WHAT'S NEW

*Review* The Nightmare Before Christmas - Funko Super ReAction Figures!!!

The people at Underground Toys sent me the new figures created by Funko and Super7 from the Nightmare Before Christmas ReAction range so I could review them. I got to spend some time with them and put some words together on my thoughts about these figures. The film has become a cult classic and is straight from the marvelous and whimsical mind of the genius that is Tim Burton. If you haven't had the chance to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas then please do, you won’t regret it.

Clown with the tear-away face
This guy doesn't appear for long in the film, but when he does he is usually demented but always jolly. When he tears his face off he reveals darkness and disappears in a puff of smoke ! He has a unicycle that has a mind of its own at best and always has a beanie on his head...this guy takes odd to a whole new level.

The figure from the ReAction range is utterly charmingly sculpted and the separate unicycle comes with its own brick textured stand. Funko and Super 7 have achieved a really superb level of characterisation with this tiny figure and even managed to put in some articulation on the arms and legs. Can take some balancing on the unicycle (probably just me), but once it's in the right position it looks great and stays in place.

Oogie Boogie
Now this guy gets Halloween, and is more than annoyed when Jack decides to mess with the format. Made from a burlap sack filled with insects his entire reason for existing is to fill the dreams of humans to the brim with horror. Basically this is a psychopathic purist who just wants to get on with his mission in life.

ReAction have nailed this figure so well with the texture and finish, he even feels all wrong but so right. With articulation points on the head, arms and legs you can pose this figure easily in scenes with other figures from the Nightmare Before Christmas ReActions range. The nicest touch with this figure is the inclusion of Sally’s dismembered leg. Oogie Boogie has a thing for Sally, so that’s not weird right ?

Shock
One of Oogie Boogie’s boys (despite being a girl), Shock teams up with Lock and Barrel to create as much mayhem and mischief as possible. If you think Shock is loyal to you, then you're wrong as the only thing she is loyal to is causing as much misery and trouble as she can wherever she can.Despite being the one that comes up with the plans she also makes mistakes, including kidnapping the Easter Bunny instead of Sandy Claws.

This figure from ReActions is our favourite of the group. Shock is a wonderful sculpt with great characterisation and some wonderful accessories. She comes with her mask, a catapult made from bones and totally charming cat in a box. Again the team at Funko & Super 7 have really gone the extra mile on what is a relatively small figure.

Santa Jack
With every good intention in the world of bringing joy rather than terror to the children of the world, Jack under estimates many things and causes nothing but panic in the minds of many of the children he encounters on his way to spreading Christmas joy at Halloween. If only he had listened to Sally and her premonition.

Santa Jack comes with his bag of presents and his list of children to deliver to. This is the main character of a wonderful film and again the characterisation for such a small figure is nothing short of staggering. These figures are averaging out at 3 ¾” high and the previous wave of the Nightmare Before Christmas figures from Funko ReAction have proved to be the most popular of all the ReAction figures released so far.

Pumpkin King Jack
This is the real deal, the one who travels to the real world to scare us all at Halloween. Appearing as a Wicker man at the start of the film and swallowing a flaming torch he re appears as the jubilant King of Halloween and sets the tone of the now classic cult film right from the get go.

Pumpkin King Jack comes with the obligatory flaming torch and has articulation on his arms, legs and head. The classic pumpkin head is very finely sculpted and there is great detail to the texture on his trousers as well. If you're going to buy one figure from this range, then it has to be the main man Pumpkin King Jack !

Wolfman
This is one grizzly, scary dude who is part man part wolf. When he isn’t under moonlight he may well be a regular man, who knows as the moonlight is a permanent feature.

With one of the strangest characters from the story comes one of the strongest and most accurate sculpts from the ReActions range. The figure ships with a tremendous logging saw and stands well on its own as a figure but works really well in a group with all the other figures.

Buy these figures now (average price seems to be $9.99 or £9.99 in the UK) from online toy stores and your local specialist toy stores: http://www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk/http://www.toytokyo.com/
