NYCC 2011 release: Jeremiah Ketner’s Urchin Print Release @ MyPlasticHeart
Jeremiah Ketner is gearing up like the majority of the designer toy/art world for NYCC and just announced via the MPH website is that he will be releasing a print during the convention of "Urchin", one of the enchanting sprites featured in his recent show dubbed "Magical Place" at myplasticheart. The print is limited to 30 and each is signed and numbered. They’ll be available at the beginning of NYCC and during Jeremiah’s signing on Friday at the myplasticheart booth #879. Price and signing time will be released shortly... but this is one awesome looking print... and is a step in a new direction that I hope to see Jeremiah taking his future works as well!

"Smurfpire" Gumpy by Leecifer
So who says that Smurfs can't become vampires... well obviously Leecifer believes it can happen as he transformed his blank Gumpy figure into a Smurf... with a little extra bite, if you know what I mean :-) This was done up for the upcoming Gumpy Show that is going down on October 8th at Gunnzo in San Diego. I really like the interpretation of Lee's character on the Gumpy figure... and how can you not dig that lovely dry brushing that shows up in all of his work!

"Hunny Bunny" print from Joe Ledbeter
Last time it was a bunny looking quite dead in Joe's homage to Dia De Los Muertos with his "Calavera Bunny", and now Joe Ledbetter shows us today that his bunny creations are a little sticky and sweet! As part of Joe's series dubbed the "Mutant Bunny Print Series 2011", which features a series of Giclee prints, 12 to be exact, all measuring 5"x7" and will feature Joe's iconic bunny figure. This one titled "Hunny Bunny" comes signed, numbered, and watermarked for authenticity. Limited to only 99 pieces you can pick this up HERE right now for only $40! This is a great idea, and these prints are the perfect size to collect them all and have some wall space left over :-)

MAD x Kidrobot "Bentworld Cans" Artist Series
From one piece of MAD new right onto another... but this time around it's a project that snuck up on everyone! MAD recently sent out a few tweets via his account stating “Well look what just showed up... ” and along with that cryptic message were the pictures that you see above. A new mini-series from Kidrobot called "Bentworld Cans - Artist Series" which features 'Spray Cans' as figures (very similar to the cans in the Bentworld Vandals series) and each color can comes "Racked" (new) & "Spent" (used) where the "Spent" version has been tagged up by the different artists which includes: Jesse Hernandez, SketOne, Pon, kaNO, Scribe, MAD, J.Brunson, and Marka27... a star studded line-up to say the least! This is an awesome spin on a really cool already established figure line, the questions is... when are we going to see these released? More info soon'ish :-)

"Lilitu" by Tara McPherson... first teaser shot!!!!
Well... I sure spoke too soon when I mentioned that "More info will follow very shortly as well as some teaser shots of this femme fatale" in our post HERE earlier today as we have this awesome exclusive teaser shot of the upcoming "Lilitu" figure by Tara McPherson which is being released through Kidrobot's 'Black' line of figures. As you can see from the above image, this super smooth vinyl figure captures all the sensual curves in McPherson's original painting, and seeing it rendered out with the contrast of the slick orange'ish hair makes me want to see more!
The figure itself will come packaged in a closed box - matte black wrapped with a gloss ribbon sleeve with foil stamping of the artist’s logo - nestled securely in molded foam. Like mentioned before, this figure sits 8" tall, will be limited to just 200 pieces and will cost $250! It's cast in matte black vinyl with gloss highlights and an orange rose color accent, which is part of Tara McPherson’s distinct palette. The thin puddle base that the figure is emerging from will be colored a smoky, gloss cool grey. Rumor has it there will be another teaser popping up somewhere soon on the net... so keep those eyes peeled! So, after seeing this quick teaser... are you swayed one way or another... I would love to know your thoughts!

"Ugly Unicorn" Tenacious Toys NYCC exclusives!!!
Well wadda ya know!?!?! Jon from Rampage Toys is a working machine... as it seems that since he moved to Japan he has not stopped and just recently he put in 10 hours of painting to crush out 10 vinyl "Ugly Unicorn" figures to be released as an exclusive for the Tenacious Toys booth during NYCC! These Ugly guys involve clear and metallic blue spray (and some white, black, yellow and other such stuff) over a clear vinyl base. They all will come bagged and header carded - all initialed and editioned, screen printed header cards. There will also be a little micro run (most likely on yellow vinyl) at the Lulubell booth... so there will be plenty of Ugly to go arouond the con!

Have you been looking for some fresh new gear to wear, well you are in luck because just launched is a brand new company called Skelecore apparel and accessories! This entire line of work includes original art by owner and artist Sara Antoinette Martin who has been a part of the designer toy and pop culture scene for over half a decade. Her list of conquests are far-reaching, and include photographer and toy artist at Kidrobot, Producing El Chupacabra in 2008, and being credited in “I am Plastic” and “I am Plastic, Too”. Sara was also Tara Mcpherson’s assistant for 3 years, and is establishing her name as a tattoo artist at Brooklyn Tattoo. As if that wasn’t enough she has even been a guest designer for the apparel brand Mishka.

