"Baako" vinyl figure from Tribaltoy
From artist Vahid Musah emerges a new, New York based, designer toy company called 'Tribaltoy' who specializes in vinyl toys and illustrations based on African sculptures and art. Their first official release is of a really stylized figure named "Baako" who currently comes in one size - a nice 7.5" tall, and each one incorporates a body color pattern based on a unique illustration. The figure is stylistic, simple and has three points of articulation (Head, Arms, Legs) designed around a few predetermined poses. The original artwork appears on the packaging... making this a really unique figure! This particular "Red" version is limited to 250 pieces worldwide and is retailing for only $40... a great deal if you ask me! It can be picked up HERE, and while you are there check out some of the other products that will hopefully be releasing soon!

Tomoo Yamaji's transforming robot sculptures!
And now for something a little different... but AWESOME! Artist Tomoo Yamaji aka HENGE from Japan has just contacted us about his amazing mech like transforming made to order designer robots... and how slick do these look?!?!?!?! According to Tomoo, every piece of his artworks transforms into multiple forms without removing any parts like TRANSFORMERS toy products... making them both art and toy, and as you can tell from the display above, you can see why! The ones on display are titled "h040101 Fast Mercy (Black/Gold)" and "h040102 Fast Mercy (Black/Silver)" and these figures are around 10" tall, are made from polyurethane resin, and retail for around $385 a piece.
As you can see in the above video, this thing transforms seamlessly with only a few simple steps, and one thing to note is the wall installation... really cool looking static install! I think these figures are super stylized, and using the human form as the base torso makes it that much more interesting... too cool! For more info on HENGE and his rad products, visit his online shop HERE.

Plastic Culture's "Collectors Showcase"
The great folks over at Plastic Culture just finished other first Collectors Showcase, called "My New Obsession" featuring the all designer toys collection from top collectors in Indonesia. Just to name a few, they are: Sani Prawira, Roy Hendarto, Antonius Budi, Edi Irawan, and Bowo Suhardjo. "My New Obsession: Collectors Showcase" was held at The Other Culture from November 18th to 30th where they had a mini closing party. The entire premious behind this is that collectors brought out their collections... and displayed them in a gallery setting for all to see and admire... a really great way to expose others to different brands and styles! One of the center pieces of this collection is of course, the Dunny collection from Sani Prawira and Joe Ledbetter collection of Edi Irawan. Their collections alone almost filled out the entire space... there weer a ton of photos taken from this event, all of which can be seen HERE, enjoy :-)
