"Francis" the next 'Noseallot' plush from Scott Tolleson available at WonderCon 2012
Seeing as these new figures are not going to be “officially” released until after WonderCon... all you get for an image is what you see above... but I know that Scott Tolleson would like a little push, so away we go!!!! Check out his new plush figure that is part of his 'Noseallots' line of characters... named "Francis", this little know-it-all is looking quite dapper in his school boy outfit. Rocking a bowtie, glasses and hat he is coming your way in 2 colors and don't let his looks fool you... because under that smile is a fierce beast... well not really, but he does have horns :-) Scott will have both versions available at booth #185, and each will retail for $25 each. He also mentions that he will have the purple "Toy Break" version of his Chipster figure as well as other goodies... so be sure to hit up his booth to snag up some goodies!

Dead Hand Studios "Gread" Keychains
Above is exactly what you think you see... awesome hand-made, hand-cast resin "Gread" key chains designed by Brian A. aka Lysol of Dead Hand Studios! These little buggers are looking really great, and the most import bit of info you all need to know is that these will not be limited in any way. Brian tells us that he will occasionally have certain ones up for only a limited amount of time, like the two St. Patrick's Day colors (seen below) that are currently in the store HERE right now... they will only be available through March 17th, but most colors will always be around so you don't have to worry about them selling out for good.
There are currently 40 options available in the store as I type this... in fact, too many to list here, so head on over and give em a look! All key chains are $5.00 each + $2.00 flat shipping in the US and are available now... and looking AWESOME!

Vinyl Thoughts 2 exclusive sneak peek - Shell Meggersee Briggs's "Piranha Plant" custom
Yesterday we posted up HERE the 2nd of 3 exclusive teasers that we got for the Vinyl Thoughts 2 art show... and today we have yet another rad piece done up by Shell Meggersee Briggs. This custom seems to be made from scratch, as in there are no platform toys used as the base figure, and as you can see this "Piranha Plant" is preserved for all to see behind a classy glass barrier along with mushroom sidekick... really cool! This piece along with many other will be up for grabs and on display at "Vinyl Thoughts Art Show 2 -- The Next Level" going down this Thursday, March 15th at The Quixotic World in Deep Ellum in Dallas, Texas... don't miss it!

"Mekaleon" custom Dunny by ArtMyMind... is RAD!!!
Whoa... the art duo Guillaume and Julia Lachambre aka ArtMyMind from France have been busy once again creating amazing customs and this go around they are making one collector out there VERY happy as they commissioned ArtMyMind to do up a Chuckboy 2Tone Dunny... and above is the fantastic result! "The ancestral forest of Akukubahi is no more. Ravaged by centuries of war between two clans, the once luxurious Emerald canopy has long left place to a new jungle made of steel and concrete. Result of the race for the ultimate weapon, a new breed of soldiers has been created, engineered from the DNA of legendary heroes. Mekaleon is one of them." The amount of detail packed onto such a small 3" platform is seriously mind-blowing... and this custom just proves that these two are at the top of their game, one of the best customs I have ever seen - hands down! If you want a piece of the ArtMyMind pie, head on over to their online store HERE and snatch up a commission for yourself!

Leecifer's Bellicose "Bat" Bunny
Oh my... it's a bird, it's a plane... wait a second, that's not the right superhero tag line... how about "I'm Batman"!!! That's exactly who Leecifer thinks he is, or at least he stepped into this roll with his latest custom as he converted Nathan Hamill's "Bellicose Bunny" into a "Bat" Bunny for the upcoming "Bellicosity: The Bellicose Bunny Group Custom Show" which is going down on March 23rd at Toy Art Gallery. I am a huge fan of Lee's work and I love how he always finds a way to incorporate a little pop-culture in here and there along with his mastered dry-brush technique... oh, and how can I not mention the addition of those rad batwings and whiskers... great stuff! Don't miss this show as it will run through April 6th!

*RECAP* Angry Woebots "The Root of My Smiles"
Just this past week, Angry Woebots was up in the San Jose area for the opening of a new mini solo show dubbed "The Root of My Smiles" which was held at Cukui Clothing... and although I was not able to attend, SS.com reader and designer toy fan Pranay Parikh was on hand to capture the event with some great photos! As you can see, Woebots conquered a ton of hand-painted wood blocks... which look amazing all together up on the wall! He also did a few graffiti type pandas as well as sketches for loyal fans... as he always does! The show looked awesome, and if you are in or around the area be sure to check this show out in person as it will be up until April 11th, and if you can't make it... click HERE for more photos that Pranay took... thanks homie!

