*REVEALED* Kidrobot Black x Ron English - "America Depress" Art Toy

After the many teaser pictures, speculation, and doubts about the next Kidrobot Black figure, we are seeing the full reveal of the next sculpture in their 'Black' line as pop-artist Ron English brings a new 2D painting to life with his upcoming KR Black art figure titled "America Depress", and according to the site, this massive piece of vinyl will be 12" tall, limited to 200 pieces worldwide, and will carry a $400 price tag! Oh, and just like we assumed, the piece will feature Mickey Mouse "Crucified" on a credit card... just like his OG painting, except we see now that this piece features a black/gold color scheme! Now, I may be swayed because that color-scheme is my alma mater, but I love the color combo!!!
"Pop iconoclast Ron English presents the ultimate black vinyl fetish item – American Depress. A three dimensional depiction of America's Bloated Billionaire Mouse Messiah is crucified upon the mousetrap status symbol of American capitalism: the Black Card. The over-stuffed mouse is splayed on a 12-inch tall sheet of black ABS, embellished with gold printing. The card numbers reference the beginning of the royal rodent’s reign, and, a very short time after, the darkest hour in the history of the American economy. From there both iconic rodent and consumer grow to obesity until the card’s expiration date - the day of the foretold apocalypse. Fitted with an indent on the back, this modern relic is built to be hung over all we devour."
So now that we know all of this info, and have seen the figure... what do you think. I initially really dug what I saw, and it appears to be a very massive piece, my only gripe now is the reproduction of the 2D to 3D... the figure itself is much more bulbous that the OG painting (to the left), and I am not sure if I dig that. Also, I think this figure would have been a better fit as a full color figure... imagine that! Mickey pinned to an actual fully embellished green credit card wearing his red shorts... that would be rad. Also, $400 does seem a little steep... but damn that piece is LARGE. This is by far a much more sculptural piece then the rest of the KR Black line-up, and it looks like it will fit in your collection as a pretty epic wall hanging piece. So, what are your thoughts on it now that you have seen the full reveal, I would love to know your thoughts. Oh, and if you are in the NY area, remember that Kidrobot New York will be hosting semi-private event on May 29th, 2012.

The Hole was buzzing, folks drunk on Fafiness, schmoozing and peruzing amidst the pour paintings by Holton Rower. TADO x 2000AD x Unbox - "JUDGE DEATH" plush

First spotted at London's Toy Fair 2012, Unbox Industries unveiled a new plush figure which was created by UK's own TADO... but it's really not what you think. In 2007 TADO created their unique take on "Judge Death" who by the way is a fictional character of the Judge Dredd universe recounted in the UK comic 2000AD! Well, this awesome looking plush figure is set to drop very soon as it's up in the Unbox online store HERE for just $13 a pop! I remember when this was first announced back in 2008, there were going to be 2 sizes... the one you see above is around 8" tall... but it is rumored that they were going to make a large 20" version... hopefully this is still in the works. More details when this actually drops, so stay tuned!

J★RYU's "Invicta" custom Androids for Dragatomi's SDCC 2012 custom Android blind-box series

Alright folks... what kinda tom-foolery do we have here? Is it magic? Is it voodoo? Nope, it's just J★RYU slaying another few customs!!! This time around Jesse shows off his customs for the upcoming Android blind-box series that Dragatomi is putting together for SDCC 2012... and no your eyes are not deceiving you, that "Ghost Girl" is really floating inside that Android figure!!! Titled "Invicta" - which is Latin for undefeated - Jesse created 5 of these bad boys, all of which will be randomly inserted into custom made boxes and sold for $80 a pop. There are going to be over 50 pieces in total for this series, from over 25 different artists... so at least you all know that you have a 5/50 chance of getting one of these amazing customs.

I know what you are thinking... "how did he do that?", well if you need more proof that Jesse sold his soul to create these, he sent over the above video for us to post... and as you can see, these are the real deal!!! Oh, and not only is that floating 'Ghost Girl' super impressive, check out how each one has a tiny sculpted skeleton inside as well as some very intricate filigree on the tops of each figure. Amazing work as always from Jesse... the only problem now is that this just leaves us wanting to see more customs from this series!!!!

Carson Catlin's custom Munny for "They Came From The Streets 2"!

Named "futz," artist Carson Catlin tells us that this custom Raffi "was a way bigger task than I thought it would be. That's why it's called futz," which is meant to mean "f***ing nutz." Created for the upcoming "They Came From The Streets 2" group custom show, I love how the thread cascades off of the horn stubs and the intricate spiderweb mesh that it creates both inside & out. Another beautiful cut & sew piece from Catlin, to be sure.

"They Came From The Streets 2," organized by the guys of Urban Vinyl Daily, opens on June 1st at UNHeardof, 323 W 4th St., Cincinnati, OH 45202.

64 Colors to do a wooden version of Gumdrop, Marshall's puppy companion?!?

The husband and wife duo known as 64 Colors issued the above teaser picture and maybe I'm crazy but that certainly appears to be a small legion of Gumdrops — the wonderful puppy — done to match the previously released wooden Marshall figures. Assuming our assumption is correct, the wood version does look bigger than the 1.75" vinyl piece… maybe around 2" or 2.25" tall. A quick head count reveals at least 10 pieces have been made, which is inline with the Maple Marshalls, so price point will probably be similar ($125 each). As soon as anything is official, we will update you. **UPDATE** We are told that these measure 4" tall and will have laser etched graphics!!!

Jason Limon's custom 8" Atropa Kidrobot Dunny is slick & beautiful!

Fans of Jason Limon's creations know that his fantastical creatures reside in a far-flung future where a ravaged planet fights back, plant life melding itself with mammals in order to survive and sustain. Thus is the world of Limon's hugely popular 8" Dunny known as Atropa… and this custom of the production piece evolves the lifeform even further. Simply called "Atropa Dunny CV.1 (custom version.1)," Limon has beautifully sculpted embellishments onto the head in addition to the skull chest and the wings. And, obviously, the paint job is immaculate… lots of tiny detail work that all looks perfectly placed and expertly executed. While there's no official word on availability, I'm guessing this will be part of Limon's "The First Of…" line, appearing in his web shop on June 1st.

Mone's Stitch the Cat custom Munny for Kidrobot's Munnyworld Contest!

Italian artist Mone shared some pictures of his newest entry for Kidrobot's Munnyworld Contest, a custom 7" Trikky entitled "Stitch the Cat." Inspired by his girlfriend's cat — and made as a gift for his girlfriend — "Stitch" has tons of sculpting to accomplish that textured fur look as well as that wonderful whiskered face and paws. Though, for me, it's the tongue captured in mid-lick that truly puts this custom over-the-top. If you enjoy this piece, then you can comment & vote on it HERE for the Munnyworld Contest.
