Tell Super7 & The Loyal Subjects about UME Toys's Transformers sculpt!

Richard "UME Toys" Page has been working this fantastic sculpt of "Soundwave" from the classic Transformers cartoons. Now, I'll be honest, since both Super7 and The Loyal Subjects had announced (HERE and HERE) Transformers-based designer toy lines, I was really hoping that this might've been a sculpt for a production piece from one of the two but I did realistically realize it probably wasn't. I grew up watching Transformers and, while I love that these two high-end companies will work with the license, I do seriously wonder how either of them will make iconic fresh enough that I'd want to buy it without deviating too far from the beloved original designs… Honestly, I'm thinking Page is the answer; I'd buy a production piece based off this design in a heartbeat. What do you think, readers?

Preview of Gallery1988's "Crazy 4 Cult" group art show in New York!

Adam Limbert's above picture art piece most certainly is meant to reference Snake Plissken's initial outing in Escape from New York, but it might be more apropos as a reference to the poorly received sequel, Escape from L.A.… since, as we previously announced, the sixth installment of Gallery1988's "Crazy 4 Cult" art exhibit will take place in New York City instead of the venues typical California locations.
The art series focuses on works inspired by iconic cult films, like the Back to the Future print by Jayson Weidel (above left), The Professional interpretation by Veronica Fish (above right), and Fred Harper's painting of Fight Club (bottom left). Of course, the pieces don't have to reference a single movie, as Jason Edmiston's painting (bottom right) — which is also used for all the advertising art — clearly shows; everything from The Warriors to Robocop, King Kong to Aliens, They Live to Akira, Ghostbusters to Star Wars, Blade Runner to Back to the Future, are fair game in his single piece.
"Crazy 4 Cult: New York" opens on Thursday, August 9th from 6-9PM and runs through September 1st at the Gallery1988 NY Pop-Up Store, 64 Gansevoort St., New York, NY 10014.

PJ Constable's custom "KidClops" Kidrobot Mascot Bot!

PJ Constable's "KidClops" is the customizers first attempt at manipulating the Kidrobot Mascot (or Bot) platform, which I think he did a more than admirable job with. Lots of seamless sculpted elements, including those elongated arms, that all fit perfectly. To me, personally, the distended cycloptic eye looks strange — not quite housed in a socket in the skull, not quite affixed to an eyestalk — but that's completely an individual taste thing. The only failing I do notice, though, is the heavy paint lines around the base of each sculpted "Liberty" mohawk spike; surely the result of trying to clean up some stray splotches for appearance, those lines are quite heavy. Otherwise, this is a fantastic piece that one lucky Bot collector commissioned!
*** UPDATE *** We've been informed by Constable that he's actually working on fixing those lines, so consider the above a work-in-progress rather than completed. Apologies for the confusion.

Banksy's Olympic-themed street art pieces in London!

Despite proclamations that any graffiti found on the streets of London would immediately be immediately buffed (destroyed or covered up), the world famous street artist Banksy has unveiled two new Olympics-themed pieces. While their locations are being kept mysterious for the moment, it won't be long before passersby notice "Hackney Welcomes the Olympics," which portrays a javelin thrower about to unleash a missile (above), and "Going for Mould," showing a pole vault over a barbed-wire fence and onto a dirty mattress (below).
