Shawnimals x C2E2...exclusives and more!

Shawnimals just announced that they will have a full booth #650 at this years C2E2 going down on April 13th-15th... and they are bringing the big guns for this one... so without futher ado, let's get down to the nitty gritty! First up is thier Pork & Bean C2E2 show exclusive. Their popular mini dumplings are taking on the form of the famous "Bean" made famous by internationally-renowned artist Anish Kapoor. The actual name of the real piece is Cloud Gate, but Pork Gate sounded weird, so the folks over at Shawnimals opted for Pork & Bean. The edition features a random-packed silvery "chrome" dumpling, either one with eyes (Pork) or one without (Bean). Limited to 50 pieces, $12.99 each, packed in a handy take-out container.
Pocket Staches are back! You've been waiting for a long time on this one, and Shawnimals is glad to have em back. This time around, their little Pocket Stache pals are handmade, a just a smidgen bigger than before. But they're still small and adorable, and are somehow packed with some serious machismo. Part of Shawnimals handmade Pocket Plush line, $12 each.
Oh... and for this show they are releasing a mystery Moustachio... named "Dreamstachio"... a bit more compact than their usual 'stachio offering (like Grampy Stache if you remember that one), but still a formidable stache. Bright, furry orange, with a magnificent white 'stache. Wow... Come see for yourself!
And how can you not notice "El Tornado" and "Junky Trunky", their newest Pocket Plush!!! El Tornado is the smoothest swirling mass of dust and debris you'll ever know, and Junky Trunky is quite proud of its large assets. Part of their handmade Pocket Plush line, $12 each. So as you can see they got a ton of stuff for all you hoodlums... so be sure to swing by the Shawnimals booth to say "What Up" and grab some goodies while you are there!

Brown Magic Paint Co. x Brutherford's metallic popping Ice Scream Men!

Just last week we showed off some amazing custom Ice Scream Men, the platform by Brutherford, and now there are more: this time by Brown Magic Paint Co. Instead of manipulating the base design, they've stayed true to it and simply made the whole thing pop with metallic colors. So simple yet absolutely beautiful. But the bigger question is: What's going on here? No doubt, the Ice Scream Man is a great platform but two customizers each delivering pieces in such a short time apart? Hmm… my spidey sense is tingling.

Most Wanted Art Show Teases: Carson Catlin & JC Rivera!

Last week we posted a very strange announcement for the Most Wanted Art Show and — we hope — enough time has passed that they won't mind us being a bit more clear on the matter. Above are two work-in-progress pieces for the show: one the left, Carson Catlin continues to kill it in his "cut line" style while, on the right, JC Rivera is building what appears to be a Dunny with 7 ears?!? Fantastic. Both figures appear to be 8" Dunnys and, we're sure, both will impress when done!

"The Most Wanted Art Show" will open on May 11th at the 1AM Gallery, 1000 Howard St., San Francisco, CA 94103.
Participating artists include: Art My Mind, Carson Catlin, Dr. Befa, Sergio Mancini, MuffinMan, Tim Munz, Nikejerk, PAUSE, JC Rivera, and RunDMB.

Toy Art Galery x Dave Flores - “Bad News Travels Fast”

I hope you are all ready for yet another EPIC show from Toy Art Gallery as they are proud to announce that they will be hosting Dave Flores in a brand new solo show titled “Bad News Travels Fast”! This exhibition will be showcasing his new design Deathead Mickey... which we first saw at SDCC 2011 in prototype from from BIC Plastics... and what better way to launch this figure than in style as Flores’s is set to reveal his unique rendition of a familiar icon in a variety of forms, from limited run t-shirts and prints to production vinyl toys to a five-foot tall life-size fiberglass sculpture... WOW!!!! “BAD NEWS TRAVELS FAST” opens Friday, April 13th and runs through April 30th... and there will be an opening reception from 7pm-11pm on April 13th with a DJ, drinks, and more. I know I am going to try to make it up for this show as it is going to be fantastic... just to see that 5' tall "Deathead" in person would be worth it to me!

Kevin Gosselin's finished "Amun-ny-Ra" custom Munnys!

