The Beast Brothers x Huck Gee - "Skullendario Azteca" a custom collab for the record books!
Yup... this is really going to happen folks! Snuck in one of Huck's pictures (to the left) as a teaser via his Twitter feed a few weeks back, most savvy with the designer toy scene called it out for what it was... a Beast Brothers x Huck Gee collaboration, but nothing was confirmed... until now! These two truly talented artistic forces have teamed up to release a special limited run of handmade custom 8" Dunnys dubbed the "Skullendario Azteca" that are based on the best of both worlds... the popular "Azteca Calendario" Dunny by The Beast Brothers, and the "Skullhead" icon that Huck has made so famous. Each 8" custom figure is hand painted and adorned with Swarovski crystals and hand a stitched flag. Each piece is also entombed in a custom made wooden box engraved with the revised Azteca Calendar. This piece already lks amazing from the teaser that we see above... and I can guarentee that the finished piece is going to blow some minds! Look for more pictures to be popping up very soon, and for the official drop to happen in February.Source[BeastBrothers Press]

The artwork and sculptural stylings of Simon Boses aka MudMonkey... is AWESOME!!!
Thanks to artist and fellow reader of SS.com, Kevin Titzer, he opened up my eyes to the work of his friend Simon Boses aka MudMonkey... and I gotta say I love his sculptural work! After doing a little research, I found out that Simon was born in Bethlahem, Israel but grew up in St. Pete, Florida and eventually received his BFA from Maryland Institute, College of Art. In 1997 with an art degree in one hand and a lump of clay in the other he started sculpting ceramic figures... and the rest is history! One thing that really sets his work apart from others in the designer toy scene is that he primarily uses ceramics, which involves firing his pieces in a Kiln... a truly involved process, but the results can be that much more rewarding! His style is also really different in that he creates some seriously unique characters, all of which kinda have the same facial characteristics, but are all involved in different situations.
In a recent interview over at SWL, the questions was asked "What makes your works stand-out or different from other sculptor?" and Simon answered "I often choose to deal with issues that are fairly serious, but the characters that I use as vehicles for exploring the issue are often not very serious at all. This strange juxtaposition often opens a door, allowing the audience a chance to get close to the issue without the ‘heaviness’ that can make social themed art off-putting." That being said, you can see the seriousness in the situations offset by the cartoony nature of his creations... a great balance if you ask me! Do yourself a favor and visit his site HERE as well as his online store HERE where you can pick up some one of a kind, super unique sculptures, for some really great prices!

"Robotone" Sprogs... a new color every month!
UK based artist Cris Rose is kicking 2012 off in high gear as we see the release of a brand new line of very familiar figures. Dubbed the "Robotone" Sprog's, this series of 13 bright colored resin robots are going to be released every month this year, and with each new month, bring s a brand new color! Now, you can have your choice of either "Renold" or "Rourke"... both of which will be just $25 each. Now, if you are keen to pick these up, the first color is dropping Saturday, January 7th 2012 HERE at 12 Noon PST and will be that striking "January Blue" you see above!
But wait, why are there 13... well if you collect all 12 colors of the same bot, Cris will send you the 13th for free... AWESOME! When you put all 12 together, they make a rainbow - just send Cris a photo of your Robotone Rainbow in November and he will pop special No13 in with your order for No12. Remember, it must be all 12 of either "Renold" or "Rourke" to qualify. Each Robotone Sprog is hand-made, hand-cast, hand-poured, solid colored resin, and comes with a numbered header card and bag. Release order will not be chromalogical, but chosen to reflect the month. Oh, and since these are all hand-made and limited, you probably should sign up for Cris' newsletter to get a much needed 24 hour jump on the rest of the global population :-)
