Luke Chueh signing at Munky King during SDCC
Luke Chueh had a few scheduled signings during the convention at Munky King's booth for the release of his reversed out "White in Black" figure. I was there promptly at the start time and a huge line had already formed with anxious fans ready for Luke to sign whatever he was handed... and that he did as Luke sketched on boxes, sketchbooks, figures, even OMI's... and had a smile on his face the entire time! The remaining stock of these figures should be up online HERE very soon so pick one up asap as this is the last colorway of this figure! Hit the jump for more photos.

Jim Mahfood's purple "Beat Bee" @ SDCC 2011
Jim Mahfood was on had at the October Toys/ToyBreak booth this year at SDCC to release his exclusive purple "Beat Bee", and yes this is a cool resin art statue displayed in Toy Break colors... in fact George from Toy Break sculpted this little guy! Jim ended up signing and sketching for fans that lined up and like we mentioned before Jim brought along 30 origional mini-drawings for the first 30 people that showed up! These little guys were only $10 a pop, and were limited to only 24 pieces! I am not quite sure if they sold out, but if they didn't look for them to show up online very soon! More pictures after the jump.

Ferg x Kathie Olivas x Brandt Peters signing at Rotofugi and reveal of new "Skelve Doctor" @ SDCC 2011
One of the really cool things about attending SDCC, or any convention for that matter, is that there are always sneak peeks at upcoming projects... case in point, during their signing session at Rotofugi's booth with Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, and Ferg was revealed a new Skelve... tentatively titled the "Skelve Doctor" (better picture to the left). This amazing creation has some serious balance, and looks amazing in person... and I can't wait to see what colors are thrown on the final piece. On top of that being on the table, all the artists had a sketch conveyor belt going adding onto each others previous sketch... seriously cool! I took a ton more photos of this signing, so do yourself a favor and click through to view them all!

Tara McPherson signing her Color Ink Book @ SDCC
Artists Tara McPherson was one busy woman at SDCC this year, not only was she manning her booth, but she had a multitude of signings all over the convention floor. We caught up with her at the Color Ink Book booth where she was signing and sketching for fans to promote her special SDCC exclusive limited edition cover... which looked great! In fact all the exclusive covers turned out great for the con... and I believe any leftovers will be up on their site HERE very soon so if your looking to snag one, keep those eyes peeled!

Jay222 x Slick custom LA Hands @ SDCC 2011
Artist Jay222 teamed up with Slick to release 5 custom monster, zombie, horror inspired LA Hands, and each one is different! Jay tells us that one is a play on "Sally" from Tim Burton's 'Nightmare Before Christmas', another set is inspired by a Mummy, another is Severed Hands, along with Fingerless Gloves, and a tribute to the 'Screaming Hand'. It was really cool to see these pieces in person as Jay left no stone unturned, every square inch was totally customized and Slick was all about them! It was really cool to see people walking around the con wearing the limited edition shirt as well... friggen rad! To see some more pictures of the pieces, hit the jump!

It sounds like they have some pretty epic things in the works, so hold tight party people, the rest of 2011 should be rad! more pictures after the break!

Chris Ryniak signing his Color Ink Book @ SDCC
Artist Chris Ryniak was on hand during SDCC this year to release a whole slew of figures as well as promote his exclusive SDCC exclusive Color Ink Book cover design... and look at that rad little "BubbleGut" gracing the cover! Chris always takes the best photos, if that's not already apparent (deer in the headlights). Wanna pick this up... keep your eyes on their online store HERE as I am sure leftovers will be posted up shortly! More pictures after the break!