Just last week we showed off the amazing new custom Munny series by Kevin Gosselin, a 10 piece run of "Amun-ny-Ra!" Above are finished pics of one of the pieces and we have some more info: It started life as a private commission that then — with the permission of the collector — was morphed into a 10 piece resin cast run. Each signed & numbered resin munny has been hand-painted for that weathered look, as were the accompanying resin bases. The bases are inscribed with Egyptian hieroglyphs: the obelisks read "1 Munny KidRobot, Kevin Gosselin, 2012" alongside the client's name and the base is inscribed with the words "Tell me why I had to be a power slave?"
There will only be 8 copies of this figure available for sale; they will be dropping in Gosselin's web store HERE on April 14th at 10AM PST with a price of $225 each. I'll be shocked if these aren't all snagged up within minutes…

The Beast Brothers x Huck Gee's 8" Royal Guard Skullandario Azteca!

Hot on the heels of the 8" Ivory Warrior Skullendario Azteca, the boys are back at it again! The Beast Brothers and Huck Gee have announced the next version of their 8" Skullendario Azteca custom: the Royal Guard…
Lining the gates of the palace is the illustrious
Royal Guard of the Azteca Empire.
Cast in solid gold, adorned with rare jewels
and crystals, and proudly displaying the royal flag.
Aside from the gold coloration, their are several obvious differences: no tongue on this version, the kanji atop the head has been morphed into a crystalline structure, the Swarovski crystals are purple instead of red, and the pattern on the flag is printed in purple instead of brown. Much like the originals, each of these hand-painted pieces will come signed by each artist and safely entombed in a laser engraved wooden crate. They will retail for $475 (plus shipping) each and be available for 24 hours starting on April 20th at 1PM EST exclusively at The Beast Brothers online store.

Fuller's custom Munny as Samara from The Ring movies!

Fuller, like me, is a big fan of horror movies. And, also like me, he has a fondness for The Ring franchise. I remember, back before the American remake, watching the Japanese films and the wonderful Korean remake… and trying to track down copies of the TV show (with subtitles). But let's face it, Samara (the spooky supernatural girl in the franchise) isn't really that scary looking… she looks like a wet emo or goth gal; what makes her frightening is her jerky movements and unexpected appearances (crawling out of a television set being the most memorable)… and that's where I fear Fuller's custom fails.

He did a spot on job recreating the static look of Samara, no arguments there, but she fails to instill horror. This 4" Munny needed a bit of the unexpected, something being off-kilter. Perhaps if she had been sculpted to be in a slightly contorted state… nothing too obviously, but something that made the viewer feel a tad uneasy without realizing it. 'Tis a difficult thing to accomplish and I certainly applaud Fuller for trying. The Samara 4" Munny is available in Fuller's web shop for $125.

FATAL's action figure mash-up of Toy Story & Star Wars!

We all remember those halcyon days when — as children — we first experimented… with customizing. C'mon, I think every kid has a moment when they realize they can remove a screw here or pop a head off there or whatever. In a sense, that's what FATAL has done here: kit-bashed some old toys together to create something new. The Buzz Lightyear (above) was made by taking the body of an R2D2 unit and affixing Stormtrooper arms & legs to it, then painting the result to match what he wanted.
Plus he's made some more copies of Lotso and Buddy, which we discussed HERE and HERE. Each of the figures is $75, but quantities are limited so interested parties should contact FATAL to reserve theirs as soon as possible: theadventuresoffatal [at] hotmail [dot] co [dot] uk.

Unbox Industries releases Jeff Lamm's Spikewad & Triclops's PeeNut!

While the rest of us were seeking brightly painted eggs, biting the heads off of chocolate rabbits, and watching mounds of cute chickadees be adorable, they guys over at Unbox Industries were hard at work. You see, yesterday marked the release of two major Unbox items: Spikewad and PeeNut.

As we announced HERE, Jeff Lamm's Spikewad was released in five colorways: Absinthe (glow-in-the-dark), Bloo (blue and red), Black Hole (black and silver), Claw (light blue, green and white), and Satsuma (orange and green). Each figure is approximately 6" tall and uses the same "pop and play" mechanic as Lamm's M5 & Star-Gee, meaning that the head, torso and legs all separate and are interchangeable between the various figures. Each Spikewad costs £28 ($45) and is limited to an undisclosed amount; they all come polypagged with a header card by Lamm.

And as previously mentioned HERE, the Triclops Studio's Mega B.A.S.T.A.R.D. PeeNut (shown above) also dropped yesterday. Available in three colorways (classic M.U.S.C.L.E. pink, lagoon blue, and Clops purple), limited to 200 copies between all the colors, this almost 8" tall vinyl figure comes in a polybag with a specially designed header card. PeeNuts will run you £28 ($45) each and, if they do well, we can only hope that more Mega B.A.S.T.A.R.D.s are forthcoming!

Both figures in their various colors are currently available in the Unbox Industries web shop.
