3A JDF Armstrong sale over - Nearly 30K raised
3A held their Japan Fundraiser today and quickly sold out of their JDF WWRp Armstrong, raising nearly 30K in the process and creating a wave of emo for those who missed out. Ashley posted on the production blog : "3A to donate nealry 30k usd to a Japan charity, soon as we know which one and other details we shall share with you guys ! And of course thanks to everyone that supported the sale !" Oh, and what's a 3A sale without a little sneak preview of things to come so Ash tossed out a teaser image of the new "NightVision MK2 Square" no word yet on specifics but it's always great to get a new teaser pic... and look at that beast stand up... gotta be twice the height of a normal square!
Also it should be noted that FI vol. 3 is up now at Bambaland, priced at $45, this latest issue is 96 pages full color, 12″x12″ in hardcover. Price includes worldwide shipping. For more info check out the 3A production blog.

Ron English's "McSupersized" in porcelain
A week ago we posted up an image of a new project that French porcelain art company K.olin tribu announced as they teamed up with pop-surrealist artist Ron English to turn his classic "McSupersized" figure into porcelain... and they did just that! Releasing this Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 12:00 Noon PDT via their online site HERE is this really cool figure which stands over 8.5" tall, comes with a silver chain locket with a porcelain decoration plate around the neck. Limited to only 150pieces, this true art piece is set to retail for around $565... and if your a Ron English fan you are used to paying prices this high... not for the fair weather collector though, that's for sure! So I am curious all of your thoughts on this... is the price and quality of this figure pushing art toys in the right direction, or is it pushing it out of collectors hands?

JUMPING BRAIN x JAPAN
This is yet another case where an artist pushes his altruistic values forward to help those in need as Emilio Garcia is set to release a special 3" version of his Jumping Brain figure dubbed the "Hinomaru" which is the name for the red dot on their flag that represents the Rising Sun! These are limited to only 10 pieces and will go on sale via the Jumping Brain online store HERE on March 30th where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Japan earthquake and tsunami relief! The exterior of this figure is very plain, but what is important is the inside where the single red dot represents an entire country in distress. What a cool figure, and an even cooler cause... don't sleep on this folks, at only 10 pieces these will sell out!

South Park "15th Anniversary Exhibition" with a sneak peek at a Kidrobot mini-figure line!
Following a series of tweets from kaNO this morning I became privy to an art show that has kinda flown under the radar... at least to me. It appears that this year is "South Park's" 15th anniversary celebration and Comedy Central has teamed up with Ron English, to curate a show allowing those artists invited to interpret South Park, and the characters in it! This actually opens TONIGHT, Monday, March 28 at Opera Gallery New York! It appears that they had a press opening a few nights ago and thanks to the folks over at Laughing Squid and Arrested Motion we have all the pictures you see above and below.
Ron English hand-picked 14 artists including: Travis Louie, Colin Christian, Sas Christian, Beau Stanton, Kid Zoom, Dave White, KaNo, Kathie Olivas, Clark Fox, Greg Craola Simkins, Mark Dean Veca, Lindsey Way, Naoto Hattori and Tristan Eaton. One of the really cool features of this exhibit is the addition of a mini-figure line which is being produced by Kidrobot... and as you can see, the initial figures look pretty great, and I can only imagine what is in store for this series as in one of the photos you can see Stan's dad sitting on his balls... GROSS! This exhibition will be on display at Opera Gallery New York through April 10.

Nebulon5 x Dilated Peoples "Expanding Man" figure
San Diego based artist Mike P. aka Nebulon5 recently had the opportunity to work an artist who he has admired for for many years, and it's not traditional artist you are thinking of... he collaborated with none other than Rakaa of legendary hip hop crew Dilated Peoples on a project that Rakaa has been wanting to do for many years now. Based of the "mascot" of the Dilated Peoples crew, Mike took Rakaa's lead and created a mini-version of the "Expanding Man" character (listen to the track HERE) that is seen on the majority of many Dilated Peoples albums, and on most of their merchandise. Mike said that this is a dream come true as he has looked to Dilated Peoples music to draw inspiration from, and to create something for them is an opportunity that does not happen very often. Mike sculpted the "Expanding Man" then cast him in resin with a variety of different flavors including a glow in the dark version... the ones you see above are still rough prototypes but you can look forward to seeing these being released in small limited runs in the very near future.
