MAQET has gone and done it... they have turned all of their original artists created sculpts from Frank Kozik, Yosiell Lorenzo, and Shin Tanaka into adorable plaid wearing Japanese schoolgirls, and starting this Friday, September 9th, 2011 these figures will be up for grabs... and how cute are these! "Bjork" will be $50, "Schoen" weighs in at $50, and "Hedwig" is going to retail for $65... now if you have enough space to accommodate all three schoolgirls (they really like to travel together), MAQET will discount the processing fee... and as a set you can snag em all for $130... a stellar deal!

Each schoolgirl will come with a special identification badge showing her photo and unique name. Oh and just because the folks at MAQET like to have some fun (it's obvious from the picture of myself and Schoen) with their releases, the girls will be posting pics to the MAQET blog, the Facebook fan page and Instagram.... so be sure to follow their adventures! Oh, and one last piece of news/advise... SIGN UP NOW FOR MAQET's MAILING LIST as there will be some special info on the release of these cool figures just for subscribers... just another reason to sign up on email lists these days... BENEFITS :-)

J★RYU's "Pariah" original sculptural for Munky King's "Stop It!" group art show!
For Cooper Berella's upcoming "Stop It!" group art show at Munky King this coming Saturday, artist Jesse Y. aka J★RYU took it upon himself to create a one-off original sculptural piece for this show entitled "Pariah". The theme of the show revolves around drawing awareness to bullying... and as you can see from the piece, this saddened angelic like tree figure is playing guardian to the cast out "haunt" at the base of the tree holding it's skeleton on display... and just like Jesse states "I hope that my piece conveys a bit of the theme appropriately"... and I would have to say that it does! This original sculpture stands 8" tall x 15" wide and was created using epoxy, polymer clay, metal and craft porcelain. For more pictures of this piece, be sure to visit Jesse's flickr site HERE and be sure to come out to this show if you are in the Los Angeles area as not only can you view this piece in person, but 70+ other fantastic entries as well!

Three New Customs from Donta Santistevan
These awesome pieces come to us courtesy of San Francisco based artist Donta Santistevan. Their textured feel and unique sculpting gives them lots of character and they are a little weird which is right up my alley! Up top is an anatomically correct SuperTasma ready to save any damsels in distress. Then there's Tummy-ache Bub and Headache Munny, both of whom are barely realizing they should have gone to the doctors a long time ago. Check out Donta's site for more customs and some pretty sick drawings too!

"Codename Babushka" a 5x blindbox project!!!
Like blind boxes? Good. Codename Babushka from FLATTIES is designed for the ultimate blindbox experience while keeping collectors in mind... and in all honestly it's a really cool idea! Based on the Russian Stacking Dolls platform, a ton have been sent out to a ton of artists, which include: A Little Stranger, alto, Creature Kebab, Fadeworks, Ian Stevenson, Matt JOnes, Mr. Mead, Phil Corbett, Scott Rayfield, Sichi, Sneaky Raccoon, RunDMB, TipToe Collective, TMH, and Triclops Studio! Each artist has a nest of 5 Russian dolls starting at 5.5″ and shrinking down to 1.5″ and will customize each one, then send them back... now this is where it get fun... they will all be mixed together and in effect when bought up will be a blindbox in a blindbox in a blindbox in a blindbox in a blindbox in a blindbox! Out of those numerous blindboxes you will receive art work from 5 different artists... how fun! For more info on this project visit the website HERE!

"Killbot" resin teaser from Fadeworks
Elliott Jeffrey aka Fadeworks shares with us today a very cryptic teaser of an upcoming figure release that he is producing himself... in resin! This silhouetted figure above titled "Killbot" is shaping up, and will be revealed shortly, but according to Elliott, this little guy is going to have 4 points of articulation and one of four different facemarks... oh and the best part... it's going to be cast in gold resin, SWEET! More info on this when we get it!
DrilOne's “Greetings from Hell” solo show 09/10/11
Alright... so we are just going to let you mind wander with this one of what you can expect from this amazing show as DrilOne has teamed up with the great folks at Dragatomi and they are proud to be hosting “Greetings from Hell” a solo exhibit featuring the fantastic works of DrilOne... and trust me, if you are in the area you don't want to miss this! Opening this Saturday, 09/10/11... some serious preparation went into this show, the planning of custom art pieces like 3” and 8” Dunnys, a 16” Custom Toyer Qee, to a custom antique inspired sign to even a vintage radio... but this was just one part, as DrilOne transformed the Dragatomi Gallery space into a faux corroded inner workings of what appears to be a large metal hull of sorts... immersing the viewers senses from every angle! Wanna see what's in store for you... sign up for the Dragatomi preview list HERE right now, you won't be sorry!

Toy Wars Custom Carded Action Figure by FATAL
This rad action figure was sent up by artist Kyle Renard aka FATAL, and I'm loving the very strange yet relevant mixture of Han Solo and Buddy from Toy Story. This is the first release in a series of six by FATAL and everything you see is 100% handmade without the use of any computers, and just by looking at the custom card you can see the craftsmanship that went into this piece. Hit up FATAL directly if you are interested in adding this awesome figure to your collection!
