WHAT'S NEW

*REVIEW* Jason Freeny x Mighty Jaxx - XXray Sticky Monster Lab "Bigmon"!

The U.K. distributors over at HEO.com sent me some of the figures from the Jason Freeny and Mighty Jaxx 'XXray' series to take a closer look at, and this is one the of the first I got chance to spend some time with. This figure is also a collaboration with the team at Sticky Monster Lab who are a creative force of artists from South Korea, you probably know their work but may not know the team behind some of the most iconic design work to come out of South Korea over the past 10 years.

With the creative teams combined to produce an iconic range of art toys in the shape of the XXray series, the "Bigmon" figure doesn't disappoint. As you can you see from the photos this piece has a great deal of character (as per the original concept from Sticky Monster Labs) and has been delivered with the same level of quality as the rest of the XXray series. I also like that these SML figures are a departure from the larger licensed based releases on the XXray platform that make up the majority of the catalogue. Its good to distort the expected with something a little more obscure and eye popping from South Korea.

Constructed from PVC, this 4" high figure looks MUCH better out of the box in our opinion - we know others will disagree - and the colors really pop nicely. This is one of the few XXray figures which comes with a small stand (there may well be others we have missed), and that is clearly explained by the fact that this is a top heavy piece because of its shape. As with all work from SML the characterization is strong and this is a very animated figure who looks like he is about to ask you a difficult question - a really endearing but no doubt mischievous figure.

This is not a new piece by any stretch of the imagination, and the XXray series has established itself far and wide as one of the most sought after art collectible series globally. It's nice though to get this guy in hand, and take some pictures in the sun so you can see exactly what you get for your money. We have others from the series to review and will be posting these over the coming weeks. Thanks again to HEO UK for providing product for review.
