On February 2nd,
Luke Chueh's first Las Vegas art show opened; entitled "Primrose Path," it is a joint exhibit with relative newcomer
Juan Muniz at the
Brett Wesley Gallery. The "Primrose Path," an idiom coined by William Shakespeare to indicate a series of choices leading towards self-destruction, has Chueh embracing his "Sin City" surroundings by doing a series of works reflecting on the Seven Deadly Sins.

More Dok A. news... and why not?!?! After
Doktor A's hugely successful run of the Mechtorian Humphrey Mooncalf badges, he follows it up with a new 1" character badge: the retrobotic Femme fetale '
Bella DeLamere'. This gorgeous antique brass fitting will be partly filled with green enamel, the first of four colorways Bella will be offered in.
Limited to a mere 100 copies, each engraved with a unique number on the back, these babies are sure to go fast. Especially considering they are
only $10 (£6) each. Miss DeLamere will be appearing in
Doktor A's web shop on February 5th (GMT) at four different random times throughout the day.
Not enough for you? Also hitting his
shop Sunday are
13 AP (Artist Proof) copies of the Tomenosuke Japanese exclusive "Leprechaun" Humphrey Mooncalf figure. Normally limited to 100 copies, these thirteen will stand out even more since they feature the good Doktor's signature on the inside of poor Humphrey's cranium.
Priced at $135 (£85) each, these are a
must add item to any Doktor A. fan's collection.

What has been in the works since before SDCC 2011, and is finally in the final stages of preparation, a show being organized by
Paul Greenwood titled "PLAYSAM 500" just locked down it's final show date along with a seriously impressive lineup of artists! Going down on April 28th in San Francisco CA at
Super7's shop/gallery space, the "PLAYSAM 500" is a custom toy art show featuring
59 artists from
5 different countries, all of whom have been tasked with customizing the iconic
Playsam Streamliner Classic, designed by Ulf Hanses, and in the end being sold off to benefit the
World Childhood Foundation.
Like mentioned above, the artists involved in this show are some heavy hitters, and the artist list so far is:
Andrew Bell, Arbito, Clayton Bailey, Dacosta, Super Cooper Berella, Beast Brothers, Betso, Kat Brunegraff, 64 Colors,Carson Catlin, Alex Dril, Tristan Eaton, Brian Flynn, George Gaspar, Paul Greenwood, Gary Ham, Nathan Hamill, Jay222, Walter Chauskoskis Jacott, Jryu, Jeremiah Ketner, Paul Kaiju, Aya Kakeda, Kill, Frank Kozik, Josh Herbolsheimer, Travis Lampe, Matthew Langille, Josh Mayhem, Sarah Lunabee Miskelly, Frank Mysterio, Motorbot, Ritzy Periwinkle, Plaseebo, Patricio Oliver, Task One, Dave Pressler, Reactor 88, Jason “Aka Big Money” Rodan, Cris Rose, Donald Scribe Ross, Ardabus Rubber, Skinner, Bwana Spoons, John”Spanky”Stokes, Steve Talkowski, Cameron Tiede, Scott Tolleson, Vise One, Ben Walker, Adam Washburn, David Miller Weeks, Julie West, Nicholas Woodworth and may others! This promises to be a fun and very interesting show as the platform is a very stylized wooden car... and seeing what artists do with it should be a sight to see for sure! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more teasers... similar to the one above that
Skinner recently finished... sooooo cool!

I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it. Well now I can say I have seen it and now you can to!
Keithing has just sent over 2 new work in progress pictures of his new custom creations that he will be releasing soon. Up first is his custom 8" Dunny, and instead of having its normal bunny ears,
REAL deer antlers were put in their place. The Dunny head also has parts of its face carved out along with an ivory paint job that has given it a very realistic skull appearance. The full story of this Dunny is yet to be told but will be interesting to find out when the finished product is revealed.
The second custom by Keithing is the 3A Bothead mounted on a wall plaque with antlers. I know this custom may not be everyone's taste but for me it is totally awesome and just has that "IT" factor. Love it or hate it, it definitely would be one of those conversation pieces that everyone would talk about when visiting your home. The combination of the popularity of 3A with that of a hunters prized possession is very well thought out and executed. I personally cannot wait to see the finalized version of this one. Great job on thinking outside of the box Keithing.

