The long-awaited "Bearing the Unbearable: The Art of Luke Chueh" book appears to be eminent. Above are pics Chueh shared on his Twitter feed of all the proof pages and the dustjacket cover. But wait… what's this? Pictures of Luke Chueh signing Signature Sheets for the books?!?

That's right! This book will continue the print partnership between Gallery1988 and Titan Books, and we're assuming that the signed edition will be a Gallery1988 exclusive with the unsigned edition being readily available elsewhere. If Amazon is to be trusted, the book has a retail price of $34.95, clocks in at 160 pages, and will be released on June 5th.

Woodward Windows: Detroit's artistic renovation by Tristan Eaton, TrustoCorp, AVONE, Ron English & more

Almost a year ago, the first phase of the Woodward Windows project was born. The idea was to fill the vacant & abandoned business spaces on the historic Woodward Ave. in Detroit with art. Many of the sad spaces were given new vibrancy & life and now, with the addition of 15 new artists, the project is really taking form. In the above picture, you can see the former Michigan National Bank transformed by pieces by Tristan Eaton & TrustoCorp and, as show below, AVONE & Ron English.

Other artists that appear in the project? Shez's "Toy Soldier" Custom Munny is absolutely amazing

Do you remember those halcyon days of yore when — in your youth — what seemed like literal tons of tiny plastic toy soldiers were scattered about your room, enacting complex military maneuvers against one another, the folks of blankets being a rough & harried battlefield for them to clash upon? Well, Bryan Bramley aka Shez certainly does… and he's remolded his childhood recollections into an absolutely stunning "Toy Soldier" custom 4" Munny.

In line with some of his other recent work, like the Tankcap custom, the military theme is as obvious as the amount of time & effort put into making the piece absolutely stunning. The helmet is fully made out of super sculpey and remains removable, just like the gun which has a plastic base and sculpey detailing. The whole piece was spray painted green and then lightly brushed with some acrylic paint in order to achieve that lightly worn finish you'd expect out of a played with toy soldier. I think we can all agree that Shez is certainly one to watch, which you can do: at Facebook, on Twitter, and/or on Instagram.

"Toy Soldier" will be making his first public appearance at the "Triforce Conspiracy" three-person art show which opens on February 18th and runs through March 11th at Darkside Records & Gallery, 782 Main St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

So we love Cris Rose; who wouldn't, the man hand-casts amazing robots called Sprogs that any sane person would want to own. And we love DrilOne; because we're not stupid and even an idiot can see that man's talent at making amazingly stressed & rustified customs. So you tell me that the two are collaborating together on a project called "Decommissioned" and my heart flutters. But what is it? The two are being tight-lipped until the official announcement this weekend, but I'm thinking it has to do with this:

The above image comes from DrilOne's Flickr feed and he posted it to his Twitter with the message: "Hands are starting to rust @crisr." So he tags Cris Rose in the comment and, why yes, those are a horde of Sprogs that DrilOne is working on. I'm sure the more details we get, the more excited we'll be… I just know you can already sign me up for one of those bad boys!

The Loyal Subjects x Gary Baseman - The "Buckingham Warrior" vinyl figure... in Green!

Back in January of 2011, we posted up a photo HERE of Adam from The Loyal Subjects posing for an interview... and in the foreground there were some new, yet to be revealed, figures from Gary Baseman... and today we finally get to see what that figure is! Introducing the "Buckingham Warrior" from the Wolyner Forest... a fantastic new creation from the mind of Baseman! The figure itself has a pretty deep backstory, which can be found HERE, and one thing that is impressive to me the thought that went into the creation of this!

It is impressive in size, measuring in at 12" tall this spiky fella features several points of articulation (including the adjoining heads, arms and legs), and comes packaged in a closed, satin finished box. This "Green" edition is the first to drop and will be limited to only 400 pieces worldwide and will retail for $115 a piece... quite a hefty number, then again... this figure is BIG! These are going to go up for pre-sale HERE on Wednesday, February 22nd, at Noon PST, and will ship out in April. Oh... and they mention other colorways will follow... Custom "Red Skull" Munny by David Kraig

Newcomer to the whole custom vinyl toy scene, David Kraig, just sent over some info on one of his first pieces... yeah, you read that right... this is one of his first customs! This piece, titled "Red Skull", is a custom 7" Munny customized to resemble Captain America's arch nemesis... and David did a fantastic job! He used Super Sculpy for the sculpt and acrylic paint along with his air brush to put down some finishing touches! Some serious detail work went into this piece... just look at the clothing, and the face... WOW! He tells us that a "Captain America" will soon follow. Bobby Grossman's "Low Fidelity" opening w/ Shepard Fairey/Obey Giant piece