Paul Kaiju @ SDCC 2011
Artist Paul Kaiju brought the 4900 isle to a standstill this year during his releases at SDCC... and I am not kidding when I say that, there were honestly 10 people deep by 20 people wide trying to snag up the latest creations by Paul! He ran his sales as a lottery and if you had a low number you could buy up whatever you wanted, and then onto the next person it went. Paul had a ton of hand-made resin figures like his "King Jinx", his "Mockbat" even special resin masks that fit on his "Salamander Joe" figure... he even had a ton of vinyl pieces like his "Boss Carrion", his "Salamander Joe" and the newly converted "Seagool"... some amazing stuff from Paul, which leads me to wonder what this mastermind has up his sleeve next! More pics after the jump!

Buff Monster / Tristan Eaton / Travis Louie signing at Hi Fruscose during SDCC 2011
Buff Monster was part of the elite group at SDCC to have one of his prints put on a wood block and released via the Hi Fructose booth, and along with him was Tristan Eaton sketching and signing in 3D for his really cool "3D Art Book"... oh and Travis Louie decided to pop in and join the fun :-) It was really cool to see all 3 artists interact and go to town on fans sketchbooks, all have such unique styles, so it was rad to watch. The wood black print, and 3D book are both musts... so if there are any available to buy, you should snag one! Hit the jump for more photos.

Silent Stage/ Army of Snipers/ Angry Woebots @ SDCC 2011

Yup, that title pretty much sums up only part of the booth, seeing as Dez Einswell and Slick shared it with them as well, but Silent Stage/ Army of Snipers/ Angry Woebots all had a huge presence this year at SDCC with some really cool exclusives. They had their "Bronze" and "Stealth" Panda King's, Dogtags, prints, stickers, new shirts and to top it off the SDCC debut of J★RYU's functional art piece titled "Rucky Bam Boo". They hosted many signings every day and had a constant flow of people checking out their rad wares! Hit the jump for more pictures!

kaNO's "Dragon King" on display @ SDCC
I was fortunate enough to make my way down to Kuso Vinyl's booth right in time to snag kaNO as he was checking out his upcoming "Dragon King" figure. It was really great to see in person, and it is crazy how well kaNO's illustrative style shines through this 8" tall figure! Above is a peek at the first colorway... but rumor has there are more on the way, so look for these to drop the 3rd or 4th quarter in 2011.

Scott Tolleson's "Uncle Argh" signing @ SDCC
Well we just touched on Toy2R... now it's time to talk about one of their artists that was on hand for a signing... Mr. Scott Tolleson! Fugitive Toys opened their booth to Scott where they released his "Uncle Argh" Mini-Qee and along with Scott, Toy2R's very own Kevin Winnik came out for the reception! Scott doodled on a ton of blank Android figures while Kevin showed off some top secret (not anymore) stuff that is going to be releasing in the near future through his company... and trust me folks you have alot to be really excited about! More pics after the break!

Monster Worship @ SDCC 2011
Yeah!!!!!! This was one crazy release as Chad from Monster Worship unleashed the sofubi demons in a way that clogged up the entire isle during SDCC. This all happened at the 'Global Figure Symposium All-Stars' booth #4937, where they released the very coveted SDCC Real Fighting Greasebat... in a super clear version that includes a full color transparent "guts" insert. They also dropped Johnny Ryan's Cannibal Fu*kface figure... which was a crowd favorite, shoot, even Frank Kozik waited in line for this beast! We also saw the release of the new "Black Mass" Altar Beast figure, a new "Kusogon" figure from Monster Worship & beaK, and some special "Digglers" from Splurrt! All in all it was a great showing, and for those leftover pieces (not very many) they will be posted up today at 3pm HERE in the Monster Worship shop... don't sleep! Freak Store's "I Love Dunny 1.0" blind box series
For the first time Venezuelan art toy store Freak Store is set to launch "I Love Dunny 1.0", a blind-box custom series that includes some pretty fantastic designs by 7 Venezuelan artist! These artists were selected to customize 19 3" Dunnys which in turn will be sold at Freak Store in a blind box format. The artist line up includes: Burundanga Design, Gabriel Carpio, Spawer, M-Lon, Murkasec, Gerard MDS and Charles Rodriguez... many unknown artists to me, but nevertheless some top notch work, and I especially love that "Rock" hand Dunny design by Charles Rodriguez... stellar work and what a great concept! You gotta check out more pictures after the jump and be sure to check out their site HERE for up to date info on the release!