A Little Stranger's Zombie Bunnies series is as cute as it is frightening…
I'm always floored by the creations of Holly Stanway aka A Little Stranger; she has brilliant craftsmanship and an innovative take on everything she produces. For instance, look at these three Zombie Bunny commissions she recently finished… She had made a Zombie Bunny several years back and the buyer of that piece commissioned her to do three more. Needless to say, she completely nailed that delicate balance between cute and horrific that such a concept requires.
The faces are each hand-cast in resin before being painted for insane detail… the eyes are especially telling here. Then each body is made from black faux fur, with the completed figure being splattered — in a controlled fashion — with glossy red acrylic paint for that nice bloody effect. These beasts have even been carefully weighted down so that they can stand completely unassisted. While these might not be available, A Little Stranger is always open to commission requests; please contact her at hollystanway [at] gmail [dot] com if you're interested.

P.S.A. from Foo Dog regarding their 'MEGA' figure!
It has been some time since we have heard from artist Mo Abedin and his Dubai based company 'Foo Dog', but most recently he has been on a quest to clarify a few things about his "MEGA" DIY figure... and most of all kills the misconception that is a "Munny" rip-off. I will let their words speak for themselves as they go on to tell us "We posted the comparison image up because we kept on getting confused for the Munny by Kidrobot or even worse, being compared to a business that creates rip off versions of the Munny when we are clearly not. So we decided that it was high time for us to post a comparison image of MEGA and Munny standing side by side to finally kill this misconception. We've had this monkey on our back for the past year and a half and had finally had enough of it. A lot of the people overseas including bloggers in the toy world based their judgements solely on photos of MEGA and had never really even held the MEGA in their own hands."
"What we would normally do when we get such inquiries is to send the comparison image to that particular person and that pretty much kills that thought right away. Don't get us wrong, we love the Munny by Kidrobot too and have a lot of respect for them for their contribution to the designer toy world and hold them in very high regards. The bottom line is that we love and believe in what we do and that is collaborating with artists and spreading the designer toy love in our part of the world through MEGA and future versions of MEGA still yet to come." So there you have it, and although it has similar humanoid characteristics, one can draw the conclusion that the figures are two separate entities.

Motorbot's Hungry Video Game Console for Vinyl Thoughts 2!
The other day we posted some teaser WIP pics of a piece by Motorbot for the upcoming Vinyl Thoughts 2 show and — today — we have another! This mini video game console sculpt incorporates all the coolness of classic arcade gaming with the trademark teeth that Motorbot is known for… and, when coming out of the video screen like that, I only know I don't want to lose at whatever game I am playing! The side decals look fantastic and, based on the two colorways shown above, I'm guessing that there will be a small run of these available at the show.
*** UPDATE *** We've been informed that the actual title is "Quarter Eaters" and that 30 black ones will be available online tomorrow night. The glow-in-the-dark version (seen on the right) are exclusive to the show.
Vinyl Thoughts 2 is a one-night show on Thursday, March 15th from 7PM until 11PM at The Quixotic World, 2824 Main St., Dallas, TX 75226.

Sawdust Bear's Hiveblobs have their secret lives exposed!
Shing Yin Khor aka Sawdust Bear has recently been posting pictures of the adorable monstrosities known as Hiveblobs (pictures of the elusive beasts above). She's even gone so far as to create a wonderful "Ecology of…" style article regarding them. But, most important of all, she's stated that this is probably the next design she plans on sculpting; and by sculpting we can only hope she means make a cast of and release as a limited (or open) edition figure series. I love how these creatures remind one of the works of Hayao Miyazaki, especially circa Spirited Away, without being derivative of his style. Should we hound Sawdust Bear until she agrees to make a run of these beasties? Let us know what you think in the comments area.
Shez's Mickey Mouse custom for the Play Imaginative x Disney show!
I've never been quiet about my personal distaste for the split, two-face design; I think it's rather trite and never quite looks 'right.' That said, I can completely forgive it in Shez's "Good Mickey Bad Mickey" custom for the Play Imaginative x Disney group Mickey Mouse show; probably because it is such a standard concept from those classic Walt Disney toons of my youth. And he does do a solid job of balancing the sides, making the elements that flow from one-half into the other more fluid… like the normal 'box' teeth on the right shifting into fanged 'triangles' on the left. Even the paint splatters and dirtiness of the right set it apart just right. Upon closer examination, you can tell that this whole piece was hand-painted with a brush:
Yes, alas, there are dried brush streaks on him. Not uncommon when hand-brushing, which is why so many use spray paint and/or airbrush to get cleaner results. Past this minor failing, Shez was wise in his choice of design; a lot of people have been sculpting and modifying the base platform, which makes the potential for a production run lower — just in case Play Imaginative does an artists series of the figure. While this figure might not be a home run, it is a solid hit; which, as always, makes me excited to see what the relative newcomer Shez will do next.

