Entitled "Cataver," this custom Trikky is for the Jinxed's Munnyworld show happening next month. Crafted by Tamara Petrosino, who does the graphic design work for Brutherford Industries, I love the simple yet brilliantly funny take she has on the platform. Participating Artists Include: 64 Colors, Rsin, Ryan Rutherford, Tamara Petrosino, Valerie Gudell, Erica Hesse, Ed Vazquez, Kyle Collins, Pocket Wookie, Allison Harvard, Matt Anderson, Mike Ski, Dave Weeks (The Airrat), Ronnie Bullets, Jason Goldberg, Rob Kraiza, Matt Siren, Yis Goodwin (Nosego), Delirious, Chris Holt (The Toy Viking), Mike Die, Heather Gargon, and Brian Hoffecker.

Shadoe Delgado's "Miniboss" custom Munny

Shadoe Delgado is at it again with another custom. This is a 4" Munny that he is calling "Miniboss", and it's the 5th in his ongoing series of Shadow-ling creatures! Unfortunately he has already sold, but you can find his companions via his online shop HERE! He tells us that he had a lot of fun playing around with the antlers and building up washes on the mask... and as you can see he introduced a new medium (crackle paste) and the result... well, it look sooo rad! I love how these figures really come to life, and with each custom that we see from him, they keep getting better and better!

JFury's custom Chuckboy Dunny is a cyborg, chainsaw-wielding clown!

After a bevy of more tribal themed custom pieces, JFury returns to the clown design that made him famous… or, at least, he does so at the behest of a collector who commissioned him. The above piece, a customization of the ever-fun-to-play-with Chuckboy 3-inch Dunny, has a wonderfully sculpted chainsaw hand on his cyborg half as well as a sculpted balloon for the second ear. Overall, it looks fantastic, though there is something "off" about the skull on his chest… maybe if it was outlined in black it would gel better? I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem to fit quite right to my eye. We're hearing that JFury will be doing a custom Dunny series in the near future, but you should still feel free to contact him about commissioning a piece of your own!

Designer Toys 101: What is a Qee?

If you are new to this column, it is truly meant to be read from the beginning to the most recent.
Please start with the first installment, "What are Designer Toys?"

You may recall several installments back that we discussed the Munny platform, a base design that can be hand-painted by customizers into a unique figure, as well as the Dunny platform, which uses various applications at the production level to make a horde of versions available. Now we'll discuss the Qee, which is sort of a merging of the two ideologies.

The Qee (pronounced "Key") is generally considered the first platform figure, with the Toyer version being introduced in 1999 by the Hong Kong-based company Toy2R. Though, like the Munny, Qee is actually a family of figures each with a slight manipulation of the base form:

Most are obvious interpretations of anthropomorphized animals (Bear, Cat, Doggy, Monkey, Bear, and Bunny) with the Toyer being the only true exception. The Toyer is a humanoid form with a cartoonish skull head, which has become the iconic logo for the company as well. There are further versions of the platform, like the Knuckle Bear Qee and the Egg Qee, but those shown above give you enough of an idea.

Qees are generally 2.5-inches tall and are packaged with an optional keychain accessory, though there are Qees in other sizes: 1.5", 8", 16", 36" and even 60". You can buy Qees that are pre-designed, either within the company or by outside artists, usually sold in a blind box format. But one can also buy completely blank do-it-yourself Qees, meant for artists to create customs out of. Based on the success of the Qee, a wave of asian companies begans producing their own platforms; though most, like the Qee, used a body design similar to the LEGO figure. But it's always good to know who started the trend, right?

Next Week: Who is Huck Gee?

Designer toys used in this week's column are all designs produced by Toy2R.

Will the MonsterPants & Sucklord film "Villain" happen? It's up to you!

You might recall the announcement we made regarding the movie "Villain," directed by Mr. MonsterPants himself — James McKenney — and set to star The Super Sucklord. But, in the aftermath of certain events, the future of this film seems uncertain…
We launched our VILLAIN Kickstarter campaign on the evening of July 18 and raised over $1800 the first day. A month of days like that and we would have more than reached our $50,000 goal. But then some real life lunatic loosely modeling himself after a comic book villain walked into a showing of a Batman move and murdered 12 people. The pledges stopped and many our associates, concerned that pushing a movie about real life villain project soon after the tragedy might be in bad taste, became reluctant to promote our campaign.I haven't addressed this issue publicly because there's obviously no real connection, thematically or otherwise, between our film and the horrible events in Colorado. Our film is about a serial killer who hunts down the "real life" superheroes of New York City. He does not harm innocent "civilians" and he doesn't use guns or explosives in any way.But the damage is done and I don't think that things will improve in the two weeks that we have left to our campaign unless we do something to change that.
So if you'd like to see "Villain: The Hunter of Heroes" happen, please visit their Kickstarter page and donate whatever you can.

REVEAL: Tristan Eaton x Vannen Watches's Breaking Bad Tribute Watch!

Now in it's fifth and final season, the AMC television show Breaking Bad — about a chemistry teacher turned crystal meth cook — is going to be paid tribute in the form of at least one art watch from Vannen. The high-end manufacturer has teamed-up with legendary artist & toy designer Tristan Eaton and Breaking Bad fan art site Breaking GIFs to produce a limited edition timepiece entitled "Containment" that every fan of the show will want. I certainly expected it to incorporate three elements: transparent blue, a hazy fog of yellow, and periodic table symbols… But, as you can see below, it doesn't! It went way more cool and cryptic then I could've expected… and we even understand that the reverse of the watch features the Heisenberg stylized skull logo (shown up top) engraved into it.

Mike Strick's custom "K-Rex" Dinosaur Kracka for Dragons show!

A thundering sound in the distance, a cup of water being jarred by tremors, another thundering sound, a terrible roar… Quickly now, run! Jurassic Park has been breached! The "K-Rex" is loose! And yes, it does say "K-Rex" and not "T-Rex"… The film's most iconic clashing of dominant species, Tyrannosaurus and man, has been brilliant recaptured in the above diorama by Mike Strick. Created to be part of the "Dragons" group custom show, this piece started out life as a Kidrobot Kracka Munny, which should clearly indicate to any on-looker just how far this was remade!

"Dragons" will have a launch party on August 18th from 6PM to 7PM at The SHO Gallery, The Coach House, 1A Inverness Place, Roath, Cardiff, CF24 4RU, UK. After the launch, all the pieces will be placed up for seven day auction on eBay, with all proceeds being donated to DiabetesUK.
Participating artists include: A Little Stranger, Alto, Blue-Frog, Cheo, Cris Rose, David Stevenson, DMS & Neese, Dr Barbados, Emily Bee, Fark-Fk, Felt Mistress, Flatties, Graffiti Life, Hoakser, Inkbotz, Jim Freckingham, Jonathan E, Jon-Paul Kaiser, KeziArt, Lex, Lisa Rae Hansen, Lunabee, Map Map, Mark James, Mark Treharne, Matt JOnes, Mike Strick, Mimic, Michal Miszta, Mr Lister, Pete Fowler, PJ Constable, Planet Domu, Run DMB, Sneaky Raccoon, Squink, Stae, Stu Witter, Taylored Curiosities, TMH, Triclops Studios, UME Toys, Uncle Absinthe, Zombiekel, Zro Toys, and Zukaty.