Joe Ledbetter's 'Wood Block' print release at Hi-Fructose booth during SDCC 2011
Joe Ledbetter came out to SDCC last Friday to sign and release his exclusive wood print through the folks over at Hi Fructose... and needless to say the response was overwhelming. Joe signed every single one of these as well as doodled on the backs... he even took the time to chat with his fans and sketch on a few blank Munny's as well! As you can see in the above photo, Hi Fructose did a stellar job on these prints, the quality is truly stunning so if you can get your hands on one, do it! Hit the jump for more photos.

Skinner's 12" Lurker prototype @ SDCC 2011
Speaking of Skinner, we were able to track down Mad Joe and his father David Arshawsky right when they told us that they had dropped off the new 12" Lurker figure over at the Color Ink Book booth, so we high-tailed it over there and ran into some serious greatness! This amazing resin prototype blew all the minds of everyone who laid eyes upon it... the new 'stalking' or 'lurking' pose fits this beast soooo great!!!
The piece comes with some epic accessories like the wiggle sword, pouch, and babies... so great... but what is that, a head, wait, a severed head... um that's SKINNER's head!!! Yup, unbenounced to Skinner, David sculpted a severed head that has the likeness of Skinner which I hope they include with the full set! The guys over at Color ink Book are ready to take the next step with this figure as they plan on producing it in vinyl... so stay tuned for more details, and yes it is as epic as it looks in the pictures as it does in person!

On display at DKE's booth during SDCC 2011 - Scribe's 'Beaver' 8" BIC Buddy
Here we go with yet another new prototype figure spotted over at DKE's booth during SDCC, and this time fan favorite Scribe is getting his very own production 8" BIC Buddy! This will mark what I think will be the 3rd production 8"... where the first 2 were color variations of Marka27's HalfDead Buddy. Scribe applied his very familiar "Beaver" design to this platform and wow does it look clean, I especially like the plank of wood accessory... but it seems like it may give out some unwanted splinters :-) No word on when this is going to release, so we can just feast on the above images until we get more info! Skinner, Correia, Wayshak booth @ SDCC
Along with a few other booths that were far off the beaten path, artists Skinner, Dave Correia and Jon Wayshak all shared a booth way at the far end of the convention! They had on display all of their wares from sketched to prints, figures to t-shirts... there was something for everyone... everyone with good constitution that is because these guys are kings of some seriously radical art! Their three styles really complimented one another, and just the brief amount of time I spent there it was awesome to chat it up with them all... great guys! Kuso Vinyl's booth @ SDCC 2011
Kuso Vinyl had a great showing at SDCC this year with a ton of exclusives and artists signings that were spread throughout each and every day, but unfortunately their location was super far away from the rest of the designer toys so I was only able to make it down there a few times during the con. there was a mix of new and old, production and customs at their booth along with some never before seen prototypes and subscription only runs of Jesse Hernandez's resin see-thru "Mictlan"... beautiful, the all gray version of MyTummyToys "Jouwe", Mini-Spiki's from Rotobox, Nakanari and Tracy Tubera, TobyHK's "FULUTO's" along with some really nice leaser etched jewelry from artists Dave Quiles. For many more pictures from around their booth be sure to hit the jump!

