existence. It is reproduced here at the exact size as the original illustration. It's quick black lines are set against a contrasting orange splash reflective of the light of dusk that day.

Says Gran of his piece: "I was there with my boy Jimmy Dowd who thought it would be a good idea as a graphic for some tees and eventually (skateboard) decks... it did and still does. ...I think it was a great time to be alive... That calm before the storm of our post-911 world. I look at that drawing, it takes me back, and makes me feel better in the here and now."

PRICE: $40.00

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Mr. Gran, born and raised in New York City, received a BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design in 1996. Although currently on sabbatical, he teaches at both Parsons School of Design and New York University.

A prolific artist, Mr. Gran works in illustration, design, photography, video, and motion graphics. His various media have been included in exhibits across the globe including Japan and New York City. Mr. Gran's work has also been published in such books as "Disposable: Skateboard Art Book", "I_NY: Street Art", and "Peace Signs: The Anti-War Movement Illustrated", and more.

When asked about the basis for some of his more direct and literal political subject matter Mr. Gran states: "the controversy surrounding G W Bush's Presidency in 2000 politicized me, and I found a political voice in my art; I started to work with independent news groups dedicated to reporting a non corporate view of the news like the Independent Media Center of New York, DCTV, FSTV, MNN, Democracy Now, and tried to keep up my visual chops by doing stuff with the good people of the YO Peace Show, Hard Pressed Studios, and random Skate Board/Clothing companies, as well as some other more commercial ventures."
