Travis Louie's Stan Skelve at Circus Posterus booth during Spectrum!
Originally seen in a "Ghostly" white version during SDCC 2011, Travis Louie's "Stan" interpretation of the Skelve platform made a slight return during the Stranger Factory hosted Bewitching show (where the one-off custom cost $950). Now we understand that a limited number of a hand-painted version will be available at Circus Posterus's booth (#919) at Spectrum: Fantastic Art Live! event (May 18-20 in Kansas City, MO).
*** UPDATE *** The above picture Stan is a custom and not the version that will be available at Spectrum.
*** UPDATE 2 *** There will be only four custom hand-painted Stan Skelves available at Spectrum, so interested parties should run quick like a bunny to the Circus Posterus table to avoid disappointment!

KAWS's "Paper Smile" silkscreen print from the High Museum!
As we'd previously reported, KAWS currently has an exhibit entitled "Down Time" at the High Museum of Art. What we weren't aware of was that, to support the show, a limited edition silkscreen print entitled "Paper Smile" was being issued on May 11th. Part of KAWS's abstract Spongebob series, "Paper Smile" measures 25" x 20" and was produced in a strict edition of only 100 copies. Set to retail at $1400 each, we're unable to find any mention of them on the High Museum website… so either they were sold out immediately or — due to the price — this is more of an 'inquire for purchasing' scenario. Our apologies for only reporting on this after the fact and, for anyone that wants one, we wish you the best of luck!

*RECAP* The launch of Dudebox

This past week, across the pond, was a HUGE event that up until now has been a few years in the making... and now, all has been revealed and made public... the DUDE is alive, and well! Dudebox hosted a massive launch party for their brand new designer vinyl figures... and not only did they fully reveal to the public their massive lineup... but they also had on hand an amazing array of custom "Dudes" as well as some MASSIVE larger than life, hand painted figures that were scattered around the room!
Obviously, we here at SpankyStokes.com were not able to attend the event, seeing as it was in London, but our good friend Richard K. aka PodgyPanda was there for the opening night festivities and he sent over all the photos that you see in this post... thanks man! From a full line up of blind-box mini figures to larger production pieces, the folks over at Dudebox really pulled out all the stops for this event, and came out of the gates very strong! The figures that they have introduced are already showing great promise for customizers around the globe... rivaling, nay, giving artists a much needed new platform to test their skills on. Their online store HERE, is stocked with tons of product already, and we have been seeing stores here in the USA already getting Dudebox products in... so look for them in most all designer toy shops in the very near future. From the sound of it, this appears to be just the start, as they have much more stuff planned... and I'm ready... how about you? Hit the jump for many more photos from the opening night event.

UME Toys's Martin Longbottom the Third figure coming soon!
Rich "UME Toys" Page has teased us all with this fantastic sculpt, entitled "Martin Longbottom the Third." While some might say that crescent eye slits and top hats are overdone, I emphatically believe they remain cute as can be… and that belly button!?! C'mon now, it's too adorable for words… The most exciting part of this piece? Page is currently making a mold to make a limited edition resin run of it. So be prepared, Mr. Longbottom is coming and he's here to stay.

"As Seen On TV" solo show from TaskOne
TaskOne has been pretty quiet as of late... and you know what that means... he has been scheming up his next batch of customs and today we are stoked to be showing off a few of them for his upcoming solo show titled "As Seen On TV"... and no these are not those gimmicky ab-lounge, quick-chop devices! This show will contain a handful of customized Munny's based off characters from Task's favorite TV shows... and as you can see, above is a custom of Ron Perlman as Clay Morrow from FX Channels 'Sons of Anarchy'.
This show is going to be held at Plastic Chapel on Saturday, June 9th 2012 and will surely bring a smile to the faces of those that attend. Task has a great skill of really being able to capture the likeness of peoples characteristics in his sculpting, as we have seen from many of his previous works... so it was only fitting to take that to the next level and do a show! Above is another example of yet another piece he is going to have in this show as he created Bryan Cranston as Walter White aka Heisenberg from AMC's 'Breaking Bad'... HOW RAD! Stay tuned for more previews as he reveals them!

THARP & Teodoru Badiu's custom Dudes from Dudebox!
To celebrate the launch of Dudebox's "Dude" figure, the company asked several customizers to create something on the platform… and it looks like THARP had a lot of fun with it. There are tons of cute elements mingling and interplaying with each other to form the full design and it came out great looking. THARP even comments that he liked "that there was plenty of room [on the large figure] to make multiple characters and still maintain a overall main character" and it certainly appears he's 100% right.
And while THARP was at the London launch event, Teodoru Badiu was at Vienna's Sixxa Store for their party. Teodoru's custom has quite a bit of sculptural elements added to the base design but it still easily show's how versatile this simple form is going to be. While not as 'clean' as THARP's take, I like a lot of the elements in Teodoru's version: the pattern under the eyes, the heart-shaped plumage, the simply but wonderful beak. Needless to say, the 'Dude' is going to be a figure to watch…