Buff Monster's new print from 1xRUN?!? So it appears…
Yesterday, the fine folks over at 1xRUN posted the above to their Twitter feed with the tagline: "Sneak peek of a special upcoming run…" And if this isn't a new Buff Monster print than I suspect there will be a lawsuit in the near future. All joking aside, we fully assume that this has to do with our announcement the other day of Buff Monster's upcoming gallery show set to coincide with his birthday… And if I didn't know any better, I'd swear those look like the backs to trading cards…
*** UPDATE *** It appears my guess is correct. The above are uncut sheets of the ToTT Global "Melty Misfits" Trading Cards which will be sold by 1xRUN in both signed and unsigned formats.
*** UPDATE OF THE UPDATE *** There was a misunderstanding and we apologize for it. The uncut sheet is of the ToTT Global Buff Monster playing cards, not the announced "Melty Misfits" trading cards. Our apologies for any confusion this caused.

Ian Ziobrowski's custom Dunny isn't clownin' around!
Wow, that is one scary ass lookin' clown that Ian Ziobrowski's got goin' on there. "Rusty the Clown" is a customized 8" dunny and Ziobrowski really outdid himself here; great concept, amazing execution, and a terror to those afraid of clowns everywhere. This belligerent jokester is juggling broken beer bottles and, whoops, he appears to have dropped one… one that wasn't empty?
The sculpting on the base of the ears, the nose, the ears, and the neck collar are so smooth that it hurts, but it's the paint job that puts this over-the-top. The tonality of color, the depth, the detailing… absolutely insane. My only complaint, if it can be called that, is that the wire holding the bottles in the air is very visible; some form of clear plastic would have been preferable. But, c'mon, in the end… it doesn't really matter; completely amazing custom.

Josh Mayhem's "Buggz the Toxic Bunny" now at Tenacious Toys!
We first mentioned Josh Mayhem's Askew Rangers series a while back and, since then, it has continued to grow… a line of elite fighters and, well, custom figures. The newest edition to the series is Buggz the Toxic Bunny. Mayhem's line control with paint is fantastic; I'm sure he tapes it off, but still… very slick looking. And I like that he throws some splatters in there to make it a little less pristine looking, which is a good call when you're dealing with war based designs. All the gear looks like it is customized pieces of a paintball gun, but I love some of the details Mayhem added, like:
The griminess, the leaking biohazard containers, the poison pill backpack, all of it just flows perfectly. Buggz, like all the Askew Rangers, is available for sale at Tenacious Toys; though this 15" bunny will set you back $300.

OsiRisORion's Tattooed Man, Monster Kolor Mickey Mouse for Play Imaginative x Disney show!
OsiRisORion's contribution for the Play Imaginative x Disney custom Mickey Mouse group show arrived in my inbox without a name; "untitled" being the default, of course. But, in my head, I granted this piece the name "The Tattooed Mouse," because that's what it makes me think of even though — at the end of the day — the details are more monstrous than mouse.
So yes, this Mickey has three eyes that burn red with hatred… not counting that massive eyeball lodged into the back of his head. And rows of sharp, shark-like teeth that surely denote a desire for blood and flesh in his diet. And those wonderful formations in his ears, part tendril ready to grab and part skeletal construct in appearance. But most important is the fact that it is all painted on gorgeously. So where did I get my "The Tattooed Mouse" thing from? Well, those gorgeous washes, of what I'm guessing is Monster Kolor, have black, veiny lines running through them and — on my first, quick glance — it looked like some sort of amorphous tattoo that stretched Mickey's whole body.
