TaskOne's customs for "Contemporary Figurative Modifications" @ TAG 4/02/2011

When it rains it pours... and today is a great example of it pouring really good as we keep getting photos in for the Toy Art Gallery 6-man group show titled "Contemporary Figurative Modifications"... where we saw Leecifer and Brent Nolasco's submissions and now we are getting a peek at a few of the submissions from TaskOne, and HOLY SMOKES that is one sweet Qee! What has been in the works for quite some time now ( and rightfully so) is the massive 20" cust Qee Task is calling his "Qee-thedral"! This not only looks epic from the outside but rumor has it that it is split in half, hinged, and reveal an entire inside to the "Qee-thedral"... AWESOME! Along with that piece he also did a bunch of collaborations with fellow artists as he created the above dioramas with NERVISWR3K, Leecifer, and Jay222... I can't wait to see all this in person!!!! So that's 3 of the 6 artists participating that we have coverd so far and boy does this show look promising... are you tempted to come out now... don't miss this show!

Brent Nolasco's customs for "Contemporary Figurative Modifications" @ TAG 4/02/2011

And the photos keep rollin in... as we posted up earlier the awesome works from Leecifer for the Toy Art Gallery 6-man group show titled "Contemporary Figurative Modifications" we are now getting a look at a few of the customs that New York artist Brent Nolasco has contributed to this show... and wow are they looking good! It's been quite some time since we have seen Brent do any customs as he took some time off from them, but the above picture shows a new fresh direction, and I am loving it. He mashed up some ThreeA figures along with Soto's "The Seeker", and it appears to be Plaseebo's "Skulloctopus", to make some ghastly monstermechbots (yup I made up a new word)! Remember that these figures are just the tip of the iceberg and the show is also featuring works from Bob Conge of Plaseebo, Jim Koch, TaskOne, Leecifer and NERVISWR3K... don't miss this show!

There is always time for "Desayuno"...

I am a stong believer that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, in fact if I had my way... eggs/cereal/pancakes/bacon would be for every meal... and obviously artist Adam Greeley fels the same way as he created a sweet custom 8" Munny he titled "Desayuno" which translated from Spanish means breakfast. This piece was painted up by Adam with acrylics, and has all the breakfast good on it like eggs, bacon, sausage links, avocado all while keeping it slick with a Luchador theme!!!! He even had some help by fellow co-worker James English, who designed and made those resin sausage nunchucks with hot sauce bottle handles...EPIC! This rad piece is going to be up for grabs tomorrow, Friday April 1st, via his online store HERE for just $200. So why not start your day off right with a healthy dose of vinyl for breakfast :-)

Munny bootleged by Brazilian gay pride parade?!?!

You read it right... brought to my attention by Brazil native and custom artist Sergio Mancini is a pretty strong case of counterfeiting/bootlegging/ripping-off whatever you wanna call it... it's pretty frowned upon... especially when you do it to one of the, if not the most recognizable, Do-It-Yourself vinyl figures on the market, Kidrobot's Munny figure! This all started with a post over on Banana Suicidia, a Brazilian toy site, where upon further investigation revealed that not only is this figure being bootleged, but it's for a HUGE country wide event... the 15th Annual Gay Pride Parade in Sao Paulo, and they created this "Mascot" to represent the event. From news site G1 they state "This year's edition will feature a mascot, an all-white doll, which will be accompanied by seven colored felt pens. Thus, those who purchase a pet can paint it the way he sees fit, according to the organization."... crazy right? I wonder if Kidrobot is going to take legal action against them because it's a pretty blatant rip-off... I mean, remember what they did to Taco Bell's "BellHedz" figures, and in my opinion, this is even more of an extreme case. Time will tell, but in the mean time sound off on this issue... what are all your thoughts?
