"Don't Get Caught" The solo show of Charlie Owens

I love the work of Charlie Owens, ever since the first post covering him HERE back in 2008 I have been in constant amazement of his gritty style and Art Whino is please to be playing host to this fantastic artist as they open "Don't Get Caught"! This show, according to Charlie, is a throwback to those youthful days when he was first introduced to the world of skateboarding and the visual art that went along with it.

To be honest, I have seen quite a bit of progression in his style since we first covered Charlie, and these new images are truly striking... not only in size but in content as well! The show will feature several very large scale installation pieces layered with texture resembling weathered art found on outdoor canvases and a variety of smaller works from multiple techniques, all adorned with his iconic and highly recognizable female forms... love this stuff to pieces!!!! The opening is this Saturday, May 14th, from 8pm – Midnight and the show will sty up until June 14th... go out and see it in person... better yet, pull the trigger and buy some pieces!

According to Tim this was a little present for his buddy Manny (KR-forum name mANNEe) and his girlfriend as she loves popcorn... and who wouldn't love popcorn after seeing this. It's a super creative spin on a few Dunny designs wrapped up into one sweet package... stellar job man!

"Tiffany Blue" Soopa Maria one-off... is stunning

Recently completed as a private commission, and inspired by the classic movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, this Soopa Maria one-off by Erick Scarecrow has found a new home in the Hawaiian islands, and wow does this colorway complement the already elegant sculpt. Painted with that rich "sky Tiffany's" blue, bounced off with a nice neutral punch of black and accented with a clam pearly silver. The collector of this beauty has got to be one happy dude. Huge thanks to HaynMade for the pics and info for this post!

Jason Siu "SPK 2" mini blind-box series from Kidrobot

Just announced over at Kidrobot is a new blind-box series that features the designs from Hong Kong toy designer Jason Siu. Known primarily for his customization of 1:6 style figures, and other larger versions of this speaker character, Kidrobot has shrunk these down and is set to release the series dubbed "SPK 2" which is a 3" mini-series. There are going to be 12 colorful styles/designs of his speaker family which include all kinds of shapes and sizes, colors and finishes... it's really cool to see these being made and in my opinion kinda a breath of fresh air from the normal humanoid type figure we see in most blind boxed series'. These are going to release next Thursday, May 19th for $7.95 per blind box. I would love to know your thoughts on these.

Jay222 sculpts Skinner & Hal "The Wizard"

One of the most altruistic artists I know is Jay222, he is constantly creating art not just to sell, but he does it out of the kindness of his heart... case in point... he created these hand-made figures for artist Skinner, and Skinner's right hand man Hal "The Wizard"... and I gotta say these figures are too cool and represent these guys very well. I love how Jay sculpted the lip rings into Hal's figure as well as the open denim vest of Skinner where he is letting his birds nest fly! What a great job, and an even greater gift... good stuff Jay! The one thing about living in different time zones is when I wake up in the morning, most everybody in the UK an even further East have the majority of their day done... and I have a ton of stuff populate my inbox while I am sleeping, and today for some reason I got bombarded with goodies from the UK, and thanks to Cris Rose we have more non-toy/toy related news to share with you. This is a range of laser cut acrylic mirrors in the shape of Cris' Sprog characters, with the first series being an open run of 6 detailed designs. they measure between 3.5" and 4" in size, and each Mirrorbot comes bagged/headered. Even though pricing is still being worked out, Cris believes they will retail for around $12 each or $30 for a pack of 3 at crisrose.bigcartel.com... stay tuned for exact dates, times, and prices! It's really fun to see designers branching out and expanding their line of collectibles, making it great for collectors of said artist, and also introducing others to a brand new market.
