Zerofriends x Jay222 "Tupac Cat" resin figures for SDCC 2011... are seriously gangster!

As the story goes "Moments before Tupac Shakur's death, he called upon an ancient Voodoo spell to transfer his soul into a cat. For 15 years following his death, this cat was trapped in the pound. Now he has finally been released and is back in the hood." Pretty EPIC right... well artist Jay222 thought so as well so he teamed up with Alex Pardee and the Zerofriends crew to really bring this cat to life... in the form of some rad resin figures!

These frisky felines measure over 5" tall, and have a really great look about them... not only did Jay222 do a good job capturing Alex's Tupac Cat in 3D form, but you can still see bits and pieces of Jay's work throughout the sculpt as it's gritty and raw just like all his monstrous creations from his previous body of work! Oh, and Jay created 75 of these for SDCC 2011... so you can go home with one of your own, all of which are completely different... there is a mixture of mostly hand painted, clears, and custom sculpted versions, no 2 are alike! They will be up for grabs at the Zerofriends booth #5502 where 15 will be released each day, including preview night, for just $70 a pop! I really do enjoy collaborations, such as this one... I mean how can you go wrong with a cat that has the soul of Tupac?!?!?!

MONSTER Invitational @ FOE Friday 7/8

MONSTER Invitational is a group show full of super talented Monster Makers that opens on Friday July 8th @ FOE Gallery in Western Massachusetts. "The idea of monsters is as old as civilization and what society defines as monstrous changes and morphs through time and culture. Depending on when and where you grew up, it’s likely some version of monster, urban myth or story shaped your fears and nightmares. No one escapes this rite of passage. Come out to see how 20 different artists from westernmass to Japan interpret their own unique fears, repulsions and pleasures. It may sound scary, but monsters are fun too, and fears confronted (or exercised) are fears conquered."
Here is a preview of what this show has in store, courtesy of Bob Conge aka Plaseebo. This piece was done in his "Night Gamer Kaiju" style with a little mashup action. Awesome stuff!

"Sketchbothood" custom by JC Rivera

JC Rivera continues on his custom slaying spree, and this go around he tackled Steve Talkowski's Sketchbot platform... in a mighty fine way! JC states that he has been wanting to do a custom with the Sketchbot since last year, and he finally came across a DIY sketchbot and here is the result. Titled "Sketchbothood" JC says this is an homage to "live easy and daydream all you want", and continues to say "Sketchbothood is a place where silliness and fun happens all day all the time. Sketchbothood is filled with kindhearted and welcoming people. Come visit Sketchbothood and you will stay." Sketchbothood features a really cool smokey mascot along with a really cool cityscape with a really cool JC Rivera face... a really cool way to interpret this platform. This is going to be up in his store HERE this Friday, July 8th at 11am CST... so set your alarm, and get ready!

Zombiemonkie mascot from Zombiemonkie...

We posted up a teaser of the prototype sculpt of Artist Mikie Graham's aka Zombiemonkie mascot figure HERE a while back, and now Mikie has revealed the entire figure... and I gotta say it turned out fantastic. I initially had no idea it was going to be a custom as Mikie customized a Muttpop Red Demon into his cartoon alter ego the "Zombiemonkie"... and if you have ever seen Mikie in person, that outfit his character is wearing is nearly identical to the duds Mikie wears in his everyday life. Although this custom is not for sale, you will be able to view him (along with dozens of other toy creations) on Mikie's new website Zombiemonkie.com that will be opening the week of SDCC. As always Mikie is available for commissioned toy work of all sorts - including your own alter ego! If you're interested please contact him through his twitter account: @zombiemonkie... turned out great man!

The Beast Brothers "Kid Olaf" Kidrobot Mascot #20 spotted at Taipei Toy Festival

Posted up via the Beast Brothers twitter stream today was the very first look at they Kidrobot mascot figure dubbed "Kid Olaf"... which happens to be the 20th in the ever growing series of KR figures. This photo was once again spotted over at J.ME, and along with the above picture you can see the variant version on the left, which changes out the color scheme a bit... giving him a more orangish beard along with a change in beverage choice :-) This is on display at Taipei Toy Festival where I am not sure if they are up for grabs or not... what I do know is that this will debut in the states at SDCC 2011 where on Thursday, July 21st from 1-3pm there will be a signing with The Beast Brothers, and you can get yer grubby hands on this piece!