Bobby Grossman's "Low Fidelity: Photographs 1975-1983" opens tonight at the Vertu Fine Art Gallery in Boca Rotan, FL. Grossman, upon graduating from RISD and moving to NY, found himself entrenched in the New Wave/No Wave music, art & fashion scene that was burgeoning. Camera in hand, Grossman was able to capture the time period perfectly by photographing such notables as David Bowie, Debbie Harry, Jean-Michel Basquiat, The Talking Heads (the bandmembers of which Grossman had attended college with), The B-52's, Ramones, William S. Burroughs, TV Party, Andy Warhol's The Factory, CBGB, The Mudd Club and Downtown 81. In addition, his collaborative piece with Shepard Fairey will be on display as well. A book of the works in the show will also be available.

The March 4th episode (S23E15) is entitled "Exit Through The Kwik-E-Mart," a playful jest on Banksy's Exit Through The Gift Shop, and will feature Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf and Robbie Conal guest voicing themselves.

The plot will revolve around Bart and his sidekick Milhouse plastering Homer's unflattering image all over Springfield and, when the duo are caught in the act by the guest street artists, Bart's invited to exhibit his street art in a gallery show.

Artist Frank Kozik continues to bust out busts... and his latest satire is on the late Kim Jong-Il. This North Korean dictator passed away earlier this year and you gotta love the mashup that Kozik did with Elvis and Jong-Il... or should I say "Ilvis" :-)! Posted up via his Facebook page, Frank states that this should see the light of day later on this year... and initially there is no word on if this will be seen as a bronze or a fiberglass piece first... or if it will make the jump straight to vinyl! I am looking forward to seeing different iterations of this... but in the meantime, lets get prepped for Kozik's "Gipper" bust, making the debut this month!

Frank Kozik's Nervous Cosmonaut Bear Qee take 2?

Back in 2005, Frank Kozik designed a limited edition Bear Qee called the "Nervous Cosmonaut," which was only available at DKNY's Madison and Soho Stores, Toy2R Expo, and Yoyamart. Then, early this morning, Kozik posted the above image — also entitled the "Nervous Cosmonaut" — to his Facebook photo gallery. While the two Bear Qee's share the same name, this new version is far more detailed than the original. And, is it just me or are the ears on backwards, implying that the head is supposed to be turned around? This could be a sneak peak at an upcoming production design from Toy2R, a rejected project from Kozik, or something else; more information will be provided as it is given.

Ferg's new Scuba Squadt? Teaser pic & speculation

Ferg posted the above teaser to his Twitter feed yesterday, but with no word as to what it was. It appears to be a Scuba Squadt, dressed in a sweet diving suit complete with flippers on his feet, an underwater knife in his hand, and a harpoon gun behind him. While this might be a custom, my guess is that it is the next Squadt release proper; we'll update you as we learn more. **UPDATE** according to Vinylgoddess, keeper of all things Circus Posterus, she tells us that this figure is named "Fr0g"... very fitting to say the least.

"Street Art — The New Generation" featuring Invader, Toasters, Slinkachu, Dolk and many more

"Street Art — The New Generation" is a new, multi-site exhibit at the Pori Art Museum, Finland. Inside the museum, the London-based group Toasters have painted wall & window works (as shown above) and their film Everywhere is being shown in addition to the videos Pavement, by the Iranian brothers Icy & Sot, and Living Decay, made by Davide Fasolo and documenting the street art of Dolk & Pøbel on buildings ear-marked for destruction in their native Norway. Slinkachu is displaying photographs & lightboxes of his miniature figurine street art and Invader is showing mosiacs & portraits he's created using Rubik's Cubes.

Both inside the museum, outside the museum and around the city, their will be several pieces by street artists on display. Some names? Blu, Dolk, Magda Sayeg (of Knitta, Please), C. Finley, M-City, and Mentalgassi. Several Finish street artists will also be displayed, including: Bujahuli, Egs, Frank, Jussi TwoSeven, LA-Tino, P.A.Roni, Otto Maja, the Finish-Swedish artist Anton Wiraeus, and Lapro & Xeugux from the Multicoloured Dreams collective.

