"El Phoenix" Huertas custom by J.C. Rivera
OH MY GOODNESS... check out this amazing custom Muttpop Tequila figure recently completed by artist J.C. Rivera... WOW!!! J.C. knock another one outta the park... and in all honesty, this may be my favorite piece by him thus far! Titled Albert "El Phoenix" Huertas, J.C. tells us that this boxer "The undefeated champ fought his last fight at the age of 45 to show the world that he was still the 1# in world"! It was completed as a commission piece, and I am sure that the collector is super stoked on how it turned out! I am constantly amazed at the raw talent that comes out of this custom vinyl scene, and J.C. is really showcasing his skills as of late... that being said, he is always open for comissions, so if you want a custom by him, hit him up via jcriveramail@yahoo.com!

"Gusto" prototype sculpt from Blurble
There is always room for more resin figures... especially when they are this cool!!!! We just got word from Mike aka Blurble that he has been working with Jon at Rampage Toys for the sculpt of his new figure taht you see above named "Gusto"! According to Mike, "He comes from the village of Garama. He is a hip monster who loves drinking coffee and drawing. Other then that he is pretty chilled. He does have a really bad gash on his back from a skateboarding accident but he wears it with pride." This figure has been showing up in Mike's artwork for some time now, and he felt like it was time to bring him into the 3D realm... and I'm glad he decided to do so! Mike also mentions that this figure will be cast in resin by the fellas over at Monstrehero so you know the quality will be top notch! Look for "Gusto" to go up for pre-order very soon via Mike's online store HERE! Great work all around... and I can't wait to see him all painted up!

Honey, I shrunk Benny!
We first saw the release of Okedoki's "Benny The Dreamer" figure in early 2011 as a 12" resin collectible, then Benny got supersized by Toy Art Gallery as a 4' tall fiberglass version... and just recently posted up on Okedoki's Facbook page was the picture that you see above of this sweet looking figure shrunk down to a mini! We don't know much about this piece right now, but when asked about it, Okedoki told us "will release more info in time. ;) can't say much else right now, got a few projects in the works."... and we all are anxiously awaiting!

Amanda Louise Spayd's faux candies for Monsters & Misfits II!
Since we just showed you even more teaser pics of Chris Ryniak's work for the upcoming Monsters & Misfits II group art show in Japan, we figured this was one of this "tit for tat" scenarios and it was only fair to show off the amazing work Amanda Louise Spayd has been doing. Mind you, Spayd has been busy getting ready for her previously announced solo show…
But yes, these are resin cast candies that she created and decorated for the group exhibition. And they look WAY too real; she really did a fantastic job crafting these. Though I'm wondering if these resin delectables might have something to do Ryniak's "The Nibbler" creature, but only time will tell on that front.
Spayd — like Ryniak — has been posting to both her Tumblr and Twitter accounts, so you may want to give her a follow just to see what develops.

Chris Ryniak's WIP pics for Monsters & Misfits II!
A while back, we posted a teaser of Chris Ryniak's The Nibbler that was created for the Monsters & Misfits II group art show in Japan. Since then, Ryniak has been busy creating tons of new adorable atrocities and monstrous marvels with which to "wow" us. While we might not have names for these little beauties, we do have work-in-progress pics to share…
Ryniak has been steadily posting to both his Tumblr and Twitter accounts, so we advise you to follow both in order to see all the cozy creatures he has to share…

Scarecrowoven's "The 17,000 Sins of Skele-Gore" art print!
Growing up, I loved Skeletor from the Masters of the Universe TV show; he was this scary villain that my young mind wasn't overly frightened of. Well, Scarecrowoven has decided to make the skinless baddie just a wee bit more frightening in his new print, "The 17,000 Sins of Skele-Gore." I love the design, done in a style reminiscent of Charles Burns with a color palate that is pure psycho-delic wonder. It is a 14" x 17" giclée printed on natural, acid free, velvet watercolor paper with archival inks and comes signed & numbered by Scarecrowoven. Only 25 copies of this are being produced and — at the reasonable price of $25 — this is a fantastic deal and great addition to any wall. If, like me, you have nostalgia for He-Man then you need to frame this wonderful tribute and hang it prominently. You can buy it in Scarecrowoven's web store HERE… but act fast, with so few copies being made, it is sure to go quickly.

Luke Chueh & Pretty in Plastic customizing Nathan Hamill's Bellicose Bunny?!?
Luke Chueh posted the above picture to his Twitter yesterday with the notation: "Getting my customizing on with help from the Pretty in Plastic Crew #BellicoseBunny." That's obviously a Bellicose Bunny he's working on, most likely for the upcoming "Bellicosity" group custom show Nathan Hamill has been assembling. But what does he need Pretty in Plastic for, who are known mostly as prototypers… creating a piece from design to sculpt to cast. Very interesting…
The list of known artists in the show currently is: A Little Stranger, Carson Catlin, Chauskoskis, Cris Rose, Jon Paul Kaiser, Luke Chueh, Mikie Graham, OsirisOrion, Plaseebo, Rsin, valleyDweller, and our own John "Spanky" Stokes. "Bellicosity: The Bellicose Bunny Group Custom Show" will open on March 23rd and run through April 6th at the Toy Art Gallery (TAG), 7571 Melrose Ave. (corner of Melrose & Curson) Los Angeles, CA, 90046.

UME Toys's custom Mickey Mouses (Mice?) for Play Imaginative!
Play Imaginative's Mickey Mouse custom showcase continues to get new additions… and ones that impress. Richard Page aka UME Toys has done not one but two of the vinyl Mickey Mouse customs! Above is "Oswald," which looks like a classic Mickey Mouse in design except… um, are those bunny ears? Yes, it would appear Oswald is a rabbit; and Rich went all out sculpting perfect ears and round tail for the sucker. I mean, seriously, tell me you that doesn't look factory fresh? Damn…
And then we have Rich's "Bud T" version, a cyclops that wouldn't've fit in with Clash of the Titans. Yup, just a bit on the cartoony looking side… but I love it. Very inventive flipping the head like that to create the base he wanted and the sculpt of all the face details looks pretty damn good. I'm especially found of the controlled dirty look that Rich accomplished, which is done in a solid balance — not so much as to obscure the main paint job but strong enough to be noticeable & change perception of the whole as a result. All in all, Rich knocked two out of the park!

Matt JOnes's "Five of Hearts" for the Creative Cards Project.
Above is Matt JOnes's wonderfully cartoony contribution to the Creative Cards Project, which asks a variety of artists to each design one card from a playing deck. JOnes is one of the first artists to have their work posted online and I think it is so perfectly adorable. And JOnes is set alongside worthwhile designers… there are quite a few names on the list that excite me. Heck, Luke Chueh is on there. I love the idea and — so far — the execution; this could be a collectible for the ages!
