Hugh Rose's custom Munny for the Tenacious Toys x London Candy Company show!

While the upcoming "The Candy-Coated Custom Show" challenged customizers to make something themed with either candy and England, most have done the former. Finally, Hugh Rose steps in and does a strictly English themed one. And it is absolutely stunning! The title of this piece, "The Once and Future King," is a paraphrase of what is supposedly written on King Arthur's tomb… which is completely fitting as this custom 7" Munny is made to resemble both a knight's armor and the detailed decorations normally associated with a reliquary.

"The Candy-Coated Custom Show" organized by Tenacious Toys, opens on April 21st with a reception from 7 to 9PM at The London Candy Company, 1442 Lexington Ave. at 94th St., New York, NY 10128. The show will be available for viewing for two weeks after the opening night.

"PLAYSAM 500" custom toy art show 4/28/2012

What has been in the works since before SDCC 2011, and is finally in the final stages of preparation, a show being organized by Paul Greenwood titled "PLAYSAM 500" just locked down it's final show date along with a seriously impressive lineup of artists! Going down on April 28th in San Francisco CA at Super7's shop/gallery space, the "PLAYSAM 500" is a custom toy art show featuring 59 artists from 5 different countries, all of whom have been tasked with customizing the iconic Playsam Streamliner Classic, designed by Ulf Hanses, and in the end being sold off to benefit the World Childhood Foundation.

Like mentioned above, the artists involved in this show are some heavy hitters, and the artist list so far is: Andrew Bell, Arbito, Clayton Bailey, Dacosta, Super Cooper Berella, Beast Brothers, Betso, Kat Brunegraff, 64 Colors,Carson Catlin, Alex Dril, Tristan Eaton, Brian Flynn, George Gaspar, Paul Greenwood, Gary Ham, Nathan Hamill, Jay222, Walter Chauskoskis Jacott, Jryu, Jeremiah Ketner, Paul Kaiju, Aya Kakeda, Kill, Frank Kozik, Josh Herbolsheimer, Travis Lampe, Matthew Langille, Josh Mayhem, Sarah Lunabee Miskelly, Frank Mysterio, Motorbot, Ritzy Periwinkle, Plaseebo, Patricio Oliver, Task One, Dave Pressler, Reactor 88, Jason “Aka Big Money” Rodan, Cris Rose, Donald Scribe Ross, Ardabus Rubber, Skinner, Bwana Spoons, John”Spanky”Stokes, Steve Talkowski, Cameron Tiede, Scott Tolleson, Vise One, Ben Walker, Adam Washburn, David Miller Weeks, Julie West, Nicholas Woodworth and may others! UNKL dabbles in plush... with their UniPo's!!!!

The fellas over at UNKL are constantly exploring new mediums to display awesome creations, and their latest exploration of their UniPo figure is as a giant fabric plush! I really like the direction this is going, and I would totally rock one of these... that being said, I don't really know if I dig the cat face and ears as the figure itself would be epic with just the yellow dome/visor face as it would mimic their vinyl counterparts. This seems to be the very beginning stages, so I will keep you all up to date when I hear anymore news.

Mondo & Dan McCarthy's E.T. Poster for Alamo Drafthouse's "Summer of '82" event!

Pictured above is the regular (on the left, in blue) and variant (on the right, in yellow) editions of the screen printed poster for E.T. that Dan McCarthy designed and Mondo is releasing. It will be available at the Alamo Drafthouse's screening of the film on June 8th, with any remaining copies being available online at the Mondo web shop shortly thereafter. But, more importantly, this is part of the Alamo Drafthouse's "Summer of '82" event — which means if you live in the Austin, Texas area you should anticipate spending most of your Summer months at 320 E. 6th Street!
First of all, this just proves that 1982 had a TON of great releases in it. But, I suspect, it also indicates we'll be seeing a lot more Mondo Posters for some of these flicks…

Trust Pigs's custom "Clone Stripper" Star Wars action figure!

Much like my custom Sarlacc Pit Labbit, this is another piece from my recent solo art show at Dream in Plastic, which was entitled "I have a bad feeling about this." and featured only works inspired by Star Wars in some way. I don't think most people realize how much work actually went into making that backing board — which was crafted from scratch and hand cut-out with an x-acto knife — but also, due to the nature of a wall-hanging art show, folks didn't get to see the backside of it. And yes, I spent WAY too long writing up a backstory for the "Clone Stripper" figure, which is a Slave Princess Leia with a Clone Trooper mask. The piece is actually entitled "Clone-Tertainment" though, as I thought that was a funny little name. As of Saturday night, this piece had not been sold. You can view the entire show online HERE with ordering information, if you are interested.

Sawdust Bear's Hiveblob for Supahcute's show at Leanna Lin's Wonderland!

Shing Yin Khor, aka Sawdust Bear, has finished the first pass of paints on her Hiveblob sculpture (which we previously saw unpainted HERE). I'm still in love with the look of it, especially that wooden base with the Bleakberries that the Hiveblob craves strewn about it. This piece will be on display at the Supahcute Dream Team Show from May 12th to June 24th at Leanna Lin's Wonderland, 5024 Eagle Rock Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90041.
