La Luz de Jesus Gallery presents "FaShow" a solo show from Los Angeles based GERMS!!!

You may all know the name Jaime Zacarias aka Germs because of his rad vinyl figure that were produced by Mindstyle back in 2007, well this born and raised Los Angeles native has not had much vinyl made since then, but he has had some seriously amazing art show... one of which is opening Friday, June 1, 2012 at La Luz de Jesus Gallery!!! GERMS' most recent body of work is titled "Fashow," a term which affirms an unspoken agreement between the artist and the viewers of his work to look at the familiar as filtered through the mind of GERMS and see something never before seen."FaShow", also meaning "for sure" is a play on words gives the artist total freedom to use the space as a playground.

Says GERMS, "I find myself mesmerized by the seemingly infinite details and borderline infectious behaviors of each character I create, while striving to transform and challenge the traditional interpretations of the icons we all know so well." The viewer is drawn into a complex layering of cultural references; comfortable and familiar, often times playful and childlike imagery, which may, however, mask the dark and sinister - but which is imbued with an innocent sense of "anything is possible" in the World of GERMS. If you are in or around the Los Angeles area... this show will surely blow your mind, and if any of the pictures we posted in this article are an indication of what you can come to expect... well, get ready!!!!

Amazing "Muse Robot" custom MAD*L by Sevren

A while back we showcased HERE the work of David Ten aka Sevren... and were blown away by his rad Stempunk style and approach to customizing vinyl figures. Well, today we are stoked to be showing off his latest work, and he called upon the help of a 10" MAD*L for this go-around. Titled the "Muse Robot", David really went all out assembling this massive piece... and if you look closely at it, you can see all of the intricacies that went into its creation. Mixed with the kind/subtle paint application along with the harsh robotic inner workings... this custom has it all.

The backstory of "Muse Robot":
This Muse robot was the best vocalist of her day. She was the only successful prototype of the Muse development program. Programmed specifically to listen to the world and the beauty around for use. She sampled and recorded sounds that happened her way, mixing them into something beautiful for all to enjoy. That was until a rival music bot company sliced off her face. The Muse bot, however, survived the attack. She refused to get her face plate welded back on as she discovered that it stopped her from her true potential. With the plate off she is now able to emit sounds capable of mass slaughter. She's a shell of her former self, bent on revenge.
David tells us that he used sculpy, copper wires, wood and a lot of patience to complete this piece... and it shows. He goes on to mention "I first sliced open the MAD*L and figured I'd fill it with sculpey pipes. I had to cure the sculpey with a heat gun. Once that was complete I had to paint the whole inside black. and then copper to create the pipes This step is the worst because paint gets everywhere and I have to repaint sections constantly, not to mention wait for it to dry." If you are in love with it like I am, you are probably wondering where/if it is up for sale... and you are in luck because David just posted it to his online store HERE... so go pick it up! I am really floored on how this turned out, and I look forward to seeing more custom from David... how about you?

More news on that Kidrobot Black x Ron English figure... "America Depress"

Kidrobot Black has just updated their site... and per our post last month HERE, we are seeing a whole new angle to the next sculpture in their 'Black' line... oh, and we have much more info to go off now!!! Pop-artist Ron English brings a new 2D painting to life with his upcoming KR Black figure titled "America Depress", and according to the site, this massive piece of vinyl will be 12" tall, limited to 200 pieces worldwide, and will carry a $400 price tag! Oh, and just like we assumed, the piece will feature Mickey Mouse "Crucified" on a credit card... just like his OG painting... and all we have to go by is that very cryptic silhouette above. KR goes on to explain:
"Pop iconoclast Ron English presents the ultimate black vinyl fetish item – American Depress. A three dimensional depiction of America's Bloated Billionaire Mouse Messiah is crucified upon the mousetrap status symbol of American capitalism: the Black Card. The over-stuffed mouse is splayed on a 12-inch tall sheet of black ABS, embellished with gold printing. The card numbers reference the beginning of the royal rodent’s reign, and, a very short time after, the darkest hour in the history of the American economy. From there both iconic rodent and consumer grow to obesity until the card’s expiration date - the day of the foretold apocalypse. Fitted with an indent on the back, this modern relic is built to be hung over all we devour."
So now that we know all of this info... the only thing we don't really know is what this looks like. I personally can tell you though... I have seen the piece, and it's really impressive! This is going to be much more sculptural then the rest of the KR Black line-up so far... and do remember that Kidrobot New York will be hosting semi-private event on May 29th, 2012... and seeing as this is just a few weeks away, expect the full reveal with more info soon!

Luke Chueh's custom Munny for "They Came From The Streets 2"!

