*ON SITE* 'Shades of Ray' Color Ink Book's 3rd anniversary custom show @ WWA Gallery
Last night the WWA Galley in Culver City played host to the 'Shades of Ray' custom art show that had been in the works since early this year. Why was this event so special, well, because it celebrated the 3 year anniversary of Color Ink Book, the rad black and white art periodical that has featured the artists that participated in last nights show in at least one of their volumes! Upon arrival the, we noticed that the location of the Gallery was spectacular, right in the mix of things and the entire town was alive. The gallery itself is a HUGE sprawling space that had art everywhere and it invited the viewer to freely roam about soaking up all the goodness... and in fact there was a ton of goodness to be had because the pieces in this show were fantastic.
One thing that always floors me is the different artist interpretations, I mean we were all given a wooden crayon... and as you can see, pretty much everyone took that simple shape and made it their own... some decided to just paint on the wood, while others sculpted entire new creations... the ideas were limitless! On top of the 3D works, this show also contained 2D artwork from each artist as well, which by the way occupied an entire wall in the gallery for optimal views! Artist notables such as CJ Metzger, Jim Mahfood, Luke Chueh, Sket One, Mr. Shane Jessup, Ritzy Periwinkle, Sam Arshawsky, David Arshawsky, Dave Crosland, and many more were in attendance at the show, making it great for fans to meet those who created such extraordinary pieces. It was such a great time, and for those of you who were unable to make it out, you can hit up the online preview HERE and you can also stop by the gallery as this show will be running until August 31st, 2011. Hit the jump for a ton more photos.