The new Japanese-American pact: Secret Base x Spongebob Squarepants… x-ray style

This particular version features a deep red color which was achieved by chemical oxidation, and then it was finished off with a gloss coat! There are only 5 of these and each will retail for $1500 with a release date set for 7pm PST on February 18th! If interested, these can be picked up HERE at the previous mentioned date/time! I personally really dig the contrast on this colorway, and how cool is that oxidation effect. Kuso Vinyl continues to put their full support into the guys over at Rotobox as they have just officially announced the release of the next figure in the Rotobox family, "Revolver Girl"! Above are some test pulls of this new figure and as you can see, the figure itself is based upon the Celsius platform with some modifications... some sweet "pigtail" hair to be exact!

As you can see, this figure has been in the works for quite some time now... or at least that was the plan even before their Celsius figure was produced, "Revolver Girl" along with "Celsius" and "Fahrenheit" graced the pages of many illustrations! Kuso tells us that they expect to have a special colorway release of this figure at SDCC 2012 so be on the lookout for future updates!

Following up yesterday's post regarding Teodoru Badiu's Wippo platform, Circus Posterus grant us a sneak peak at more than just the 3D renderings by the amazing artist… we have images of cast versions. So (obviously) the sculpt and molds are done and figures have actually been cast. By the looks of the pic, approximately 120 pieces have been made; no word if that is the final limitation of the first run or what colorway/colorways these will be appearing in. All I know is, I'm excited to get one and they can put my name on any pre-order list they might have!

The resurgence of the Mini-MAD*L?!?!?!

For those of you who have been in the designer toy game for some time now, you may remember back in 2006 when MAD released a little teaser poster (below) promoting the release of a 2" tall MAD*L blind-box series... well due to pricing, production and other unforeseen circumstances, these were never produced. Now, MAD has been trying to revive this project in one form or another, and has had a few mini's released - in metal HERE by Fully Visual - but nothing other than those limited releases have been seen... until now!

Just posted up via MAD's Instagram account today is the top photo of a 3D printed mini-MAD*L with the caption “Ready for my meeting tmrw...”, and what could this mean?!?! Will we finally see these produced in vinyl, will they be made more limited again, say in resin... all is unknown at this point, but once we find out more info we will let you know! I am really excited for this... now to find more shelf space :-)

Steve Seeley x Giant Japanese Monster, Bad! - Resin "Inaction Figures"

David over at 'Giant Japanese Monster, Bad!' just sent over some awesome info about a project he has been working on with Steve Seeley... and in fact, made its debut at Steve's latest solo show titled "All We Ever Do Is Fight" which opened at Rotofugi on Friday, February 10th! Giant Japanese Monster, Bad! did the casting and color choices for the figures for the show, with the concept coming from Steve and he "made" the figures from mashed up action figures and original sculpting. The figures have no articulation, thus the "Inaction" name... hahaha!

The blue pearl and pink pearl were each an edition of five exclusive to the show at Rotofugi and sold out at the show opening. Steve will also have "Primer Grey" Bear Fighters and "Primer Grey" Horse Fighters available directly from him... which a date has not been revealed just yet - these were protos shown at the show. David over at 'Giant Japanese Monster, Bad!' tells us that he has a couple exclusive colorways for the Bear Fighter and the Horse Fighter up for grabs right HERE now, and you have your choice of "Green Pearl", "Yellow Pearl", and "Purple Pearl" for the Bear Fighter which are an edition of five and are only $40 each, and a "Glow in the Dark" Bear Fighter for just $50. Teodoru Badiu's Wippo from Circus Posterus

Teodoru Badiu has been busy crafting 3D renderings of his iconic bone horns on hyper-cute, strange pony creatures called Wippos. Circus Posterus will be releasing figures of the Wippo shortly, which purportedly already has a sculpt done and molds cast.

But what colorways will materialize? In the very top image you can see Badiu's conceptualized OG Pink and Dark editons, while right above are the newly "released" Cool Blue and Sweet Cherry. Regardless of what colors actually see the light of day, I think we can all agree that this is one artist and creation to watch!

Jason Freeny's CAPSLs are almost here… Toy Fair 2012 Sneak Peek!

It's been roughly a year since Jason Freeny announced the platform of toys — entitled CAPSLs — that he'd designed in secret and Jailbreak Collective would be releasing. In November, Freeny updated people saying that all the designs were done and that production was being started. And this weekend, as seen below, we get our first peak at the finished product courtesy of Toy Fair 2012. While the picture is not crisp, it is clear that there are at least 10 different CAPSL figures displayed there (one of the boxes is blanked out, so I'm not counting it). Freeny had promised more information today, so expect release date and prices to pop-up shortly.

Insa bring it to the streets… in a really big way.

