WHAT'S NEW

Kidrobot x JK5 - RJ-K5 "Astrofresh Basketball Droyds"... are being produced in resin?!?!?!

Woah... this one is definitely outta left field... now lets preface this article a little bit! It has been brought to my attention by many close friends in the industry that the cost of producing vinyl is getting ridiculous... that being said, many companies have seen the writing on the walls for quite some time now and have started to experiment with other materials, resin being the most common... but boy, oh boy, I never thought that I would ever see Kidrobot take this path... but I was wrong! Introducing the brand new - what has been in the works for many years now - New York based artist JK5's "RJ-K5 Astrofresh Basketball Droyds". I can recall seeing proto pics of these almost 5 years ago, and it appears that it would have just been to pricey to make into vinyl... so what did Kidrobot do, they ended up making it in resin! These will be available in 2 editions: the regulation orange colored Galactic Game Ball and the retro red, white, and blue Hyperspace All-Star, these sculptures stand 8.5" tall, are limited to just 327 pieces each, and are set to drop on March 8th for a flat $100 price tag!

Now... you may recall an article that we posted HERE back in May of 2011, where Kidrobot founder Paul Budnitz was featured in an article in INC. MAGAZINE, and in that article there was a very revealing photo of not only a bunch of products that had not seen the light of day up until that point, but on the table was JK5's "BasketBall Droyd". That picture posted HERE gives you a good chance to see this sculpture in relation to other figures... a nice size! So what are your thoughts on the figure, or how about Kidrobot taking the resin path... drop me a comment below.