In April 2011, there was a three-person group exhibition called Monsters & Misfits held at the
Kusakabe Folk Museum in Takayama, Japan. The show's opening was on the eve of the Takayama Spring Festival, a massive event that draws roughly 200,000 tourists to the city every year. And the works of
Kathie Olivas,
Brandt Peters, and
Chris Ryniak were there; their Monsters & Misfits show being a disaster relief fundraiser that featured exclusive
Tomenosuke-syoten debuts and a bevy of custom figure art by the artists. In fact, several of the designs these artists became known for in 2011 premiered as customs at this event… including the "Octopus Girl" version of Elizabeth. If that wasn't enough, they're doing it again!
Not only will
Monsters & Misftis II feature new works by the original artists but this time they are adding
Amanda Louise Spayd and
Doktor A to the roster (
who appears to be customizing a "Chester Runcorn" figure, mentioned in our previous post HERE). Once again set to open on April 13th, the day before the Takayama Spring Festival, the Tomenosuke-syoten hosted show will return to the Kusakabe Folk Museum. While the exact end date of the show hasn't been officially announced, it seems likely it will be April 30th. (
Top image is a work-in-progress shot of pieces by Kathie Olivas & Brandt Peters for the show. Above image is a work-in-progress shot of a piece by Doktor A for the show. Both are courtesy of the Circus Posterus blog.)
The Kusakabe Folk Museum is located at 1-52, Oshin-machi, Takayama-shi, Gifu-ken, Japan (
15 minutes on foot from the Takayama Station on the JR line). They can be found on the web at
kusakabe-mingeikan.com.

Awwww yeah... check out this little beauty from
Kuso Vinyl and
Doktor A.! Titled "
Chester Runcorn", this figure was first spotted at Designer-Con 2011 as a painted prototype (
image can be found HERE) and now it looks as though Kuso is well upon their way in getting this figure produced. Above is the wax'ing process of said figure before the mold is made... meaning, we will see some test pulls very soon! Oh, and just a little insider info... I have seen a few projected colorways of this figure and they look awesome! More info soon!

What do you get when you merge the delicate craftsmanship of
Cris Rose's sculpting ability with the über-crisp custom paint jobs of
Lunabee? Yup, it's time for another Robobees series. A mutated variation of Rose's classic Sprog platform, the Robobee is — as the name implies — a robotic bee; Rose brings the mechanical design to the sculpt and then Lunabee imbues it with her warm-hearted designs. This will be the third time the duo have visited this idea (the above shown Robobees are from Series 1), but their creativity and originality keep the concept fresh and lively. Based on the original two sets, these will be 3" tall hand-cast resin models and there will probably only be six of them. Rose has completed the casts and Lunabee is currently painting the new figures. No firm drop date or price point has been set, but they will most likely appear in
Lunabee's web shop (
http://lunabee.bigcartel.com/) in the near future.

... or should I say his producer, as Vince from
VTSS Designer Toys has agreed to put this sweet little figure into production with an estimated release date of SDCC 2012!!! After his successful show at
Dragatomi last month, artist
Martin Hsu became jet-set and above is proof of his hard work and dedication paying off. You may remember VTSS Designer Toys from their epic art toy project with Okedoki and her "
Benny The Dreamer" figure (
pictured above with Dragon Boy)... an amazing piece for sure, well... the same attention to detail, preparation, and production will go into Martin's "Dragon Boy" and I personally can't wait to follow along and see the finished product! More info on this very soon, and I believe a HUGE congrats goes out to Martin for his success, and here's to looking forward to a fantastic new designer vinyl toy! More pictures from Vince and Martin's meet up can be found
HERE.

Although autumn has come and gone here in the United States, the southern hemisphere along with "Zukie World" are gearing up for it. These cute little Zukies are enjoying the beautiful autumn weather before the cold hard freeze of winter hits. These "Autumn Zukies" really show off what I really love about autumn and that is the colors. All the different shades of brown, red and orange add so much contrast to the scenery and help make the Zukies really pop. Each Zukie is hand made out of sculpey, with hobby grass and come in
a 3"x3"x3" protective case. Alison Perez aka
Miss Zukie has really made a beautiful elegant set here, and if you are interested in picking one up they retail for
$60 each and can be purchased
HERE.

Phil Lumbang's clean & crisp cartoonish bears — dubbed by fans as "awesome bears" — tend to make people feel happy. And, I guess, Lumbang assumed England was in need of some extra happiness… since he has a solo show entitled "New Arrival" opening on February 3rd at the
Unit 44 Gallery in Newcastle. By why rave about it when you can see some beautiful sneak peaks.
"New Arrival: Solo Works by Phil Lumbang" runs from February 3rd until March 1st at
Unit 44 Gallery, Hoults Yard, Unit 44, Walker Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE6 2HL, England. (

If you aren't aware of street art muralist
Phlegm then you are missing out. Known for his hyper-detailed style reminiscent of Medieval woodcuts, Phlegm has been bringing the "wow" factor with his work for a while now. And he continues to outdo himself, to surprise of all. His newest creation — already set to have a print made out of it — is a tryptic of brilliant fine line imagery.
Entitled "Civilization," this illustration reveals the entire world resting on the back of one of Phlegm's mainstay characters. While no release date, price, or edition quantity have been set, this is sure to be a high demand item. To learn more, e-mail the artist at
phlegmcomic [at] gmail [dot] com to be added to his mailing list.
