WHAT'S NEW

D-Rock & E O S's paintings for the Earth Movement group show.

Yesterday we revealed Madison & Lou Pimentel's painting for the upcoming Earth Movement group art charity show, which we previously discussed HERE, so today we thought we'd tease you with the pieces by E O S and D-Rock. I don't know the relation of the two, but they decided to not collaborate together on a piece but rather each do a piece with similar themes and mediums. Above in E O S's "K A M I M U S U B I" painting, done in charcoal, pencil & ink on wood. The title's literal translation is something like "Divine Producing Wondrous Diety" and I love how he divided the piece into two-halves: the right being the 'nature as provider' side, with growth in her hair and a bird in healthy flight, while the left shows the 'nature as destroyer' side, with the traditional tidal wave Japanese image and the skeletal bird in broken necked descent.

D-Rock's piece is colorful and continues the water theme well. The 12-year-old artist named this piece "I Am Horrible At Naming Things" and it is also done with charcoal, pencil & ink on wood. This shows the happy side of Japan well, the colorful sea dragon escorting what appears to be a flag-waving Pikachu (from Pokemon) across rather serene waters. There's actually a very nice depth of form here, with solid shading that makes the dragon actually appear more real. Truly an excellent job!

"Earth Movement" has a preview showing on March 1st & an opening reception on March 3rd and runs through March 22nd at Kokoro Studio, 682 Geary St., San Francisco, CA 94102. http://www.kokorostudio.us