Insa, the UK-based designer best known for his mixing of art, fashion, graffiti and fetishism, has decorated the streets of Birmingham recently… and by the streets, we mean Birmingham's Custard Factory high-rise building. Insa's instantly recognizable style of smooth outlines and eye-popping solid fills is sure to attract attention for quite a distance as it decorates several floors of this building in one seamless design. Typically his work is photographed with a scantily clad woman in front of it, but I guess the 50-foot woman wasn't available for a photo shoot this time around.

Tomoo Yamaji's transforming robot sculptures... are back, and are just as cool as before!

Remember our post HERE about artist Tomoo Yamaji aka HENGE from Japan and his rad transforming robot sculptures... well he is back with his amazing mech like transforming made to order designer robots... and they are looking flashy as ever! The ones on display are titled "h040103 Fast Mercy (Gold/Blue)" and "h040201 Fast Mercy (Black/Gold)" and these figures are around 10" tall, are made from polyurethane resin, and retail for around $385 a piece.

He mentions that the main inspiration for these works is the idea of a "highly agile bodhisattva" helping people who have hit hard by events like the huge earthquake and tsunami occured in Japan back in March 2011. These works express the up-to-date bodhisattva that moves faster to bring mercy and relief to people. Pretty awesome!!! RECAP "Year of The Dragon" group art show @ Dragatomi 02/11/2012

On a whim, I loaded up my truck with all the necessities (sleeping bag, clothes, Uncle Dave) and took off from San Diego to surprise all of my friends up in Sacramento for the opening of Dragatomi's "Year of The Dragon" group art show! Even though the show was in California, we had some really cold weather come through, but that did not stop the fans from coming out to see all the spectacular pieces in the show which featured works by: Carson Catlin, DrilOne, Daniel Fleres, Gatchabert, KingQuan, Jeremiah Ketner, Chris Ryniak, John"Spanky"Stokes, Jay222, Leecifer, Jackie Gallagher, Podgy Panda, Helena Garcia, Betso, Chauskoskis, LilJapan, Skinner, Jared Konopitski, Philip Lumbang, Ritzy Periwinkle, J★RYU and Valleydweller. Oh, and the best part is... a ton of said artist above actually came out to the show... so it made for an amazing evening!

The show itself was an open platform show, meaning all the artists involved were able to use anything they wanted... sculpture, custom vinyl, resin, 2D work, mashup's, but they had to keep one thing in mind when creating their artwork... they had to make sure it kept to the "Dragon" theme... making for an interesting, diverse show, and as you can see from the above pictures there were some awesome pieces... and one of the best parts about the show was seeing some of those little 'red dots' show up, indicating sales! There were some good times had, and what a great turnout. All the unsold pieces will be up for grabs HERE very soon, and if you are in or around the area, swing by the gallery as this show will be on display until March 3rd, 2012. New customs from Rsin... are AMAZING!!!

Hot damn... Rsin has been a busy little bee as of late and got some new customs under his belt. According to Rsin, everything that you see above was either a commission or has since been sold... pretty rad news if you ask me! As you can see he tackled yet another Skullhead custom, his 3rd to be exact, he customized yet another 8" Dunny with his rad "Whisper" theme, he painted up a brand new Nerviswrek "Nibiru Prototype X" resin figure, as well as a super sweet Rebel Ink. He also mentions that the 10" MAD*L pictured above was his donation for the Army of Snipers Little Lotus project... phew, a ton of work indeed! What's new with THARP... a ton of stuff, that's what!

So we just got a HUGE update from Jason aka THARP, who has been keeping himself super busy... not only with custom vinyl, but with a few other projects as well... so without further ado, away we go! First up is his custom "Boom Boom Bunny" Labbit, which by the way is the first Labbit he has ever customized! THARP tells us that this "Was a great project with A LOT of space!! The nice thing about this was the owner let me do what ever. Once colors were picked it was fun filling up the space with characters. My favorite part to do was the ears. I love how they turned out. Cool to see the multi-character style translate to a larger piece. Look forward to doing more projects like this." I am too!

Next up is a very interesting project titled "Sir Bentley" where THARP was asked to paint a valve cover for a car. According to THARP, Sir Bentley (named after the owner) is the "fashion" valve cover for a Honda race car. It will serve as a ornament to show off the engine after the race. He goes on to say that "What made this project a lot of fun was in both doing something new and I'm pretty sure there won't be many valve covers like this." I think he is right on that... and how cool did these turn out!?!?!

