Circus Posterus x Ferg's Playge Doctor Skelve re-release?!?

Ferg posted the above image to his Twitter feed yesterday and while it looks like the "Playge Doctor Skelve" from his Trigger show back in January, that seems a bit of a delayed posting. Could a second, more mass release version be upcoming? The platform was originally unveiled in the Rotofugi booth at SDCC 2011, marked as "Skelve Doctor. Circus Posterus x Ferg. Coming Soon!," so it isn't hard to imagine that a retailer edition of the figure is in the offering. But, once again, this could just be a pic of the limited edition one they released back in January and — for whatever reason — Ferg's only posting it now. Only time will tell…

Luke Chueh's "EXP FEB 22 87" for Virginia MOCA's "I Like Soup" Fundraiser!

In order to celebrate their upcoming "Andy Warhol: Portraits" retrospective and "Fifteen Square Inches Of Fame" group show, the Virginia MOCA have organized the "I Like Soup" charity fundraiser. For "I Like Soup," they've asked a variety of artists to reinterpret a soup can as a work of art, the results of which would be sold online with the proceeds going to help MOCA's educational programs as well as the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. Pictured above is Luke Chueh's contribution to the exhibit, entitled "EXP FEB 22 87" — which just happens to be the date of Warhol's death. Simple, lovely interpretation of the can… and a nice homage to the "father" of pop art.

"I Like Soup" opens on May 26th and runs through August 19th at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (VMOCA), 2200 Parks Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. Participating artists include: Lauren Alpert, Glen Arthur, Rashidi Barret, Monée Bengtson, Eric Thomas Bostrom, Heather Bryant, Diana Caramat, Amy Chan, Kris Chau, Nomi Chi, Luke Chueh, Doug Clarke, Bob Dob, Dominique Fung, Susie Gharemani, Christine K. "Whooper Looper" by Gary Ham gets molded!

So I bet you have all been wondering what the status is on Gary Ham's "Whooper Looper" figure that we spotted almost a year ago HERE at SDCC 2011... well this 6" tall amphibious creature that resembles the likeness of a salamander is in the factory as I type this, and from the above pictures, you can see the mold process is complete... and I am sure that they will be pulling vinyl test shots any day now! I am very anxious, as I am sure Gary is, to see the final result of this really fun figure... and hopefully there will be some up for grabs at SDCC 2012! I will keep you updated on the progress as it rolls in.

Trust Pigs's giveaway of Star Wars inspired prints on Trampt!

In addition to doing the current Free Goodie Friday here on SpankyStokes, I'm also running a contest on Trampt… Up for grabs are the two limited edition, signed & numbered 20" x 26" screenprints shown above as well as some sticker packs for runners-up. Details on how to enter are HERE, but the gist of it is that every time you use Trampt's Conversations feature to talk about one of the pieces in my "I have a bad feeling about this." art show portfolio, then you get an entry into the drawing to win. That simple. But you do need to join Trampt to participate.
All this is being done to hype up my "I have a bad feeling about this. The Star Wars inspired art of Nick Curtis / Trust Pigs" solo art exhibit at Dream in Plastic, which opens tonight and runs through May 6th. Mondo to release The Burning Moon on VHS?!?

Remember those ill-spent days (and nights) of your youth, when nothing was better than popping a horror flick into your VCR and watching it with a group of friends? Well, in the hipster-ironic manner that cassette tapes are making a comeback in the music scene, Mondo once in a rare while releases a horror movie on VHS. I know this is a bit outside the normal SpankyStokes wheelhouse, but I thought it might be a fun detour… Set to be released next week is VHS tape copies of the 1997 German film "The Burning Moon." From what I understand, this flick is portrayed as two nightmarish bedtime stories a boy is telling his younger sibling; though it culminates in a completely twisted ending and has one of the most brutal portrayals of Hell ever shot (that's what I'm told!). We're guessing that — like Mondo's previous VHS horror movies — it will be limited to 250 copies for $20 each. When made available, it will be in Mondo's online shop HERE.
