Troy Stith x Mark Nagata - "Yuudoku" figure header card revealed... along with wax cast and resin prototype!

It appears that Troy Stith has been quite busy lately... with a very BIG project as he has teamed up with Mark Nagata of Max Toy Company to collaborate on a brand new figure dubbed "Yuudoku", which was sculpted by Troy... how cool is that?!?!? Troy goes on to share with us that with the help of his friend Marc Fulton, they finished Yuudoku's header card last night for his upcoming release, and as you can see... something toxic is coming our way, and below is a little backstoy about this beast!!!!
"Born off the Coast of Kikorman Island, Yuudoku lived a happy life among the reefs in the crystal blue waters. He enjoyed being surrounded by his friends and providing housing for them and their kin. All of that changed when greedy tankers began dumping toxic waste into the pristine waters. While no one knew these dastardly deeds were being committed, the results began to change and warp the once pure waters of Kikorman Bay.

Left with the choice of fleeing to cleaner waters or death, Yuudoku’s friends began to disappear. The tankers eventually moved on to spread their filth elsewhere, but Yuudoku’s friends still fled. It wasn’t the boats that they were afraid of anymore, it was him. Yuudoku had mutated into a hulking tentacled beast. His body that was once a home had become a poisonous wasteland. Plumes of toxins spewed from his back, making it impossible for his friends to be close to him without endangering their lives. He found himself alone; radiating with angry despair. Yuudoku vowed revenge against those who brought this dismal fate upon him."

Oh, and check out what was also released today... photos of the resin master as well as a quick shot of the wax sculpt. Although these pics were taken before it was cut in half, and the tentacles were held on with clay just for the pics. Troy mentions that Yuudoku will be articulated in both tentacles and at the waist. His eye will be removable and will come in a whole slew of color variations as the different versions are released. This is a great looking monster... very Hedorah'ish, IMHO... and I can imagine all kinds of customizers going to town on this figure.

"Preston T. Pinkerton" Qee's from Scott Tolleson

Well look who is getting another production Qee... none other than Scott Tolleson, and this little bugger is a few months late in terms of an Easter release, but my goodness will "Preston T. Pinkerton" brighten up anyone's day this summer! "Mr. Pinkerton to his close friends, is the most intelligent and lovable hare in all the forest. He enjoys wearing his lucky pair of magic spectacles while skipping about on his many adventures. Wind him up and watch him hop and your joy for Mr. Pinkerton will never stop." Toy2R keeps pumping out some really gorgeous pieces, and it helps that they get some great designs submitted by folks like Scott!

As you can see this bunny features a whole array of pastel colors, a little grunge, as well as a "Glasses" version that not only adds some spectacles, but also changes up his outfit! Oh, and if one colorway with a variant wasn't enough, there is also the very blue "AniQee" version which also features a "Glasses" version that not only shows off his spectacles, but that variant has a nice bushy mustache as well... RAD!!! These are set to drop in late July, and will retail for $28 a pop! Look for them in most all designer toy shops worldwide.

Super7 2012 Lucky Bags... update & contents reveal!

As we previously announced, Super7 released their 2012 Lucky Bags during the "11th Anniversary Party" they held this past weekend. It appears that they have either a new batch or a few remaining, as Super7 will be releasing Lucky Bags on their website HERE on Thursday, June 14th at 12 Noon PST. Each will cost $300 and contain 9 figures, which will include everything from custom hand-painted pieces to unpainted test shots & prototypes to brand new sculpt debuts! But that's not enough for you, is it? You want to see what is actually in one of these Lucky Bags, right? Well, thanks to Flickr user Savage Freaks, we can post pictures of eight of the figures in one of these very Lucky Bags… but be warned, if you don't want to see them and plan on being surprised... don't click through.

Let's start off with a couple of favorites with unreleased colors: Mummy Boy in an unpainted light blue, an unpainted pink Foster, what appears to be a glow-in-the-dark Pocket Baseball Boy, and a lime green Rose Vampire DX with red cape.

A glow-in-the-dark green version of the Frankenfighter figure?!? Absolutely cool.

Oh my! The Taoking, from the Geof Darrow & Frank Miller comic Big Guy & Rusty the Boy Robot, looking way more intricately painted than the normal "comic yellow" release… I'm guessing this is a one-off hand-painted custom. But it's beautiful!

