This website is about any and everything that sparks the creative genius in all of us. By profession I am a Graphic Designer, and enjoy all aspects of design. From traditional to urban from resin to vinyl, these are all great mediums and deserve to be explored. On top of that everything from music to movies from guns to graffiti.
I love customs… they really are my heart's desire in the designer toy field. But, because of that, I'm tough on 'em; I'll only buy a custom that either (a) is amazingly painted, sculpted, etc. and/or (b) makes me laugh. That said, I'd totally buy the 2bitHack's "DunnyMC-12." No one can say "look at that amazingly clean paint job" but — assuming they are a fan of the Back to the Future movies — they will laugh their ass off looking at it.
The name of the figure, "DunnyMC-12," is a joke itself… since the car in the film was a 1981 DeLorean DMC-12. The obvious item is the flux capacitor located on the dunny's chest, but I love how 2bitHack turned one ear into the lightning rod the car needed in the first film and the other into the Mr. Fusion machine the Doc picks up in the future. This is a little piece of 3" vinyl heaven for those nostalgic for the '80's.
2bitHack always makes me laugh, because he does have a great sense of humor about his art… which I appreciate beyond belief in this super-serious industry. You can contact him via his webstore or Twitter account about having a little slice of laughter made special for you.
Being released at 12 Noon EST on Monday (February 27th), Katsu's "Priority Mail" limited edition print from 1xRUN looks epic… but pricey. Limited to only 30 piece made, this massive 40" x 26" 3-color screenprint will run you $200. Made on 140lbs. French paper, they are made to resemble the Post Office Priority Mail stickers that Katsu is known for throwing up all over the world. One weird thing is that these prints will not be signed, as per the artist's decision; Katsu will sign the certificate of authenticity that comes with each, though, and include a copy of the notorious sticker the print is based on.
Some of you might be wondering where you've heard the name Katsu before. Well… it was in the press quite a bit last year. He's the artist that illegally tagged the MoCA Graffiti art show, as seen here:
What does make that high price tag worthwhile is that Katsu doesn't normally do this sort of thing… nor anything really commercial. So this could be your one chance… Monday, February 27th, 12 Noon EST, HERE.
A piece of vinyl pain-stakingly cut apart and hand-sewn with an intricate pattern that looks like it took forever to do? Yup, must be a new piece by Carson Catlin. And it is… a Bellicose Bunny for the upcoming "Bellicosity" group custom show Nathan Hamill is putting together. Catlin posted it with the title "Dat ass," but that might not be the actual title of the piece. This WIP pic is a little hard to comment on, with the weird angle and darkness, but it's Carson Catlin… has the man ever steered us wrong before? This show is shaping up amazingly!
The list of known artists in the show currently is: Carson Catlin, Chauskoskis, Mikie Graham, OsirisOrion, Plaseebo (who I just learned is in the show), Rsin, and our own John "Spanky" Stokes. We can assume Nathan Hamill himself will have a piece in it too — he did post a pic to his Twitter feed entitled "Skeletose" which looks like a skeletal Bellicose Bunny. Hmm…
We look forward to sharing more work-in-progress pics of pieces from the show and keeping you updated on it. And am I the only person that really wants to buy a Bellicose Bunny to customize now?
Are you a sculptor? Or a figure painter? Always wanted to work in the toy design industry? Then the Four Horsemen are looking for you! First off, you do have to be in (or easily able to get to) the northern New Jersey area. Still here? Then here are some more of what they are looking for:
Traditional sculptors, preferably those with experience Castilene clay;
Digital sculptors; and/or
Figure painters with experience using acrylic paints, cel vinyl paints, washes, dry-brushing, over-spray, and airbrushing.
If you think you can make the cut, then head on over HERE and find out how to submit your portfolio & application.
If you follow valleyDweller's Twitter feed, then you know the man is obsessed with his vinyl toys and with Warhammer… so it was about time the two meet. Obviously inspired by the Warhammer universe, this Dunny custom has a goblinoid menace preparing to use the "Dual Warhead Dunny Launcher" on some unsuspecting foe. The paint job looks well-defined and sharp and — to my pleasant surprise — the dunny is completely removable from the launcher… so you can actually play with it! Can you just imagine plunking this bad boy down on your Warhammer battlefield? Your friends would run for the hills…
***UPDATE*** valleyDweller informs us that this is WIP custom & that base figure is a Horselington (minus the horse hat on his head, obviously). Silly me for not recognizing it… Then, perhaps, the rocket launcher might actually be made out of the horse hat… Hmm.
If we really wanted, this site could probably be dedicated to Motorbot. In all seriousness, this man is a true toy making machine; he pumps out genius like other people produce, uh, carbon dioxide (that's what we all exhale, by the way). This is the year that Motorbot promised to try new things, have fun with the medium, do exciting projects, so on and so forth… and we've seen it, he's been producing some top-notch stuff already. But here it is, his new platform: the Squonk. Above you can see three colorways he's experimenting with: clear green, solid green (painted) and black. All of them have some for form of glitter in the resin, which really makes the solid colors pop with coolness, and — what's more — they have articulated arms.
No word on pricing, but Motorbot has stated on his Twitter feed that 10 of these must-own nasties will be in his webstore on Monday. I don't know about you, but I can't wait for these to be released!
Everyone loves Bryan Brutherford of Brutherford Industries's Ice Scream Man, the deliciously devilish melting ice cream oozing with skull appeal in a variety of funtastic flavors. Well, Brutherford recently shared with us (via his Twitter feed) this amazing picture of an Ice Scream Man Mini! While I'm sure, unlike it's big brother, it is a single mold piece and the cone isn't removable, this thing is too damn cute for words. These snack-sized nightmares will (hopefully) be heading to a Brutherford Industries sales outlet near you soon! And, as Brutherford himself tells us, there shall be a plethora of colors available!
On a different note, am I the only person to notice that the "normal" Ice Scream Men in the background are of varying sizes? What's up with that?!?
Yet another piece for the upcoming "Bellicosity" group custom show has surfaced… this time by OsirisOrion. Per usual, Orion has done a super solid paint job on this Nathan Hamill Bellicose Bunny platform, but he does call this a work-in-progress… which is good, because I can see a little roughness above the hind leg. Sorry to point it out, but Orion's paints are too killer to hide any flaws like that; which is why I'm sure this is a WIP pic from him.
But we also learn, from Orion's Instagram post, that Chauskoskis is doing a piece for the show! A list of the artists involved is quickly coming together: Chauskoskis, Mikie Graham, OsirisOrion, and Rsin… oh, wait, and our own John "Spanky" Stokes is doing one as well! Who will be the next artist to break the silence and share a WIP with us?
