Gary Baseman x The Loyal Subjects's "Kostopol Warrior" signing & release!
The Buckingham Warrior is an extension of the very DNA which comprises Gary Baseman. The allegoric and somewhat fabled character is inspired from the real world deeds of his father, Ben Baseman — a local resistance fighter in WWII, thwarting back pockets of Nazi storm troopers. Kostopol is the name of the town in what was Poland, now the Ukraine, where Baseman's mother was born. She, along with very few others from Kostopol survived the horrors of the Nazi occupancy.Limited to only 250 copies in this edition, they will be on sale starting Friday, July 13th at 2PM in Bait's SDCC Booth #4429. Baseman himself will be on hand to do his first Buckingham Warrior signing, so stop by and say "hi" while you pick up one of these amazing 12-inch tall figure for $120.
Designer Toys 101: What does Kaiju mean and what is it?
If you are new to this column, it is truly meant to be read from the beginning to the most recent.

If you've ever seen (or at least know what) a Godzilla film is, then you already know what kaiju is. Some people would argue this example, but — to be honest — it is accurate. Kaiju is a Japanese word that means "strange creature" and was originally coined to describe movies and television shows staring monstrous beasts that were modeled after conventional animals, insects, household items, pretty much anything. One of which, the most famous of which, most certainly is Godzilla. Hit the jump to continue reading for the full explanation…
As I said, the term comes from the Japanese entertainment industry, particularly that part known as tokusatsu (trans. "special filming," which meant to imply any film or television show that relied heavily on special effects). These tokusatsu films were divide into three main categories:
- yōkai (trans. "strange apparition," which indicated supernaturally based productions including ghosts, demons, or the sort);
- kaijin (trans. "mysterious person," which indicated super-human masked individuals… think either super-hero or super-villain based); and
- kaiju (which we've already discussed).
So how do you identify Kaiju Designer Toys? The simplest method I can use is this: close your eyes and imagine the figure as a giant, rampaging through city streets, wreaking havoc in it's wake. Now have it fighting Godzilla. Did it look like it fit? If so, it's safe to call in Kaiju.

Rotofugi SDCC 2012 previews... part 2
As promised in our first post HERE, the folks over at Rotofugi have a ton of things planned for SDCC 2012 this year and below is the rest of their exclusives that they plan on releasing during the con. So not only do you get a chance at all the great stuff we posted about HERE earlier this week, you can snag up the goodies that you see below!!!
Do you love the design of Rotofugi's new Roto-a-Matic figure, the Helper Dragon, but long for something more permanent? Boy have they got something for you then! Produced in an edition of just 5 pieces, the Helper Dragon Bronze was designed, sculpted and produced by Tim Biskup and stands 5.5 inches tall. The Strawberry Eyescream S.O.L.E.M. is cast in delicious light pink vinyl with a dark pink spray and teal blue eye and will be available for $60 each (tax included) at the Squibbles Ink + Rotofugi booth (4736). Figure designed by Joey Potts and sculpted by Chris Ryniak, with paint design and execution by Joe Somers (Squibbles Ink) and Kirby Kerr (Rotofugi).
This one has been a long (and we mean LONG) time coming....meet Helper Dragon by Tim Biskup, the very first Roto-a-Matic™ figure! Helper Dragons stand 4.75 inches tall and are made of blow-molded polyethylene wax. They will be $6 (tax included). If you'll be attending SDCC, Tim Biskup will be doing a signing in our booth (Squibbles Ink + Rotofugi #4736) on Friday from 1-2pm. If the Rotofugi folks are unable to make more Helper Dragons prior to the start of the convention, Helper Dragons will first be available during the signing... but if they can get the machine working again tomorrow, they make more and they'll be availalbe every day... and how cool is it to see this finally in operation! Conceived as both a vinyl art figure and a trophy for winners of the Triple Crown of Yo Yo, the TCM is gripping two yo-yos and is ready to throw! Standing seven inches tall (and eight inches wide!) the Triple Crown Monster is manufactured and distributed by Squibbles Ink + Rotofugi and is hand-painted in the USA in small, limited editions.
