*REVIEW* TADO x MATHMOS - "Chuppi" the LED DIY FIG... funny how that worked out!

We revealed, and posted up HERE a great interview about "Chuppi", the new art toy that was created by with the folks over at TADO and MATHMOS... which by the way if you have not read yet, what are you waiting for... but I digress... more importantly why have you not picked up a Chuppi for yourself?!?!?! I know... it's so much to ask, for you to pick up an awesome DIY art toy that lights up, right??? Wrong!!!! These are so cool, and everyone should have one, and if I am not convincing enough... check out that LIVE video review above that I put together showcasing this figure!

I was totally stoked to have one of these sent out to me from MATHMOS... and the kicker, they sent out a beautiful customized Chuppi by TADO themselves... SWEET!!! This odd little figure comes packed with 100% cute... in only a way TADO could create, and the best part is you can get involved with this figure in a really cool DIY kinda way. One of the really cool things about the figure is the LED inside that actually holds a charge for hours on end... and the color changing is seamless! I would totally recommend snagging one of these up, and like mentioned before, watch that video above to see this product in action. So go now, head on over HERE and pick one up for yourself... and then thank me later :-)

Tristan Eaton x Thierry Henry - Art/Soccer collide at Madison Square

Legendary soccer star and New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry, paired up with modern, pop artist Tristan Eaton and Red Bull to create a giant interactive art piece... and above is a really great video showcasing the entire thing. From concept to completion this turned out fantastic and it's really cool to see Tristan making it BIG, and doing big things. He truly is a super creative in our scene! Watch above as Thierry Henry's targeted shots set off a series of engineering contraptions that paint, spray, push, pull, spill, etc., creating a giant (24' by 21') mural work of art inspired by the City of New York.

Vinyl Thoughts 3 group art show... is ramping up!!!

The folks behind the MASSIVE "Vinyl Thoughts" art show are busy planning the third incarnation, and it's a little more than a month away! Launching on September 15th, the theme this time around is "Drawn Together." They've asked artists to draw inspiration from anything illustrated... that includes comic books, graphic novels, cartoons, animated films, patent drawings, cave drawings, etc. On top of that very open ended theme... the artists were also asked that they pick different decades for each of their pieces. The lineup of artists is HUGE and features work from across the US and around the world. Over 50 artists will be participating in the show... which is looking to be pretty EPIC. To stay up to date with all the happenings for this show, visit their website HERE, and their Facebook page HERE. More info very soon!

Phu's "DATA" iPhone 4s dock cruiser

What seems to be a trend in making functional customs, artist Phu! shares with us today his latest creation. Titled "DATA", this custom created vehicle type figure not only looks awesome, by doubles as an iPhone 4s charging dock... how friggen rad! One thing that always grabs me is the amount of objects used in his pieces... - Cardboard - Corrugated fiberboard - Found objects - Plastic rivets - are just a few of the things I spotted, and the weathering applied to the piece looks rad! This piece has already found a home... but I am sure if you are looking to snag up a custom from him, you can work something out!

FOE First: limited-edition, Otaku-inspired, giclee print release... is eerily awesome!

FOE’s first giclee print release perfectly captures the gallery’s aesthetic. The vibrant colors and clean lines were well-suited for the flat, color-soaked giclee prints produced by the experts at Evolv Fine Art Printing. The signed, numbered edition of 30 is printed on archival paper that measures 8.5" x 11" image with a white frame making the final piece 11" x 14"! Tomoo Yamaji's transforming "h040303 Fast Mercy" sculpture!

Tomoo Yamaji — also known as HENGE — has crafted the wonderful one-of-a-kind resin cast "h040303 Fast Mercy" sculpture, pictured above. What makes this special is that it actually is able to transform from a flying form to a humanoid form. The figure reprsents a "highly agile bodhisattva" (a heroic being of enlightenment and wisdom) and it is available HERE to purchase for ¥38,000 (approx. $485). Want to see it transform? Of course you do… and that's what the following video is for!
While this is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece, HENGE does use the same base design with varying paint applications… so this is the only one in the gold and blue shown, though other colors of the same figure do exist.

Ilanena x Rampage Toys's The sofubi Ugly Unicorn with the Blythe Doll eyes!

This weekend was the massive Wonder Festival 2012 [Summer] gathering, and while the focus is "garage kits" there has been a rise in the neo-kaiju designer toy presence over the last several years. Jon M. of Rampage Toys was in attendance, sharing booth space with the Grody Shogun himself, Luke Rook, as well as Velocitron mastermind Ricky Wilson. Now imagine Jon M.'s surprise when Ilanena showed up, a run of the above pictured "Girly Ugly Unicorns" in tow. Giving the sofubi figure more of an "80's vintage style," the piece had a simple neon spray for coloring but was modified to have Sparkly Blythe Doll eyes affixed. The end result, wonderful…

And while this was a surprise Wonder Festival exclusive, Jon M. made sure to put some aside for his international fans… The remaining pieces are currently going "first dibs" style to his mailing list followers for $45 each, but we're sure they'll make it to the Rampage Toys online shop in the next couple of days.

Josh Marlar's custom “A Demon’s Song” for Miss Zukie's group show!

Josh Marlar's custom 4-inch Zukie, for the upcoming "Zukie vs. the World" group show, is a wonderfully demonic avian-creature entitled "A Demon’s Song." This insanely remade creation is supposed to be a "bird-like messenger of the dead world who has been cast out and robbed of it’s wings. Now shackled with hooves, voices are its direction and fear is its offering." Love the thorough re-sculpt, which transforms the Zukie platform into something wholly Marlar's own… and brilliantly so.

"Zukie vs. the World" opens tonight (July 27th, 2012) with a reception from 6-10PM and runs through July 29th at Toy Toyko's TT Underground Gallery, 91 2nd Ave., New York, NY 10003. Participating artists include: Adam Pratt, Alarment, AW177, Benny Kline, Blazon Birkhaus, Brian A, CashCannon, Chris Moore, Cyberphunkk, Davemarkart, Davidkraig, Ian Chapman, James Fuller, Jasin Dollin, Jeff Beck, Josh Marlar, Josh Mayhem, Ken Ziobro, LEWNATIK, Melodreama, MikeDie, Miss Zukie, Mr. Den, OsiRisORion, Scott Kinnebrew, Shawn Wigs, Tasha Zimich, Travis Lykins, VIOLENT CRATCHIT, YoMi, Zam Art, and Zukaty.

Brutherford's custom Trikky "Munny" for Jinxed group show!

I'm not really sure you can call the above pictured piece an actual Munny custom, but this skeletal interpretation of the Trikky design is certainly amazing! Scott Kinnebrew's BlackMetalBeard custom Jon-Paul Kaiser Captain Sturnbrau!

Sailing the seven seas, head nodding rhythmically to the crashing sound of guitars, Scott "Forces of Dorkness" Kinnebrew's "BlackMetalBeard" takes his Norwegian metal music as seriously as he does his plundering! Extensively re-sculpted, from the obvious (his "devil's horns" hand gesture) to the subtle (the skull on his belt buckle), Kinnebrew completely transformed the Jon-Paul Kaiser designed Captain Sturnbrau into a unique piece.