Dragatomi's booth @ SDCC 2011
So did you go to SDCC this year and visit the folks over at Dragatomi... well if you did then you had the same impression that we all had, WOW! They not only hosted a ton of signings from artists, but had one of the best (if not the best) collection of customs up for grabs at the con including pieces from Circus Posterous, Hey Cavey, Blamo Toys, Skinner, N.C. Winters, Plaseebo, J*Ryu, Breant Nolasco, Chauskoskis, Betso, Grimsheep, DrilOne, SouthernDrawl, Wheelbarrow, Squink, Jeremiah Ketner, KingQuan, Leecifer, Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Jay222, 64Colors, Travis Lampe, Motorbot, Chuckboy, Rsin, Ardabus Rubber, Mikie Graham, Steve Talkowski and Bigfoot...yeah crazy right?!?!?! Oh, and the best part is, most of the customs found new homes! That list of artists above is pretty massive and if you wanna see pictures of all the pieces submitted hit the jump for a whole slew of rad photos!
Veggiesomething signing @ SDCC 2011
Speaking of Rotofugi, last Friday they hosted the one and only James Liu aka Veggiesomething at their booth for a special signing and release of his "Qing Solider" and "Qing Pirate". This was the very first time I had the opportunity to meet James in person and he is as cheerful as he looks in the photo above. All of his designs are super clean and I can;t wait to see what he has in store for future releases. More pictures after the jump!

Rotofugi's booth @ SDCC 2011
Voted best online toy store and best toy store during the recent Designer Toy Awards, Rotofugi was on hand once again at SDCC to not only claim those two amazing awards, but they also had some amazing releases and signings! Their booth was jam packed full of goodness like: Smell-Me Marshalls and "Gumdrop" the dog by 64Colors, Mini Pocket Pork dumpling vinyl DIY blanks from Shawnimal, "Tinder Toys" from Jeremy Tinder, Joey Potts' SOLEM "Green Apple" figure, Chris Ryniak's "Electric Watermelon" Muscamoot and "Baby Mossback" Snybora, tons of customs from Mark Nagata, Troubleboys No. 88 [fly] by Brandt peters and Ferg plus tons of other goodies... see I was not lying when I said it was jam packed. Along with Kirby and Whitney was Joe from Squibbles Ink who rocked some socks with his amazing paint application skills. Rotofugi had a HUGE presence at SDCC, and all their hard work obviously payed off with their two rad awards. Congrats guys, once again, and I look forward to next year! Despite the impending 'Con-Sars' that always latches onto all who attend SDCC (and it appears got ahold of Frank), Frank Kozik was on hand once again this year to release all kinds of goodies to the masses, and with his every so helpful wife Sharon by his side they made it through another year! Frank released his "King of Rock" Labbit, the first colorway of his "Mekkabanana", we saw "Heathrow" the Hedgehog from Maqet, he had on display his Ronald Reagan aka "Gipper" bust as well as all the normal wares like key chains, mongers, labbits, Army Men, and many other great items. It's always nice to chat with Frank as he has some great incite into the designer toy scene, and I do look forward to our next encounter... until then, get well! Hit the jump for more photos!

Munky King's "Black Ball" party & The Designer Toy Awards recap @ SDCC 2011
Picture of the above trophy courtesy of NotCot & Andrew Bell
So last Thursday night everyone was very eagerly anticipating the Munky King party that is thrown every year at Bar Basic... it's such a great time and a super opportunity to mingle with everyone in the industry. This year though, there was an added bonus attached to the night of festivities... the inaugural year of Clutter Magazine's 'Designer Toy Awards' which payed tribute to many artists, companies, stores, blogs, designers in our industry for excellence, creativity and innovation... and oh how beautiful the trophy was that Pete Fowler designed and Julie B. from Pretty in Plastic produced! To top off the night artists Jesse Hernandez, Angry Woebots and Yoskay Yamamoto hand painted a giant 4" tall fiberglass "Possessed" figure originally designed by Luke Chueh in front of everyone attending. All in all it was a great night and the awards went very well for being the first year running... admittedly there are some kinks that need to be worked out for next year, my hat is off to all of those involved that made this happen... great job! Hit the jump for more pictures as well a a full list of the winners from the nights award ceremony!