Whoa there, that's a brand new sculpt debut! Yes indeed, a collaboration between Brian Flynn & Marmit we're told. Though we don't know the name yet, you know you want one already… But wait, there's one more. Why didn't we end with the new sculpt reveal?

YES! An unpainted version of the Toby Dutkiewicz (aka Devilboy) mash-up between Super7 and LEGO, or specifically the Rose Vampire figure in this instance. Can this possibly mean that the release of these are on the horizon? I've been waiting so patiently for them…

Don P's "KidDanger" custom Kidrobot Mascot for Sekure D!

In the aftermath of doing the Battle of the Mascots series together, Don P was asked — by Sekure D — to make a custom with his normal flair, "cracks, damaging, dirt and pipes." In obliging the request, Don P created the 7-inch tall "KidDanger" custom mascot pictured above. I love the worn and weathered look, tons of amazing little details that seem to make the finished piece look 'just right.' And outstanding job all around. And while this piece isn't available, you can always contact Don P yourself and commission a custom.

Martin Hsu at Disney's WonderGround Gallery Grand Opening!

Artist Martin Hsu was part of the grand opening event for Disney's WonderGround Gallery in Downtown Disney. Hsu created two original cel vinyl on wood painting for the space, both of which are pictured below alongside image detail pictures:

The top piece is "Mickey’s Blossom of Dreams," a 36" x 24" painting whose "blooming of cherry blossom represents millions of dreams around the world coming true as Mickey and friends bring magic into the lives of those who believe." Below that is the Finding Nemo inspired "A Sweet Home for Nemo," which details a wonderful warmth within it's 18" x 24" frame.
Hsu was also on-hand for several hours signing exclusive prints and doodling on Vinylmation figures, some of which are pictured above. Overall it seems like an amazing event and — hopefully — something Disney will continue to grow.

Designer Toys 101: What's a Munny?

If you are new to this column, it is truly meant to be read from the beginning to the most recent.
Please start with the first installment, "What are Designer Toys?"

Slowly but surely you're hopefully learning about this community, so let's start putting what you know together: we've gone over, in very broad terms, what a Designer Toy is and figured out what Blind Boxed means, so let's look at a Blind Boxed Designer Toy… the Munny. Hit the jump to read the full article.

Munnys are a Designer Toy platform (base design) that are released by a company named Kidrobot. It gets tricky in that when people talk about Munnys, they might actually be talking about any of five designs that are part of "Munnyworld":
The "Munny" proper is made to resemble a man, the "Bub" is a stylized hippo, "Trikky" is a cat, the "Raffy" is a giraffe, and "Rooz" is meant to be a baby kangaroo. But they are all considered Munnys. It's weird, I know. They are all made out of vinyl, with easy to detach arms and heads (except the "Raffy" who doesn't have arms). They are all available in two heights: 4-inches tall (the Mini Munny) and 7-inches tall (the regular Munny), but the proper "Munny" figure also has a massive 20-inch tall version! And — as was previously mentioned — they are all sold Blind Boxed. You can choose which 'character' out of the five you want, but each one comes with a random accessory… like a hat or a baseball bat.

But the part that probably immediately caught your attention was this: they are all blank white (though there are some Munnys in other solid colors). Munnys are what are called Do-It-Yourself (or DIY) Designer Toys, but that's a topic for next time…

Next Week: What's a Custom?

Designer toys used in the example set are:Munnyworld characters all produced by Kidrobot

Peter Kato's new Two-Toned resin kaiju editions!

Peter Kato swigs into action, making some new editions of his Turtle Tetsujin and FrightBite kaiju creations… and these "Two-Toned Metal-Fusion" figures are double cast (in two different clear resins) and then painted with metallic colors! On the left, we can see the "Blue-Orange Turtle-Tetsujin" with that wonderful "Little Pea" character on each of their bellies. According to Kato, "this figure shows how Turtle Tetsujin's anger is rising and is changing from his cool blue nature to a hot orange 'mad' state. Little Pea doesn't approve of the Turtle Tetsujin acting out in anger, so this piece is representing that relationship between the two." I see what he's saying, but what matters more is that it is a really cool looking piece… though there are only six of them, so that's gonna be a tough one to snag before it sells out. And on the right we can glimpse the "BlueStreak FrightBites," limited to only 8 pieces, which uses two tones of clear blue resin to create a depth effect. Both figures will be released on Thursday, June 14th at 6PM EST in Kato's online store, with the Turtle Tetsujin costing $20 each and the FrightBites going for $15 each.