Luke Chueh's releases for SDCC 2011

Artist Luke Chueh has once again teamed up with Munky King to reign supreme over SDCC 2011, and this year he is not only releasing one figure but two! First up is the highly anticipated, third and final colorway of his Black In White series of toys. First we saw the "Black in White" at SDCC 2010, then the "Black in White (and red all over)" during the Munky King release late last year, and now the reversed out "White in Black" version is set to make your collection complete! This is going to be a limited edition of 750 pieces, and comes with extra fur head that you can swap out with the bare one and a really sharp knife! Oh and if you can;t make it out, no worries as select retailers will also have a crack at this figure as well as a signing party at Munky King after the con! No word on price just yet, but I am guessing at such a large run number you can expect this to be around the $100 mark!

Also announced as Luke's second release at the Munky King booth #4539, is a very special SDCC exclusive PVC OMI mask. This particular design has a very tribal look and feel to it, unlike anything I have seen from Luke, and features a really cool gold and red color scheme. This piece measures 3.5" tall and comes with an acrylic frame, base, and peg... no word on a run number or price yet, but I assume it will be pretty limited!

Coolrain's latest releases and exhibition

Artist Coolrain has a new exhibition at the Wyln Gallery going on now. For those unfamiliar with Coolrain, his work in 1:6 figures has made him one of Korea's top toy artists, and for a area teeming with talent in the 1:6 field with artists such as Rainman, Bhead, many artists from Hot toys, that's really saying something. Coolrain's latest exhibition shows off some of his past works as well as some great new pieces including a few wooden styled figures of his Pithecuse toys. The wooden finish sets this piece off nicely the figure itself stands roughly 20 in. tall (though it appears there are several versions in various sizes) no word on pricing. There's more pictures of the gallery opening in the slideshow. For more info on figures please check out the wyln gallery (note the Gallery's in Korea so you may need to use a translator program).

Coolrain has recently been collaborating with Mindstlye and word is his new 18 in. NBA figures will be on display at SDCC, so keep an eye out for those. One thing I love about Coolrains style and his work (with exception to colabs like mindstyle) is that it's all hand done by him, from design to actually casting and creating the pieces, Coolrain does each step of the process at his studio making his figures truly individual little pieces of art. I only hope one day to see some of his personal work with my own two eyes.

New Oyaloper teaser pics up from 3A

Photobucket
Back in March 3A sold the first of their TK classics line, Wasabi of the "7 Bones" and during that sale Ashley Wood threw out a nice little surprise drop of a new Oyaloper. Titled Interloper Oya or "Oyaloper" this new figure would be a interloper figure (interlopers are android units built to look like TK's and sent to infiltrate the TK's by the Mortis, their enemies)but in the form of a Oyabun (Oyabun are the leaders of the TK's they are clones as well but they are not autistic, yet they have all the abilities that are associated with the standard TK along with the abilities like transportation)

The trick at the time for those buying was that the sale was for a figure sight unseen. At the time based on the artwork Ash used for the sale, many speculated that the Oyaloper would have a Baka styled head. Ashley did mention that Oyaloper would have long pants rather than the traditional shorts worn by most TK's. And so it's great to finally see the pictures of the Oyaloper up on the 3A production blog now. Looking at the picture it appears that Oyaloper has the same hair used for Heavy TK Nasu while using the bandage style covering over the face as they did for Baka. Other items to note are the tattoo's on the arms (not sure how I feel on those yet) as well as the great chuck's on his feet, which seem to work really well with the white pants and overall monotone set up for this figure. (Oyaloper has the traditional jacket worn by Oyabun just not shown here in the photo) One things for sure this is sure to be a instant classic. I for one hope this guy makes it to the APTK 1:12 line up. More pictures up at the 3A production blog.

"Deep-Sea Dracula" by Keithing for SDCC 2011

Last week we post up HERE the first look at Keithing's latest figure dubbed "The Vampire Squid" and today we are pleased to show off the first colorway of hopefully many. Titled "Deep-Sea Dracula" this rad looking figure is cast in clear resin and stands 5.5" tall... and I am absolutely in love with this color scheme, the translucent red webbing contrasting on the matte black body is awesome! Look for this to debut at SDCC 2011 via ToyQube's booth #4934. More info such as release date, time, and cost will be released next week... can't wait to see this in person!