Witness the simply brilliant take on the Kracka that Luke Chueh does here: exploiting the hippo-esqe form by making it into, well, a hippo. A hungry, hungry hippo. Sorry, I couldn't resist… but that's surely the jest Chueh intended when you made the stylized script "Hungry" tattoo on the piece's backside (right above the perfectly sculpted tail). This custom is for the upcoming "They Came From The Streets 2" group custom show, which we'd previously announced HERE, and the wee bird with his bumhole & drippy poop might be a scatologically simple joke but it still makes me chuckle.

"They Came From The Streets 2," organized by the guys of Urban Vinyl Daily, opens on June 1st at UNHeardof, 323 W 4th St., Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Contributing artists include: Frank Kozik, Scott Tolleson, Gary Ham, DrilOne, Eyeone, 64 Colors, ValleyDweller, Steve Talkowski, Rsin, Lunartik, VISEone, Task One, Luke Cheuh, THARP, Nerviswr3k, Ian Ziobrowski, Abe Lincoln JR., Scribe and Alisa Ross, Squink, A Little Stranger, JFury, Jon Chase, JC Rivera, Maxx242, Chase Tafoya, Chris Brett, Dez Einswell, Terribly Odd, Jason Gallo, and Cache.

DrilOne's custom canvas pieces for the Urban Decay 3 show!

For the upcoming "aesthetics of urban low-brow art" show Urban Decay 3, DrilOne has made these two canvas pieces. The centerpieces appear to be a couple of his hand-cast & hand-painted resin magnets (you can find them in his online store), which means that I'm guessing these are 4" x 4" canvases. On each one, the painted backdrop does it's job perfectly, allowing the resin piece to truly stand out and leave an impression.

"Urban Decay 3" opens on June 1st with an opening reception on the 2nd from 5-11PM. The exhibit closes on June 24 and can be viewed until then at Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Road, Lorton, VA 22079.

Participating artists include: Kathie Olivas, Travis Lampe , Scott Radke, Kevin Gosselin, RSIN, Gregg Deal, Jeremy Gann, Camden Noir, HKS181, Matt Anderson, Gabriel Pons, Carlos Aguilar, Graham Franciose, Tyler Coey, Betso, Bryan A. Collins, Daryll Peirce, Jesse Smith, DrilOne, James Walker, Asad ULTRA Walker, Jack Labadie, Sylvia Ortiz, Kenny Brown, Kevin Murphy, JC Rivera, Kevin Rodrigue, Nick Zimbro, Drew Storm Graham, and ElStabo.

More Pics of Ferg's CHIPP S004 [Fort Burnout] Squadt!

Ferg has released a couple of new pics of his upcoming "Chipp S004 [Fort Burnout]" Squadt, which we'd previously discussed HERE. These teaser photos clearly show the two lens sets this figure will come with (yellow and dark grey) and gives us a nice shot inside the Boomer K11 companion's head… Is it just me or does that look like the Playge logo on the endcaps of the explosives? Chipp S004 will be released on Monday, May 28th at 12 Noon CST and — we're assuming — the set will be limited to 200 copies at $115 each.

Menace Inc. Studios's custom H.P. Lovecraft Cthulhu Munny!

Jeff Beck of Menace Inc. Studios has created this 4-inch-tall "Lil' Cthulhu" custom Munny for the upcoming "Friendly Monsters Show" at Smallwall Gallery. There's no doubt that the sculpting is solid, with the ropey protuberances, tentacles, and barnacles all looking spot on, and the paint job matches perfectly. The fishy bug eyes are superb, probably the highlight of the custom for me. The only point of contention I feel the need to mention is the naming: this is closer to the typical Deep One design to anything resembling Cthulhu, whose trademark facial feature is a squid-like head which is completely absent here.

The "Friendly Monsters Show" opens on May 31st at the Smallwall Gallery, 18 West 1st Ave., Lexington, NC 27292.

Creo Design's "The Almighty Chebaka" Russian Vinyl Toy!

There is no word on pricing for this vinyl figure.

Planet Domu's work-in-progress ToyCon UK Exclusive resin figure!

Yes, ToyCon UK — England's first designer toy convention — is just shy of a year away… and it inspires such excitement that Sam "Planet Domu" Griffiths has already begun work on his exclusive for it! This massive piece, formed in seven pieces using 1kg of resin, we're told this "character is the overseer of the invading mother ships." Even with this large lead time, Griffiths is planning on only making a total of 10 of these: 5 Blank White/DIY and 5 "Artists Series" pieces. So smooth and cool looking…
*** UPDATE *** Griffiths informs us that these figures are roughly 8" tall and the belly alone is 4" wide (so even more when you count the legs). Amazing!