Jeff Lamm's new "Spike Wad" figure teaser
It appears that artist Jeff Lamm is taking the ball and running with it when it comes to production of his vinyl figures! I am saying this because it was not less than a few months ago his M5 BRAVO' & 'STEE-GAR' figures were just released and now he is teasing us with yet another figure he is calling "Spike Wad" which by the way is being produced by the folks over at Unbox Industries. This character is a familiar face if you follow Jeff's gig poster work and according to Jeff he has four arms, shipped with two front ones unattached so they fit in the bag... and he will be interchangeable with the other Unbox toys... meaning M5 BRAVO' & 'STEE-GAR' will have a buddy :-)

3A Custom Show 1AM Gallery Artist Spotlight: WWWetworks
With the 3A custom show "I Am Legion" coming up Nov. 4 we've been taking time to speak with many of the artists that are participating in the show, today's artist interview will be with 3A customizer and artist extraordinaire Carlos aka WWWetworks. For those that aren't familiar with Carlos work he's one of the top customizers in the world of 3A. His works in both 1:6 and 1:12 always show the highest degree of finish as well as a unique approach that makes his customs some of the top pieces around. Carlos also is a great sculpture working on his own projects that we look forward to seeing one day perhaps as his own stand alone line of toys. So let's chat with WWWetworks and learn a bit more about what makes him tick.... hit the jump!
What brought you into toy customizing?
I'd been wanting to do this for a long time but I can't find a good way to start until I found 3A and all the awesome customizers like muffinman who drove me into customizing.
Yeah muffinman has been a tremendous influence on my own art as well, along with Makadi and artists like Kenn Munk and Drilone. Where do you see the future of designer toys heading?
Designer toys has and will always continue to evolve, its been a part of our culture and modern art.
What brought you to the world of 3A?
I love everything about art and 3A showed me that in a whole new level, works of art that's been transformed into a 3 dimesional masterpiece.
Yeah I think the same way when I look at many objects, toys included, I see great artwork in the form of great solid design and clean lines, I can't really distinguish between art in any form, if it moves me then that's all I care about. What are your top 3 favorite customizers out there today?
Muffinman, Bhead, and KidAkira
I agree those guys are all very strong, great list there. What’s your favorite toy to customize and why?
Tomorrow Kings! man you can't go wrong with them, you can kitbash, add some goofy parts, some weathering and will still look great.
Yes, I've found they are quite a bit of fun to work with, I think working with 1:6 is a bit more challenging as the clothing is something that can be a hurdle but I think that it is fun as it leads to something new to learn and man the 1:6 detailing found in toys today is just amazing.
Well Carlos thanks for the interview and I know I can't wait to check out your customs at the 3A custom show "I Am Legion" at the 1AM Gallery in San Francisco Nov 4 - Dec. 4.

Kidrobot goes mascot crazy with "Bots" & "Fly Guys"
Kidrobot just announced the release of a few new collectible lines of figures... and this go around they are sticking to their Kidrobot mascot figure... and first up is a brand new mini-series they called Kidrobot ‘Bots! These 3" tall 'Bots articulate at the head and arms and in this first series there are 11 characters that you can get... that is if you are lucky enough to pull em seeing as they are blind boxed! They are set to go on sale October 6th for $9.95 a piece. I do like em, and for those who collect the larger mascot figures... these are a must!
Now, onto a much smaller less 3D Kidrobot mascot as they are also releasing a series of enamel zipper pulls! This set features 25 character versions of Kidrobot’s classic icon, and standing at 1" tall, each comes packed with attitude! These are also sold blind, and are much easier on the pocket book seeing as they are only $2.95 a pop... look for these in store on October 6th as well.

Kidrobot Black "Lilitu" by Tara McPherson announced
The time has finally come for Kidrobot to release the much anticipated Kidrobot Black figure from artist Tara McPherson. You may remember our post HERE from over a year ago that showed off rough concepts of this character that she showed off during a speaking engagement! This piece is based off her painting titled "Lilitu" done for the Dark Pop exhibition at Last Rites Gallery. Tara explains that the "painting is based on the Sumerian myth of the demon Lilitu. Representing chaos, seduction and ungodliness. She is a sexually frustrated and infertile female who behaves aggressively toward young men, her breasts are filled with poison not milk. In her every guise, Lilith has cast a spell on humankind." Yeah... that's what I'm talking about! Oh, and it looks to be a little 18+ in nature :-)
So what else do we know... well it's going to be 8" tall, a limited edition of just 200 pieces, and carry a price point of $250! Now when is this going to drop... there is not set date but we may see the release of this very soon as Kidrobot does not tease something unless they are set to drop it! More info will follow very shortly as well as some teaser shots of this femme fatale... so stay tuned! Also, what are your thoughts on this figure... just from the initial sketches and teasers, are you going to grab it - if not why?