Last but not least is a new project he is calling "Big T"... which by the way is just that... a BIG T! Is it a "T" or is it a club? You make the call. THARP tells us that there is not much of a story behind this other than that he wanted a "T" for his studio... rad! He is also heading out to Vegas next week to take part in the MAGIC tradeshow for Ohiya. During the show he will be painting daily from 11-1 in the VIP area. He will be filming this and sharing as well, and THARP will also have a fun 6 piece project to soon go up for sale on his site HERE... tons going on for sure!

Murakami retrospective opens at the Qatar Museum

Takashi Murakami has a retrospective show, entitled "Murakami — Ego," that opened yesterday at the Qatar Museum. The exhibit, which will be up until June 24th, includes paintings, sculptures, and video installations spanning the artist's career as well as some new material… including the much talked about inflatable replica of Murakami himself, as shown above.

This will be following up last year's sensational sets by DrilOne and Leecifer, seeing Ryan put his distinctive ty_po/typographical style on the ever popular Android platform. ServeEm & Jon Walsh's Blind Custom Munny Trade

Last year, artists ServeEm and Jon Walsh made a pact to create a custom Munny for the other & do a blind trade of the results. ServeEm's piece, shown above, is entitled the "Gremlifly" because it is part Gremlin and part butterfly. I think we can all agree that the paint and sculpts on this are absolutely outstanding; makes me really want to track down more of his work on the KidRobot boards, which he haunts under the username ServeEm.

Jon Walsh isn't a slouch either, as you can see below. His custom, "The Incredible," is like a bio-mechanoid Hulk nightmare. Solid sculpting and amazing brush work making the metal look fatigued. The inconsistent green of his skin does throw me off a bit, but I will certainly admit that it provides some tonality to the overall affect. Gearing up for the upcoming "Year of the Dragon" show this weekend at Dragatomi in Sacramento, Los Angeles based artist Ritzy Periwinkle shares with us today her rad submission titled "Toki Sode Dako: Ryu"! Seeing as this show was and open platform show, Ritzy thought outta the box and actually customized a Japanese Kite Kit which was originally designed by Kite master, Mikio Toki. Ritzy tells us that she used both regular and metallic acrylics on this functional kite that comes with kite line and winder to let her roam the windy sky. What an awesome idea, and how cool did this turn out!!! Something outta the ordinary... and I like it!!! Gary Baseman gets his Polaroid on

"Instant Revolution," the first in a series of shows organized by The Impossible Project to commemorate the launch of Polaroid Classic line, opens tonight at the Projects's NYC Space. The exhibit features the photos five artists who captured moments on the last original Polaroid Spectra film production run, circa 2008. The artists? Actor James Franco, fashion icon Maripol, documentary photographer Mary Ellen Mark, cult still photo artist Jennifer Juniper Stratford, and… Gary Baseman?!? Yes, the Gary Baseman.

As seen above, Baseman treated the project like a mixed media piece and — strangely — his work flows seamlessly in with the other contributors. Baseman has commented that he wanted to use the camera like he originally did in the 70s and 80s, as a means "to capture an immediate memory" and as a means towards "truth-finding and free expression."

KAWS invades Atlanta's High Museum with Down Time

KAWS's "Silent City" triptych being installed at the High Museum of Art

KAWS appears to have "Down Time," or — at least — that's the name of his upcoming exhibit at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA. This exclusive show is a multi-site installation, including a 22-foot-tall mural painted in the Margaretta Taylor Lobby of the High’s Wieland Pavilion and a 24-foot-long triptych, entitled "Silent City," in the Museum’s Robinson Atrium. The event will also feature a grid of 27 round paintings, a group of KAWS toys, drawings, and a collaboration between the artist and British photographer David Sims. KAWS's sculpture "Companion" was installed in the Museum's piazza last year in preparation for this show.

Pobber Toys and MAD have teamed up for an awesome figure drop, and I got my hands on the first release of this rad "MORK" figure set... and figured, why not review them... so away we go! Above is a LIVE review we did where MAD and Jake of Pobber Toys joined in on the conversation, so give it a watch so you can see all angles of it! First spotted at NYCC 2011, and released in very limited quantity at the myplasticheart booth... prisoner '816' & '913' better known as the Mork twins are some of MAD's best work to date. Not only do these figure have some serious style to them, but the folks over at Pobber Toys did an outstanding job with the production of these figures... I mean some serious crisp lines, clean packaging, and an all around great consumer experience.

Both figures stand at 6.5″ tall, have5 points of articulation, and feature a rad pot/bucket helmet accessory!
